facing bascule girder 1

In this operation we are facing the bearing plates that are bolted to the bascule girder web. This will provide a machined surface perpendicular to the bore.
push boat threading a needle

These southern push boat captains are amazing. This video was taken from the tower of the Warrior River Bridge (vertical lift bridge) in Alabama. One wrong move and there is going to be one hell of a mess to clean up. I hope you like the video because its the only worthwhile thing that came out of that trip.

Impressive
Small point: it's called a towboat. No good reason, it just is.
Surprised there’s any catfish left after that weed whacker goes through.
That's a job there. Done it many times.
Very cool video. Thanks for making and posting this!
He knows the road so to speak
Love the sound of those GM diesel's.
Kissing the apex, and powering out with the drift... Buen Camino
I worked at parker towing about 12 years the reason I quit I hated it because 2 homosexuals on the boat
Always a treat to see these BIG BOYS while catfishing on B.W. or T. - T. !!! 💙🇺🇸
Akron railroad bridge?
It's the piss brick
Ah, the old Green River slide
WOW. GREAT VID. THANX
Of course I loved this video, ,,that's a big boat an a big toe for such a small river,,he has got to be hitting bottom through there, ,he had it close to hitting the bank on the other side
“The one good thing about eating up the bank, is you know 100 boats have done it before, so it SHOULD be washed out” lol 😂
RR crossing Fitchs ferry Utaw Alabama.
Impressed!!! You can pilot that bitch. Damn tootin Sir!
Wheres his Deckhand talking him through? Lol

Say what?

Reminds me of my days on the Green River. When the water was high you might end up steering through a cornfield lol
can someone explain the barge config. with the barges alongside and at the same astern as his vessel is he not losing side way manouvring [i am dutch origin]
I believe that configuration makes the tow rigid. If the joints between barges weren't offset the tow would be more susceptible to flexing during maneuvering.
They do it for locks. Since most locks on this river are around 600’x 110’ this tow configuration is the perfect size to max out the lock without having to break tows down for trips. It maximizes the time it takes to transit.
It has to do with the desired length of the tow. The barges next to the boat depending on the draft can affect some control, especially for the flanking rudders. the experience of the man in the wheelhouse is everything knowing when and how to move the head of the tow and position the stern with the current to keep off the "moonwalk". Pinned against a bank. time is money and the home office tracks everything. we always had the bulk of our tow lined up even rarely staggered. My job as a mate was to set up the wires correctly. And to see to it each watch walked the tow regularly tightening it.
Great video
Parker towing is home to me
Is parker hiring?
That's the Gilbert Taylor
made that bridge a many of times. 2 double up jumbo. 108 wide. that's a calm river
Still 300' shorter than him.
wow that starboard quarter came awfully close
Yeah it did! What 8' to 10' tops?
So did the port side head going in.
Nice video, thanks!
Damn good job going through AGS Bridge it can and has been hit the bridge piers several times and yes I've been through it a few time myself. Good video
105 ft wide by 885 ft long, probably in the neighborhood of 12000 tons of cargo just my professional guess . yes either the black warrior or Tenn Tom
105' wide correct. Looks 3 barges long times 195' would be 585' long. Each with app 1500 tons is my guess. Good job making the bridge.
@@bradgt5130 rakes are 195 l.boxes are 200ft l.
It looked like he was gonna get his wheels in the mud toward the end.
If he was in mud you would have seen it. he was in fine shape or he would have backed off to let the head fall down and the current bring him back to center.
Do they actually call these "push boats" down south? Up north (IL) we call them "barges". I know technically each unit of the H would technically be barge, we also use the term to refer to the whole thing.
Quantitas Letalis the boats are called tugboats. A “barge” is one of the flat rafts being pushed by them.
@@santamanone actually, these are Towboats. Tugboats actually pull their barge(most of the time) where Towboats push their barge(s).
Im actually from Owensboro, KY myself. Not sure how familiar you are with towboating, but the crews come from all over. Usually meeting at their home port then travel to the boat together as a crew. The pilots on those Parker boats, are amazing to watch run the Black Warrior and Tenn-Tom. Thank you for the video, thats an awesome angle to show people how close we come to that bridge.
Thats the AGS railroad bridge mile 267.7 upper black warrior. The thing is that's not even the worst part of the river. Brought 8 lds out in a knockout tow on single screw 1800.
Yep thats a Parker boat with a classic "H" pattern tow on the Black Warrior river. I ran that river for a few years with Florida Marine Transporters and its definitely a no joke river. they say if you can run the Black Warrior you can run anywhere though.
Homgrwn when are we going for a ride sir ?
How dare you call it a push boat? That is a tow boat sir, even though it never tows, only pushes. I got in trouble on another site for pointing that out.
@@jamesburton7298 It pushes the tow. That's what they call the barges rigged together.
Typical for a parker boat they get down on those rivers. They some high water heros. Come around those bends sliding turned up.

The Tennessee-Tombigbee. Sorry I misspelled it.
