Parsha Ki Tetzei : A Journey Through Violence and Compassion - Rabbi Cat Zavis
Переглядів 902 місяці тому
Shabbat Shalom! ✨ Join Rabbi Cat Zavis as she shares her reflections on this week’s parsha, Ki Teitzei. This powerful Torah portion presents a striking contrast, balancing mandates of violence with calls for compassion. It mirrors the complexities of our world today, where we see both justifications for violence and radical acts of care. Rabbi Cat dives deep into these themes, drawing connectio...

This week’s reading dives deep into the choice of blessings vs. curses as laid out in Deuteronomy. The essence? It’s not just about the outcomes of our actions but the very act of listening-or not-to the teachings of the Torah. Blessing: Listening with intent (שמע) to the Torah’s teachings. This isn’t just hearing but truly taking it to heart, letting it shape us. Curse: Ignoring these teaching...

i am truly grateful to all the participants and to Rabbi Cat - you render accessible the beauty of these messages 🥹 may we independently and collectively return to our Source in serenity
Dear Rabbi Cat, I am listening to the Parasha for Noach. In the future, I will try more conscientiously to be online with all of you. I am not completely through the discussion and wanted to make an observation about God instruction to make an ark with compartments and cover it both inside and outside with pitch. Which suggests to me in “Noah’s time there was an understanding of the need to keep apart the beings, the various others, who will restart the, hopefully, new generation. Maybe the question is how we keep “apart” the communities that may make sick the rest who would otherwise renew human’s (?) understanding our non-separateness.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful musings. The way to move through this all is through community, deeply rooted in love and solidarity in order to build resilience and a network of compassionate people who can stand up to the inevitable challenges we all face. You are amazing and greatly appreciated <3
Amen
Wonderful. Inaightful. Couregous. The violence in Haiti has intensified and expanded. They are dangerously close to us. Last week the destroyed the MIssionaries of Charity compound, including their convent, hospital for malnourished children, a woman's clinic, and a school, all serving the poor. They are just ten minutes from my home for abandoned and abused kids. Very stressful times. Gerry Straub.
Why don't you mention the existing 3rd parties, Greens, Freedom Socialists, etc? This is the 1st of hundreds of questions.
thank you.
Thank you for this vision and the heart and soul and faith in it.
it,the election, is hard for you. i hope you overcome these feelings and join us in love and joy.
This was beautiful and so helpful. I was also moved by the same passage. Maybe every day we “rise and shake the soil off ourselves” and come out of our constricted places. I really appreciate the emphasis here on endless, dynamic co-creation.
These are wonderful insights! I especially like the insight that "God spoke, and the waters, plants and animals came out of their constricted places," that creation is co-creation. There's a passage in The Magician's Nephew, one of the Narnia Chronicles by C.S. Lewis, that describes animals climbing out from being buried in earth, shaking the soil off themselves and beginning their existence in that world. That reads a lot like this commentary on Bereshit. Shabbat Shalom.
October 7th ... I know it was an honest mistake, but Israel was not attacked from within. It was attacked from an Occupied Ghetto that they thought (were fooling themselves in thinking) they had totally under control. On top of that, that "narrative" of criminal occupation & criminal brainwashing and oppression of Israelis and others is 80 years old. Netanyahu & Co. (USA, EU, etc.) don't care how much damage they do to their own citizens/people ... they are only interested in their own profits. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Rabbi Cat!
Beautiful, Cat. Thank you.
Thank you for your moving words, Rabbi Cat!
Thank you, Rabbi Cat!
Just one question Cat: Do you believe that the State of Israel is an illegitimate "project"?
thanks
Last week's parsha effeccted me deeply own experiences.
I see again that the questions Christians might ask, the Rabbis have already discussed. This is wonderful! "...there is nothing new under the sun."
ESSENCE
Thank you, Rabbi Cat, for reminding us that we, the people of the world, including Israel, Palestine and the US, can choose to face our unhealed trauma, find healing, and live together in peace -and that God is helping us do that!
i tend to wake up when these are ending my time so it's nice to have the recording ^.^
amen 🥹
~ thank you Rabbi Cat. yes, we are irreplaceable persons ☮❤
So beautiful, Rabbi Cat. Heartfelt thanks. Even to simply hear the vision is healing and hope-sparking, inviting wise risk-taking for the sake of justice.
Thank you for sharing this ancient and sustaining wisdom, which is so needed in our time.
Our pleasure!
