I swiped another layer of my rosy red rouge over my lips, taking a look at the sanguine color in contrast to my smoked sultry eyes, the shadow blurring my gaze into a hazy abyss, before I snapped my compact together and slipped it back into my clutch. A sound of an obnoxious throat clear shifted my half-lidded stare to make eye contact with yet another chap across the bar, his smirk smeared on his drunken face as his hand gestured to the empty seat next to him. I sighed as I took another dainty sip of my cabernet and finished the glass. I could have my pick of anyone in this bar instantly, that was for certain. It’s become a devious game of how much I could seduce a man. Taunt him. Then see how far he would go to have me. And yet, all I wanted was the one man I can’t have. As a shy ballerina during the day, a light smile never reveals what I feel inside, but as a languid vixen by night my sorrows drown further with each glass. And to forget the pain of a forbidden love, I attempt to fill an insatiable void of allure and enrapture, as a guiltless temptress. After all, what kind of selfish woman would I be if I stole the man she was in love with first?

Grateful that he lit a cigarette. Now I can sit in the darkness with my scotch on the rocks and contemplate the sound of the falling rain while looking at the lights of the city as I think about her. Why she left. Why it didn't work out. But mostly, why she took up with that lousy Winslow character. Maybe it was the money? Am I kidding myself? It's always about the money
