Great to finally see some thought and potential solutions for BTC. I just worry about timing and adoption. Seems there will be a lot of folks left in the dust when a cryptographically relevant quantum computer hits the street. Knowing the contention that exists in the community with change, I'm concerned with this actually gaining adoption.

Routing through anonymous servers within the dark/onion/tor network still uses a routing network that is out of your specific control, yes? Generally speaking, doesnt this still give opportunity for being shut down through crashes, hacking, govt intervention, different countries power fluctuations etc? Therefore prohibiting transmission of your data from one place to another?

I listened to this until it got to someone asking a question that I couldn't hear. My question is:- So I'm running this server and want to be on Twitter or Facebook. I want to send a normal Email. I want to look at my Revolut app to check my balance. Can I still use these apps or do I need completely different ones?

How does the watchtower know if there is a bad transaction? Is it automated or manually done, if manually done could there be a higher chance the watchtower might not revoke the bad transaction?

I am very happy with my Start 9 server. It was fairly easy to set up DIY with excellent instructions.

As I understand it, it's because refreshing coins prevent the second spending path to be available by resetting the timelock. So basically you send to yourself with your multisig to reset the timelock, otherwise the second spending path becomes available. This is why you need both of the signatures because you send to yourself within the multisig.

Having listened to Matt speak on this topic a number of times, and having used Start9 for a few months now, I am convinced that this is the future of personal sovereign computing. Most likely people will be orange-pilled then start9 pilled as a consequence... as the number of bitcoiners grows, so will the number of start9 users.

Around 47:30- Where did you hear wolves kill for fun? Just an FYI, killing for sport is almost entirely human thing. No other animals do that. If you think wolves kill for sport or for fun it’s just your lack of understanding about their behavior. Wolves will kill for surplus, but this too is extremely rare. Also. City folk aren’t as stupid as you might think, they know the gruesomeness of nature and what an apex predator can do to livestock. Maybe they just don’t care about your snowflake feelings. If your squeamish, that’s okay, but don’t act like predators being predators is somehow this abomination. I thought growing up on a ranch might have made a little harder as a person. But I guess not since that seeems to be a sticking point in rural folks argument here. Lastly, uhh yeah, we know Colorado is an ag state, why would that stop me from voting for wolves? Honestly, try and make me care when we are talking about the production of beef. A source of protein everyone agrees we can do with a little less of.

Quick note on firmware updates. A tool like Balena Etcher is only required for doing firmware recovery, which is an emergency procedure if someone the main firmware were ever to have a major bug that prevented you from using the normal firmware update procedure. We haven't needed to use this, though, so you can normally just download the firmware file onto microSD and update Passport from its Settings menu. No special software required.
