Vernal Hanging-Parrot filmed at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Goa, India.
We visited Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in northeastern Goa, India, and were delighted to find many Western Ghats birds. The star among them was the Vernal hanging parrot. We didn't expect to see this cute little parrot here. It was playfully hanging from trees, feeding on fruits and flowers.
This brave parrot continually shifts from one tree to another, fearlessly foraging even with honey bees buzzing around. Finally, it settles on a tree to preen its beautiful green and red plumage. Observing these amazing parrot in their natural habitat is a truly happy and rewarding experience.
While all parakeets are spectacular, the vernal hanging parrot is the cutest of them all.
The vernal hanging parrot is admired for its vivid coloration and playful behavior, making it a favorite among pet and cage birds. Unfortunately, despite legal restrictions in India on keeping native birds as pets, this practice continues. These charming parrots are often kept in small cages and adverse conditions, which drastically affect their well-being. Sadly, people love them as cage birds without realizing the harm caused to these beautiful creatures.
