Malahide Video Tour 1983
This video was recorded in 1983 with an old VHS video camera. It was shot by my dad, Chris Carey from a moving car.
The route starts from Chalfont Road travelling via the estuary towards the village. It travels through the village and up the Hill to Pobalscoil Íosa. Then back down Old Street up New Street and then towards Malahide Caste, Dublin Road and finally past Yellow Walls Road and down Texas Lane.

Malahide, my love. We live in Sonesta 84 to 86. And egaing 89 to 92. Still remember going for a walk in the Castle , cover in snow, the well at the back of the church, and the books taken from the librery. You know, how to put a tear of nostalgia on the eyes. From Queensland. THANK'S.☘☘☘
What a beautiful village even today. My Grandfather Sergeant Ward was the local Garda there in the 60s and 70s. I’ve lived in San Francisco California now for over 30 years, but I still book a week in the Grand Hotel when I return.
Great stuff
We visited Malahide in 2020 : ua-cam.com/video/QT2VGkU27qE/v-deo.html .. Please subscribe to our channel too
I lived in Baldoyle back then, I was 15 but I remember Malahide that way, I used to go to the fingal sailing school, great days. Thanks for sharing your Dad's video Greg, you could do a new video and run it split screen, (old vrs new) I'd say there would be great interest in it! Thanks again for the drive down memory lane.
Great vid. And strange how it makes me think of my home. I’m not even Irish.
4:36 ah through the auld school xD. Gone now :(
...pity there's no drive past the News Inn/Londis... would have caught Carrots sitting on the railings...
Great to see some video from my old home town. Lived in Malahide as a kid from the late 60's to mid 70's. Had great fun growing up there.
wow I wasn't born... I moved there ten years ago. lived in marina too and that was not even built amazing to watch
Great video... Billy meaghers, lawless brothers, mitchels tv, mcalisters garage, the beachcomer were is was originally all featured. God it has changed alot
Excellent video, thanks for sharing it with us. How far sighted your father was in recording it, what a great bit of video to have and show how much Malahide has changed since then - I can't believe how many things I had forgotten about.
It appears it was a pain in the balls driving around the traffic in Malahide village even back then! :)
Brilliant!
Great video! I was 16 when this was filmed, and lived in Portmarnock at the time. Having left Ireland in 1990, this is really how I remember Malahide.
Oops, signed on with the wrong ID - I'm sure there were no Almarios in the area.
Brilliant video. I was 5 months old!
Ahhhh the memories, I was only 13 in 1982 and malahide was my whole world. How much things change. Thanks for putting up the vid Greg😃
lovely video ..... hard to believe there use to be loads of FIATS on the road back then !
