Might be my boat underwater, or maybe the drinks to salve that pain, but I think I love you guys and your dive into it with a great attitude. I'll send you pics when I get my Kaya on the top of water and the sails full. It's been a HARD week post bomb cyclone, yet you helped tonight. Merci!
I'm in the throws of life trying to refloat my sailing partner and home Kaya. The BC bomb cyclone stole her from her mooring while I was wintering ashore. Congratulations you guys, you have helped me feel more optimistic.
Stricty speaking, it's a sailing dinghy........ and thanks back in the day to the Daily Mirror who introduced it as a kit that could be made at home using the novel 'stitch and glue' technique. Just about everyone I know who started to sail back in the 60s, 70s and 80s has sailed one of these wonderful little dinghies.
Beautiful!
What paint did you use?
Hempel gloss black and hempel multicoat white.
Great video guys, boat looks awesome! And the chickens 😅 bless them x
Great job on the hull. Looks classy!
Thanks @@andymiller1308 👍 much appreciated
👍
Love your videos ❤
Thanks guys!
@trevhedges no, Thank you!
4:43 what, no “glorious sanding” Mads from sail life will be disappointed 😂
@trevhedges we will make a separate 143 hour long video of just sanding for madz ❤️🤣
3:00 how cute was that seal? They really are “sea dogs” 😊
@trevhedges The real question is "CAN WE KEEP IT!"
loved this so so much!! great vid guys, adore you all ❤️
OMG…. Proper dunk! 😢
Is the mirror a good boat for a total novice cheers
In our opinion it is the best boat for a total novice.
Nice video
I loved my mirror. I put a lot of love and work into. Unfortunately I sold when other projects took up all my time. I still thing about the times I had sailing it. I am glad there still are people that sail them.
My mirror was 39793. Never took it on open seas but loved cutting my teeth with dinghy sailing. Fantastic video. Nice to know that they are still being sailed. Expat from uk now in Sydney 🇦🇺🫶🏻🇬🇧
Fantastic from Melbourne 🇦🇺👍🍺🍺
What a great little boat and she looks to be in wonderfully good condition too - and all original. Even the little turning block on the luff downhaul is an original from the early 70s (it was an optional extra, my Father bought one for our Mirror). I loved sailing our Mirror and happily still have her - cocooned away in a dry shed and waiting for me to be able to sail her again one day I hope. Keeping Mirrors in the dry is essential because although they are technically 'waterproof' the plywood is the least durable type imaginable and even a few weeks of constant wetting will get under the varnish and ruin the wood for ever or more particularly start rot forming. A friend of mine got his out of the shed where she had been stored only to find that a little water had sat in the cockpit and that the floor around the plate case had rotted out - in just a few months. He was very sad. Anyway enjoy your Mirror and try to get a copy of Mirrormania (from the early 1970s - lots of tails of mirror things including a circumnavigation of Fife by three single handed Mirrors...which looks as if it might be interesting to you as they set off from I think North Queensferry just near where your video is shot...
No way bro u got a boat for free LIFES good
It really doesn't get much better does it! Very happy.
Sincere congratulations - from someone tackling the same job!
Greatly appreciated! We hope you have a swift and successful outcome. All the best 👍
Nice I was Wooohooo when that motor 🔥 up
You and us Both!
Nicely done. You may have worked this out already but yachting self inflating lifejackets are not a good idea with dinghy sailing. When you go over and it inflates it will be difficult to get back onboard. A decent PFD is the best option for dinghy sailing.
Totally agree thanks Andy! I turned the self inflate off on mine in this case. Had to work with what we had.
Brilliant, well done, you fully deserve your new boat. A couple of picky things now. I was having kittens watching you fiddling with a running engine with laces hanging from your hoodie - never underestimate the strength of laces. Secondly, it's unseamanlike to have your fenders out whilst under way. Message ends.
Thanks multa. At least someone's keeping an eye out for my safety ❤️ I knew the fender comment was coming. I just thought you might let me off this one time 😭 it's not too "unseamanlike".. it just looks silly and a clear sign of an amature 🤪
Nice work!
Thanks very much! Looking forward to seeing the sea clipper 41!!
@@TheFreedomFarmacy I am as well. We're starting the hull build in 2024. I'm in the process of fabricating a trailer from an old mobile home frame to use as a strongback and transport trailer for the built hull and ama sections.
👍
I actually just got a free 41ft Morgan center cockpit that had sunk at the dock for possibly a year. The first thing I did was sail it 70 miles back home. Just finished a lot of scrubbing and got the engine to turn over by hand. It was locked up. Needs a lot of work but it's my dream boat. All I need is a gf to look at it and say "it's a cutie"...lol
A Morgan 41ft cc 😍😍😍 thats everyone's dream Yah lucky bugger! If the engine was sunk for a year in salt she might be worthy of a new heart? You keep your eyes and ears open I'm sure you'll find your "cutie" 👍
That engine is just unbelievable 😊👍. Did you drain/clean the diesel tank? If yes, how did you clean it?
Trusty little kubota 🥳 to get the engine running I pulled the deisel from a clean 5L Jerry can of fresh fuel. Since then, I have tried to clean the old steel tank with no succes and will be replacing it with a plastic deisel tank.
Great video, also well done with the boat. Fair winds.😊
Thanks tamar 🤙 Fair winds to you too
I use an aquarium pump to get rid of water in spaces .... easier to handle than bilge pump .....
Good Idea! a 12v one would be great.
Uplifting video. One in the eye for folk who insist you can't sail cheaply. Brilliant, well done.👍
Thank you very much, Brian. It's been nothing but a pleasure, and a bit of hard work. we will be sticking to a similar budget scheme regardless on the boats size 👍
Do the chickens go out on the sailboat also?
The cover photo on our channel homepage spoils it, but you'll see very soon!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Sorry about the loss of your phone. Hopefully you were able to retrieve it from the deep bilge.
Thanks so much guys ❤️ loving your videos. Yes, the phone was retrieved but soaking wet with no sign of life 😔
Saying hello from Puget Sound Washington. We just subscribed. Great work saving this old sailboat, and the engine seems to run great. I was surprised to see the alternator actually worked. Great work and great video.
Greetings from edinburgh Scotland!!! Such a delight to have you guys along for the ride. We love your videos and cant wait to watch your channel grow more!!
I know those waters well as I come from Fife originally and have sailed there with my Dad but am now landlocked in Lincolnshire. 😢
It doesn't need to stay that way forever!
No such thing as a free sailboat. You might take possession of it for nothing, but you'll pay more than a boat well maintained in the end.
Well done guys, what an awesome job.
Thanks mate, much appreciated.
Have you already decided which one of you will be the smart one, and which one - the cute one? ;-) Looking forward to seeing more from you, good luck guys!
We'll leave that entirely up to yourself to decide 😜 look forward to having you along for the ride!
even thought the alternator works spray it with crc or wd to keep it corrosion free
The starter motor and alternator are being completely rebuilt, and the loom replaced with new. It was just a matter of time with the corrosion like you say. better sooner rather than later. Better Safe than sorry👍
Stay funny and tuned i follow u
Thanks Fluffi!!
amazing
Thanks, Glad you think so!
I always have to heat your beta or no go
yes, it seems to need pre-heated every time.
Hi guys, she wouldn’t be the first boat/Yacht that sank and someone come along and restored it , keep up the good work. Don’t worry about the negative comments because you’ll get them. Just keep going forward. Don’t look back you’ll come across some things that need to replaced but that’s okay. It’s all replaceable Cliff from Logan city Queensland Australia from the big island 🧑🏾🦽🇦🇺🏝️🦘🐨🌏🏝🐬❤️
Thanks mate, well stop by on our way back to New Zealand hahaha
If you do call into the Gold Coast in Queensland, look me up and I’ll take around Show you a few sites or whatever you want to do
Good work with the salvage. So many old boats become litter so it's a pleasure to see one saved. Good luck with it.
Thanks 👍
Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!
As a fellow Marcon Cutlass owner I love watching you bring this boat back to life. Congrats.
As a fellow Marcon cutlass owner, Its an absolute pleasure to have you along for the ride.
She looks like a nice boat, don't take any notice off the negative comments I have recovered lots of sunken boats over the years and enjoyed every one. You will enjoy the end result.
Thanks for the nice comment Landyman. With the luck we've had so far, nothing could discourage us now.
how exciting, I can't wait to follow along on your sailing adventures. Do you have plans to cruise with her? Any destinations in mind? Congrats on getting that engine running, very lucky there. Waiting for the next vid already.
Thanks so much for coming along on this adventure! yes, while were learning the ropes we've got plans to cruise her to the UKs best fish and chip shop at the very least. Our long term goal is to sail back to New Zealand with our chicks.
The boat was free, but as everyone knows, there is no such thing as a free lunch! We bought a neglected boat out of a hedge and yes, she was good value for money but around 10k later she still needs odds and ends doing to her. BTW, she is absolutely amazing and admired by many!
