There's STILL a Stone in My Kidney
Okay but not really because i filmed this over a year ago and forgot to upload it! The stone is gone now, as is the stent THANK GOODNESS. PSA this was absolutely filmed while i was on high on pain medication. "Courage is not having the strength to go on, it is going on when you don't have the strength." - Teddy Roosevelt
.
So this is the second part of my kidney stone saga which ended up requiring two surgeries to solve! i might post later about the final surgery and aftermath if that would be helpful. This video may be a bit TMI in explaining what a kidney stone really means, how kidneys work, and why a stent is so painful, but if you have a kidney stone or want to know what it really feels like, this is for you! If you don't want to know, skip from 3:45 - 5:10 to avoid the medical descriptions. If you want to avoid all surgery talk and just jump ahead to the point where i get real about my feelings, scroll to 5:40 .
And thank you to everyone in my life who got me through this point in my life!

Growing Up Sick (& i got a tattoo?!)

"Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick." - Susan Sontag i'm having surgery! And for the first time i'm doing it "on my own." It's kind of scary to be doing this as an adult, but i've been thinking a lot about the fact that growing up sick means i'm pretty much a pro in medical settings. i'd love to hear about your experiences growi...
Meds and a Lot of Metaphors

"i hope you feel like its okay to be honest and it's okay to ask for help. It's simply a part of being a human." - Jamie Tworkowski It's been a while, UA-cam! i filmed this video many months ago back in October and have forgotten to upload it until just now! So here's a look at my dorm room and a metaphor-filled discussion of what it's been like to get back on medication for my mental health, a...
Disabled & Powerful | Becoming an RA

"No one is you and that is your power." - Dave Grohl This year i'm going to be a resident assistant at my college, and that's super exciting, but also a little bit terrifying - because i'm scared i won't be good enough. It's so easy to believe the lie that our illness makes us weak, but i think we're pretty freaking powerful.

"We all have chapters we would rather keep unpublished." - Downton Abbey Talking to folks about your health can be hard! Do you even have to tell anyone that you're sick? (Short answer: no! Long answer: but you can!) Disclosure should be empowering, not frustrating, and here's why. [Find me on Instagram! myelasticheart ]

"i am always doing what i cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it." - Vincent Van Gogh Being in college is hard, but it's way harder when you're also dealing with chronic health issues and disabilities. Here's a little bit about why. Also, sorry for the weird lighting changes? The window behind me was brighter than i'd anticipated. [Instagram: myelasticheart]

A Very Long Season

"After your season of suffering, God, in all His grace, will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." 1 Peter 5:10 A video in which my camera has trouble focusing. It's been a very long season, both literally and metaphorically. But I think I'm finally reaching a turning point. I'll be getting surgery #3 next week and I'm both nervous and excited, but mostly very ready. I'll keep you p...

CRPS and Christmas

"What matters most is how well you walk through the fire." - Charles Bukowski. I've been doing a little more walking lately, but also feeling a lot of fire-like sensations in my knee. It's important to remember that people deal with so many unique experiences. CRPS is considered to be a rare disease, and so it's easily misunderstood. This video is from December 9th, about two weeks ago. I've been a bit busy, which explains the delayed upload- but this should explain why I've been busy. I had another surgery which was meant to help improve the range of motion in my knee. It's also created a bit of new pain. What's a manipulation? What is a pain pump catheter for? What's the point of purpose? Watch and learn the answers to tw...
hi i found your video by accident, but i hope youre still doing well in life :)
Just Saw you in CNBC Make it
I like the way you explained your situation! So many people judge and tell us what we should be doing to get better. Looking forward to following your journey.
We love you too and I love you too and what you said is the truth. 😀😃😘😗😙❤💋
YES Britt! Not only do you have a lot to offer at our college, but we desperately need experiences like yours to be represented and heard by administrators, professors, faculty, and students alike. Not that you're at all responsible for speaking out, but we are so honored to get to hear your voice and I'm personally immensely grateful for all the advocacy you do. Like you said near the beginning here, making your own health a priority and being in tune with your needs is so difficult, especially since many of us get into selective schools by training ourselves to ignore what our bodies are asking us to do and in college (at least at ours lol) we're surrounded by people who've done the same and continue to perpetuate a culture of academic martyrdom because the rubber hasn't met the road (yet) for them. Also WHO was this professor who implied illness is subconscious? Feel free to message me with that info but I really am curious...
Thank you, friend! i am so honored to have people like you in my life who i learn from & can lean on! There really is so much pressure all around us to ignore our bodies & focus on "life of the mind" but it's so unsustainable!
