Newsletter 06 26 24 - Moxa Raises WBC Count in Chemo (black screen, no music)
Sign up for my newsletter at kimsooacu.com and receive my recommendations on how to talk to your doctor or acupuncturist about moxa protocols that can help you during cancer healing.
This week I want to tell you about the research and my experience with acupuncture and moxa in the treatment of cancer and complications related to cancer, chemo, and other cancer treatments.
Research confirms what we have known all along - acupuncture and moxa increase White Blood Cell Count (WBC), platelette count, quality of life markers, and reduce inflammation, nausea, and severe fatigue, among other things.
It’s now established, in a randomized controlled trial, that moxa raises white blood cell count. You can check out the research article, or my commentary on it, through this link blog at kimsooacu.com
To cite just one of the articles I’m currently digging into…the main concern during chemo regarding low WBC count, is that if the numbers fall too low, the patient may be forced to stop chemo treatment until the numbers come back up. Most patients will do anything to keep their WBC within normal range, because they do not want to have to repeat a course of chemotherapy with all of its toxicity, its damage to the healthy tissues of the body, and its crippling effects on our lifestyles. My father, who passed after a 3 year battle with colon cancer, said that if he could do it over again, he would have let the disease run its course and have what little time he could as himself. Such was his suffering during chemo - he would have rather avoided it, and died sooner.
Many people feel this way. Including myself.
But some people are ready for the fight, and they do want the full course of chemo, and for them, they're also concerned greatly about other effects of chemo which can be debilitating. According to those who have gone through it, the worst experience is severe fatigue, followed by nausea, followed by vomiting and gastric upset. Not far behind are complaints about frequent colds and flus. Chemo patients with low WBC count also get infections more frequently, because of their impaired immunity and the high stress they are under.
Moxa - and acupuncture - treat all of these symptoms. And in the case of low WBC count, nausea, and lowered immunity, moxa actually works better than the medications doctors give you for these symptoms and conditions - and taking fewer toxic medications during chemo is what everyone wants and needs!
And, research articles also show that patient survival and remission rates can be as high as 1 out of 5 (=20%) for those who use acu+moxa, compared to those who do not. That’s a 20% increase in your chances of survival, remission, or increase in your experience of quality of life (QOL).
Bottom line, acupuncture + moxa can mean the difference between your surviving, or dying of cancer.

When I started getting acu i the 00's, every top tier acupuncturist I saw in NYC was practicing out of their apartment. I finally made the transition and honestly, I'm really enjoying it. A practice at home has long been a staple for acupuncturists in New York, but it's even more a necessity with commercial real estate rents and sublets only rising. Clients have responded positively! Is it possible for a knee sprain to go in for 3 months? I went to two orthopedic with a negative drawer test and I forgot what test the other one did but both said I don’t have A ligament injury. I can back squat and walk fast now however it’s still not fully healed

Hi Jonathan - I apologize for the late reply, thank you for commenting. I really need to do a proper history and see your range of motion to know what your injury is like, what the timeline for that might be, and how you might help yourself. For that you can book a consult by DMing me through instagram: @kimsoo_teacher Try the squats in parallel - I hope they help. Thanks Kim

Wow! An enlightening video on so many levels. Not only an education of the tarot reading process, but more importantly: insight into your views of life, your place in the cosmos, how your energy is impacted by and impacts everything around you, the motivations for your thoughts and actions, the healing properties of introspection, and more. This video also spurred my curiosity of the impetus for and perhaps the catalyst of this reading. Also, you made reference to the fact that you are a student of Tarot (a tyro of Tarot 😁) and need more study. This may be true, but what is evident is your affinity for seeing the significance and the redemptive potential inherent in a tarot reading. I look forward to your next reading.

Enjoyed this reading very much. I find the process of tarot reading fascinating. Your interpretation of the cards illustrated not only your knowledge of the meaning of the cards (which is impressive), but also your ability to articulate your feelings and impressions of the cards in a very cogent manner. I look forward to other videos like this.

I loved the commentary. It's such a reflection of how I see you, and I don't mean as an inconsistent person. I mean as someone who is introspective and willing to show those human frailties that come to the fore with self examination. Even more importantly, as someone who is willing to share with others his struggles and also the revelations that sometimes come though introspection with the hope of making the world a little bit better.

the movement looks like tai chi, with movements I find the be beautiful. I studied it for a minute. I don't understand the title of this video as it relates to the subject, although the formula makes some sense on its own.

Thank you Greg - movements that are new (or rusty) will stimulate the body more noticeably than ones we're used to. This is called novelty - and it's a focus the fitness industry looks for in eeking out a little more strength or muscle growth from experienced athletes, whos bodies respond less than beginners. You're right that the movements look like Tai Chi - they're from a Qigong set which focuses on wringing out more range of motion from the spine (and also way outside the fitness industry's standard scope). Any type of movement, no matter the origin or purpose, can be useful in providing a new stimulus, to drive change. I thought it'd be interesting to make that point by showing something from outside of strength training/fitness and discussing how it improved my ability to overhead press, which is a cornerstone movement in strength training.
