Rotating players at positions builds depth. However, if performance is not up to par, how long does a coach wait before reducing rotation rate? Before watching this content, I’ve viewed the O-line problems as one of two things: poor coaching or unaddressed interpersonal conflict because the line doesn’t play cohesively. Now I wonder if the fundamental cause is too frequent rotation. I hadn’t looked at Coach Terry’s past, and this content induced me to review his experience. He’s had great players to coach, which might mask a coaching deficit. Alternatively he may be a good coach who doesn’t know how to foster resolution of interpersonal issues among players. I don’t know. Regardless of the fundamental cause, Lanning needs to identify the cause(s) and address them immediately. I hope rotation frequency is the issue because that’s a quick fix…albeit leaving future injuries as a path back to this problem.

I really hope that Oregon doesn't fall into the competition model that is, essentially, “playing to your competition, lesser or greater, and hoping that enough of the breaks go your way resulting in a win. it is a recipe for a 8-4 season, at best. A season that has inexplicable losses against lesser teams and surprising wins against better teams. In comparison, Yes, Georgia is a very special program but the "competition model" that Georgia plays with is much different. Georgia DOES NOT CARE who you are, they come to play and will beat you into submission and run up the score and say “sorry - not sorry”. I think that this is the "Standard" that Coach Lanning wants his players to adopt. It ain't happening yet. Far from it.

Oregon doesn’t want to waste the bullets on these lesser teams…they want vanilla game plans, because they’re saving all of those bullets for Ohio state, since it’s a program changing win. Gabriel has has infinite opportunities to run, and he won’t run…why? Because if you use that now, Ohio State will sniff it out, and shut it down with a spy. Until the 3rd drive in game two, there’s been no real effort to throw it deep…why? Because if you use all these big plays on lesser teams, Ohio State will have already seen them on film, and build a game plan around those plays too. The only thing I don’t think they’re trying to hold back on is running the ball, but they just couldn’t get any push with the smallest OL on the roster, playing center. But once we moved poncho back to center, and put Strother at RG, everyone was 315 to 325lbs, which is why they added 80yds of rushing with the OL grouping, where as they had 30yds for 3/4’s with Pickard at center. So I agree, Oregon knew they were way more talented, and they built a game plan that would win the game, while showing as little as possible for the biggest regular season game in program history.
