I am traumatized by this scene. Bond wearing a notch lapel dinner jacket!

Leave it to filmmakers to put three wonderfully cozy and engaging scenes from the books, showcasing the personalities and plot points of the characters, and turn it into one bland and boring scene in a cardboard set with three identical looking old men and Bond, trying to steal the scene with a cheap exposition. Goldfinger's first half of the plot may have been a total formulaic ripoff of Casino Royale and Moonraker, but at least Fleming fleshed it out with beautiful meaningful scenes and dialogue.

'M' definitely doesn't like Bond: he may respect him as a top agent but he doesn't like him judging by the way he talks to him and looks at him.

Fleming ran off with his issue .25 Browning, at wars end. Just like in this scene. The gun wound up in his estate. Gun could have been a Colt ,.25 1908, serial number matches, or a FN, 1906, basically the same gun ...

I always wondered why in these dinner scenes in movies, the conversation the viewer needs to see and hear, is always held at the end of their meal. Why didn't they discuss this important issue when eating? They were probably served at least four courses. Why wait until the coffee, cigars and brandy?

£5000 in 1964 would be £85,845.74 today. Which is $109,766.66 USD

A gold bar worth £5000 in 1964, and then consider what the average annual income for a typical worker in 1964 Britain when this film was released was around £900 to £1100 a year makes you understand how valuable gold bars were back then.

Ironically, the British actor playing the suave banker, Richard Vernon, would later be Sir Desmond Glazebrook, the rather numbskull banker in the UK show Yes Minister.

Smithers is also a rock climbing champion of the world seemingly. That gold would've weight at around 10kg. He casually transported it with his fingertips. Oh, and it is worth 5000 pound. You could snag a 2013. Ford Fiesta for that kind of money.
