Frederick Raphael’s memoirs quoting Kubrick’s opinion on Schindler’s List has been denounced by Kubrick’s wife Christiane as false and unreliable biography long time ago. So, pointless argument.

Sorry but I agree with Kubrick on this, why? It is NOT Spielberg's job, or any other film-maker for that matter, to educate about the Holocaust. Personally I have done it through something that is not very popular today: studying history, as everyone should. Second and most important point (which I think is the point that Kubrick himself was arguing): although films can have an important function as educational tools, they also can offer a very rhetorical and blind-sided perspective on the matter, to the point they can actually do the opposite of what they aim for. That is the biggest problem Schindler's List suffers imo, personally I find it in parts to be even anti-Semitic (yes I said it, shoot me on that).

I think Kubrick was saying that Schindler’s list ends on hope where as in the holocaust ends on tragedy honestly I can’t see any film bringing the holocaust subject done right just read and study about it. some things can’t be put in melodramatic cinema context

History is often written by people who won or in power and then further contrived by filmmakers who want to put forth an idea…..learning history from films is like listening to someone’s subjective opinion which itself is based on a very specific side of the overall narrative. So never rely on films for a proper understanding of history, it’s as good as a myth or a fable. Plus a true filmmaker presents events as it is and leaves it to the audience to make up their minds. That’s the difference between Kubrick and Spielberg or Terry George etc.

To have seen it and viewed it up front is breath taking.

Sorry Terry George, but it ain't bullshit. You're sadly right that most people learn about the holocaust from Schindler's list. That's precisely the point, they learn about it through a redemption story and they eyes of the saved. It's presented as a hope pill so as to mitigate the pain.

This is sad AF. Mainstream media is garbage and movie making has sunk even deeper. Everything has an agenda.

Tigran Babadjanian from Gyumri is also an agent. Both he and Darren talk of being creative packagers managing talent careers as well as inventing projects for them in a producer-type role. Sevak Ohanian is a film producer and screenwriter. In February 2021 Ohanian's company Proximity Media signed a 5-year exclusive TV deal with Disney.

Below I’m cross-posting a comment I made on the “Armenians of Australia” Facebook page which has 5,900 followers. || If you are familiar with these American-Armenian (OK New Zealand and Armenia too) personalities, skip to 48:00 minutes. From there it gets interesting as actor and author Eric Bogosian leads in my reading for the next 35 minutes. We hear more evidence that film and TV US culture continues to follow the money of non-US audiences, inserting bits and pieces from cultures abroad and from within the US. It’s a trend from decades ago, eg the moment when more than 50% of the Hollywood studios gross revenues came from licensing abroad. Now there is apparently increasing signs of multiculturalism in the US too. With this, to have an opportunity to people in film and TV actors no longer have to, or they refuse to, get a nose job and change their surnames. As Serge notes what’s needed next is more producers, directors, composers, actors, in a word creators

Congratulations Armenian artists

I think it’s pathetic if you learn history from films. If Schindler’s List taught you about the Holocaust then any film on any subject matter can be bent to get a narrative across. You shouldn’t be watching Hollywood films to learn about the Cambodian genocide or Chinese famine. They are meant to be something that can help you further think about these issues. .
