I just took my driving test, and I failed because of the school zone I just followed that indicated the 25-speed limit and then I failed I would suggest that if you're in the school zone you should go 35 mph and don't lower your speed as long the blink appears as they say

I would NOT follow this advice, but would welcome comments from others. Nevada school zone speed restrictions are typically 15 or 25 MPH - when in effect. If not in effect then normal speed limits are in effect. So if you are in a 35 MPH zone, and school zone speed restrictions are not in effect, then you should drive at normal speeds. **** Excerpt Nevada Drivers Handbook **** *School Areas* Traffic controls in school zones may include a combination of signs, signals, markings, and school crossing guards. Violating the direction of a school crossing guard is a misdemeanor in Nevada. If a crossing guard is present in a school zone crosswalk, motorists must wait until the guard is completely out of the crosswalk before proceeding. In school zones, the speed limit is either 15 or 25 mph. These speed limits are in effect on school days from a half hour before school begins to a half hour after school ends, unless otherwise posted. Some areas may use flashing yellow lights to tell drivers when the speed limit is in effect. These lights may be turned off during hours students are actually in classes. If so, the speed limit then reverts to that posted for nonschool hours. Signs and signals clearly show these speed limits and either designate the hours or state that the speed limit is in effect when children are present. dmv.nv.gov/pdfforms/dlbook.pdf

The specific rule would be "posted speeds" unless signs indicating otherwise (Construction Zone Speed Limit XX"). That being said, regardless of speed limits, drivers always need to drive appropriately for the conditions and some construction areas would warrant slowing down. Simply use your judgement as to what's safe.

You have the option, but NOT the obligation, to make a right hand turn on a red light . We suggest that during your exam, you only make a right on a red if you are very comfortable that you have adequate room to turn into traffic and get up to speed. If you do make a right turn, always scan for pedestrians as you may miss them while you are looking for other cars. Hitting a pedestrian during a driving exam is, well, just very very bad.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Entering or exiting residential areas on to main roads can be tricky as you note - you may drive a ways before seeing what the speed limit is. Best idea is to know the roads around the DMV and and as a general rule of thumb - residential 25 MPH and main roads 35 MPH.

No, they do not test you on backing into a spot. However when you start the test, you typically will need to be able to back OUT of the spot where you left the car. Good Luck.

Hi, if you cruise through the DMV parking lot you will see the areas where you park after returning from the test. Typically you simply drive straight into the spot. When you mention parking to the left or right - that sounds like parallel parking which is no longer part of the test in Nevada. Good luck.

Depends how old you are, if your under 18 I think you gotta complete certain hours and do drivers Ed and pass it in order to get your license. You need to show proof of your hours too there’s a certain app for it to track it. Do more info on it

When making a left hand turn onto a street with a center lane, you can enter the center lane but must merge into the regular lane within 50 feet. When using a center lane to turn right (such as when you are turning back into the DMV), you must first enter the center lane (always check for blind spots even here). Note that you can only drive in the center lane for 200 feet when turning right so don't enter too early. Easy peasy.

This should be simple but it depends on the type of sign. 1. If it simply says "when children present" treat it as if you see children and slow down to the restricted speed limit (usually 15 mph). 2. If there are flashing signals for the school zone, you can proceed at normal speeds if the signs are NOT flashing. There is more information here but frankly, they make it hard to understand. nevada.public.law/statutes/nrs_484b.363. If the examiner challenges you as to why you slowed down if there was no one around simply respond "I wanted to be in compliance with NRS 484B.363" 😀

No parallel parking anymore, then discontinued that several years ago. The only parking should be when you return to the DMV which is just nose in parking. Always proceed slowing in DMV lots - many pedestrians and cars. Good luck.

Por otro lado tengo una consulta más , si estoy en una línea de paré o para girar a la derecha debo quedarme primeramente detrás de la línea de cruce peatonal o debo pasar sobre ella porque según mi criterio debería frenar antes de las franjas y si no hay peatones realizar el leve giro a la derecha. No parallel parking anymore but you may need to do a park and reverse. They dropped parallel parking over 5 years ago. You will need to demonstrate proper parking when you return to the DMV but that will be simply driving into a parking slot. Good luck!!!!!

Drive as if the examiner is your friend, if you over think it, it will most likely end bad. That’s the reason I failed the first time.

Examiners can always modify routes, but the reality is they need to check off number of specific skills (i.e. unprotected left turns, lane change, etc.) so they tend to stick to the same courses. Also how much over and under can you go before it’s an automatic fail? As well as what are the main automatic fails they are looking for?

Hi, sorry to hear that but hopefully if you spend some more time behind the wheel you will be fine next time. You may want to consider spending more time with a driving instructor and sharing with them your prior experiences and score sheets. In general, you should NOT exceed the speed limit, and try and stay within 5 MPH of the limit. If you go below 10 MPH of the limit you may lose points (too slow). There is a long list of items that they can fail you on. Here is a pretty comprehensive list from nevada drive academy. -Consistently speeding -Cutting off another driver ​-Failure to stop for a school bus with its arm out or red lights flashing. -Weaving or straddling the lines -Stopping at a green light for no apparent reason -Stopping on the RR tracks ​-Driving in the bike lane -Not changing lanes if there is a bike in the lane next to you ​-Backing over a curb -Hitting a curb driving or turning a corner ​-Failure to yield at a stops sign -Not yielding to cars making U-Turns. -Not yielding to pedestrians. -Poor attitude -Driving with one hand ​-Crossing the stop line or not coming to a complete stop -​Failure to react to a hazardous condition -​Taking the wrong lane when turning -​Failure to follow the examiner's instructions -Too much hesitation or overall lack of confidence -If the examiner has to tell you to "stop!" or has to grab the steering wheel…

Yes, simply follow what the directions are on the school zone signs. If they have speed restriction "When Children Present", but there are no children or pedestrian, then you can drive at the normal speed (ie 35 MPH). Note that school zones are in effect during the summer months as well - some schools remain open. Good luck and please subscribe.

What I recommend is to say in your head "full and complete stop" (which is more like 1.5 to 2 seconds) after the car comes to a stop. 3 seconds is actually a little long - I find this method reinforces the action so you don't do a rolling stop. And don't forget to check left and right - sometimes best to exaggerate by moving your head so the examiner knows that you are scanning. Don't just use your eyes. @@burcudemir6731 No, other than when you have to park back in the lot at the DMV after the test. They eliminated the need for parallel parking back in 2020.

No longer required. f you have older friends they may be tell you that they had to do it- - but it was dropped several years ago. Their rationale was that is not an essential skill, as technically you can keep driving until you find a spot where you don't have to parallel park. Best to stay ~ 5 MPH below the limit. Be mindful of the speed of other cars , but do not exceed the speed limit even if others are. They are not being tested, you are. Good luck on your test!!!
