Biohome Biorock update (bad news)
So this is my bio rock update on how I’m finding the product unfortunately as the only marine tester of this product it’s hard to compare other people’s experiences but this is mine
I’m still continuing to use the bio rock just switching to a tropical setup as I’ll have lots of other people’s tanks to compare too
@pondguru
Thanks again for letting me be a tester of this product hope you find this feedback helpful

How to set up a marine aquarium one thing I missed is making sure that you’re familiar with the nitrogen cycle and have a vague understanding on water chemistry and fish keeping in general. Once you have that knowledge this video will explain all the basics that you will need

Hi bud I've got this exact tank and also looking to upgrade the pump to something that will fit in the back. What pump did you upgrade to, couldn't hear what you said in the video. Cheers
Was an oase 1000 mate
@@Angelfishkeeper98 the optimax?
Whats the filtration like on this ? Powerful? Easy to clean?
Beautiful neon tetras you have
Hi Mate, Ive been lookingat the Aquaone nano 60 but its out of stock everywhere, the AquaManta looks almost identical (except curved glass edges) It seems cheap compared to others of tanks. any reason why you can think of. would you recommend this tank or any major draw backs?
How have u modified your ta k to fit the filter
❤
Just seen this video now and the no nitrate situation after 2 weeks of setting the tank up is a really strange result since 2 weeks is nowhere near long enough for the bacteria to build up to a big enough population to consume all the nitrate. Apologies if I missed it but what water conditioner did you use? It sounds like the cycle didn't get going if it was testing zero nitrate after 2 weeks.
Oh no That is bad news! Buddy
Unfortunately but I knew it wasn’t ideal and would be a risky test but hopefully be much better in the tropical tank and as for the fish stock yeah very bad but again that’s the thing with marines especially wild fish but as I said I don’t believe that had anything to do with the rock at all
This hobby isn’t just plain sailing and I’ll share every part of it the good and the bad
Plants make freshwater tropical hip again Almost level pegging with saltwater Lush tank mate, and video
Yeah gonna mate the tank next to it planted too and yeah love my marines too should be an upgrade on that tank soon
I keep saltwater reefs but I really like your freshwater planted tanks. They are very relaxing to watch.
Thank you for watching I’ve just shut down my reef tank briefly but I am more a freshwater guy but I work with marines so don’t feel to big a need to keep them
Rosy tetra are hyphessobrycon rosaceus. I really love mine super beautiful fish
Yeah I’m aware of this the fish in vid are white fin bentosi tetra but other than that the info is correct hence why I’ve left the video up
Do u sell angel fish & if so do u mail fish? Looking for two grown blue angels. Let me know. Thank u!!! 😊❤❤❤❤😊
Sorry don’t ship fish
@@Angelfishkeeper98 thanks for ur feedback. 👍🏼😁
very beautiful saltwater tank stunning flame angel i want to get one in the future for a saltwater build
Thank you yeah they’re beautiful fish not for everyone though not the easiest angel to keep
Your welcome anytime my friend
That Flame Angel 😍 hoping he's not a coral eater!
So far so good
Cool tank
that is the white tipped tetra also known as the false rosy tetra :)
They were previously at the time of this video (Hyphessobrycon bentosi rosaceus) now yes have been reclassified as their own species don’t worry I’m aware ☺️I’ve work with these guys for years
Starting to look good Have you had any diatom troubles?
Cheers man and no clean up crew take care of that and I don’t have excess nutrients or lack of either
very nice! 💯 new sub for you and keep it up 👍
Thanks man I appreciate it
I like the contrast of the substrate
Yeah the sand contrast’s really nicely with the mojo wood
Very nice tanks
Wonderful! I've been delaying rescaping my 55 gallon which currently has river sand and is dirted.
Yeah that’s not gonna be fun to change over
Beautiful 👍
Cheers mate I’m really loving this scape
Promo*SM 😇
I would’ve started with at least a 125 gallon aquarium. Just saying 🙏🇺🇸
Nah I don’t work in gallons this is more than big enough to achieve the goal I’m after
Looks great! Finally got mine in the freshwater aquarium Had some problems videoing but I’ve tried my best to remedy it in editing
Yeah I’m really happy with it so far can’t wait to get some coral in there
Hey, im looking at getting this. Are the fluval roma 125 loud tanks?
I’m sorry I’m lost if you mean the equipment it comes with then no not really
@Angelfish keeper Yeah, the filter it comes with and the pump etc
@@Bawsa. no not really the u3 is fairly quiet I upgraded to the 307
Lol I feel this was made for me
Not intentionally haha but hopefully it’ll help people who are intimidated by saltwater
Hey! Looks good. I have the regular biorock without the extra marine minerals, but I actually started a salt water system with it, too. I don't have a video about it yet but it's in the works. I'm going for a really low tech set up but it's cool to see all the auto dosers and stuff that you have going on. I look forward to seeing how your progress goes with the system. Gooduck!
Thanks man and yeah this is a fairly low tech system but can’t wait to see how coral fairs with this stuff thanks for watching
Looks good Can’t wait to try it in my tropical tank Too technical for me reef replicating but looks the part so far
Most the equipment I have isn’t even necessary all you need is a light filter and heater Lot easier than it looks just can’t cut corners and patients is the key
That's the color marine fish keepers seem to want ('purple') and I can see why - it looks amazing under those marine lights. I can't wait to see it when the tank is mature and the rock is colonized by corals. We already know corals love the Biohome material and the rocks are even more suited to corals and plants rooting to them. Awesome stuff - thanks for the upload.
Well coralline algae is purple which only grows in mature/ maturing systems with this rock and many other marine rocks being purple it already gives you mature looking rock from the off so most marine keepers should opt for this colour while trop keepers should go for the grey/brown varieties as purple isn’t a natural colour in tropical but I can’t wait either looks so much better in person my camera isn’t great with blues I need to get a filter for it
@@Angelfishkeeper98 For a new 'rock' in the tank it still looked very impressive to me.
@@pondguru as I said mate it looks mature apposed to the ocean and tuffa rock that is white and goes through an ugly stage but I have tmc reef rock to compare to so I’m excited to get coral in
@@Angelfishkeeper98 Groovy.
I thought angelfish was aggressive and couldn’t live with with tetras ect
No not at all they live along side tetra in the wild
She is a tart 😂🤣
Are you just using a sponge filter for filtration??
So if you watch the other vids on this tank you’d know it had a 307 on it also and this thank has been shut down and sold for almost a year
Great looking product! Does look like lava rock 👍🏻 checking out your channel mate new sub🙂🎉
Yeah looks amazing can’t wait to get it scaped
@@Angelfishkeeper98 it’s already a beautiful tank! I’m more of a breeder, as plants are a new frontier for me..looking forward to future videos mate my name is Jeff. Have a great day!
I like to breed in a natural tank and the rock is for a marine aquarium that I’m setting up this weekend
The tank in this video is using lava rock
@@Angelfishkeeper98 I like the look of lava rock, and it’s great for beneficial bacteria
A Mixture of Clay, Sand, and Minerals but the trick Is the Right Sand, Minerals and Clay mixture then Fired in Kiln. Dont get the Mixture right, you don’t Get Biohome. They experimented a lot before Getting it right. Volcanic rock has micro holes but is not porous. Holes that are Sealed. Biohome is Porous, flow very slowly thru but should be saturated with Beneficial Bacteria 🦠 You could make your own but to save money time, trial and error just Order it and be done. They already pretty much perfected the mix and Consistency.
Yeah I have Biohome bio gravel in most my filters be nice to see how it compares
Nearly right but there is no clay used whatsoever !
@@mtourgus yes there is no clay in this media
I'm glad it arrived more or less undamaged - feel free to use it however you want and best of luck with the tank. Just let me know if there is any videos you'd like me to upload tom my channel, no worries. Regards, Richard
Yes Richard was very well packaged and only some tiny bits came off and this video and the one before it if you like whichever you feel would be best to get the use of the product across
Think I sent the links not sure😅
@@Angelfishkeeper98 I can't even remember watching this video or making that comment above yesterday, lol I banged my head yesterday around noon and got through all my emails, replies to comments and orders without remembering any of it then I ended up in hospital for a brain scan, getting home at 0330 today. Knackered. I'll link to this video from the Community tab on my channel and put links to your channel in there. When the rocks are mature with corals it should look awesome and for any of those videos I can directly upload a copy to my channel if you want me to no worries.
@@ThousandYardStare oh god we hopefully you haven’t caused any significant damage Richard or might have an Andy the 2nd😅😂and yeah that’s absolutely fine by me as long as you don’t think I forget to mention anything of significance and I can’t wait to get it all up and running and getting corals onto it
@@Angelfishkeeper98 That will be great to see it in the full glory under the lights with corals waving in the water flow and fish swimming in and out of the structures. As far as information goes anything is fine as it's basically just the Biohome reshaped into rocks so it works the same.
You get a canny bulk for your 5kg mind 👍
Yeah there’s actually 8 bits not 7 and obviously each box will vary
Wow you are lucky You should do loads of nitrates before and while using. It’ll be great to watch your progress with it👍
Luckily I know Richard and I’m very curious as it’s for a new marine tank and low nitrates aren’t great for that
Off topic but i think it's fascinating that you scaped this tank smaller than actual tank. You could have went higher and longer but chose not to. How come? Is it to create space for fish or something else?
This is because I’m thinking about the angels adult size and making sure they have room to grow to their full size
Hi, What temperature do you have your 125 at?
28 degrees Celsius
That's an absolutely stunning tank! The one thing I have read carbon can be a plant's worst enemy. Carbon binds some metals that plants use for nutrients. I still use carbon but I also use liquid ferts(Easy Green from Aquarium Co-Op) I'm thinking about removing my carbon just to see how my plants respond. Gorgeous Angels!
Thank you so much x and I’ve never had a problem with carbon and I never have it in longer than 3 weeks
Thank you so much for subscribing
My lights broke down, so I used marine lights for a small while maybe three months with blues turned right down. The only problem I had with this was it tended to bleach the green out of the plant so they was very pale yellow, although growing. I couldn’t really afford to buy new lights, so I then added a LED red light strip this eliminated that problem.
These lights have been used on tropical systems in the past and just max on red and whites gives a nice warm tropical look some lights a just recommend for marine but these can happily be used for both
Beautiful angels
Thank you much appreciated
We keep angels and they are beautiful to watch
@@thefishlady they really are definitely my favourite fish kept and bred them over 12 years now wouldn’t have a tank without them
Those Angel's are stunning. Loving the plant choices
Thanks miss follow on insta or Snapchat for quick updates both in my bio thank you for watching I’m so glad you like them I have had silver Angelfish for a long time
I have a similar tank in many ways. Love the ancient mossy wood :)
Yeah it’s a great tank and it’s really old wood

@@LushSaltyAquariums thank you from the UK
Hello Adam. I'm Kenny from South east UK. I thank God for letting me come across your channel. I am loving your channel, especially on fluval Romas. It is very hard to get a plethora of informations on these type of tanks. I own fluval roma 125l for about 15 years. It's time for me to up grade my internal filter to an external one as the back tiny clip for hanging the filter internally eroded away / broke. I was so excited to see that you are using fluval 307 with your 125l. Did you had to drill a hole on the tank lead? How was the set up for you from chaning from internal to external filter? Do you have a video or tutorial on this? I have been around your channel but could not see anything about this. Finally, I want to convert my white sand to a black sand (remodeling my tank 😄🙏🏽) I am finding it hard to get a good black sand substrate in UK. I have goldfish 🐠 now and not interested in gravels anymore. Please Adam, where did you get your substrate from? Is it fluorite black sand? I don't have a planted tank since switching from tropical to goldfish tank. Do you have a particular black sand? (name please). It is very confusing on amazon as well and couldn't get "black diamond blasting sand" - I am willing to give this a try. Thank you, as I would really appreciate your help. Have a good day, God bless. P.s. please if you can Adam, keep the videos 📹 going as your channel on fluval Roma is very helpful and beneficial to people like me here in UK 🇬🇧 😀
I work for Maidenhead aquatics so I got it from there no I’ve said in past videos it’s not a plant substrate it’s inert so doesn’t affect the ph
Can you please tell me what kind of cichlid you keep there.
If you looking at other videos you’ll see they are keyhole cichlids
@@Angelfishkeeper98 Are they compatible with small fish like neon and ember tetra’s?
Always do your own research but yes should be fine these guys only get to 4inch so neons will be fine but if they can eat something they will so keep well fed and embers should be fine too lots of plants and hiding places
I already have a fish profile video on them too
@@Angelfishkeeper98 Thanks
Koi angels have mostly the same genetics as gold marbles except for one thing - the blushing. True Koi angels have the blushing gene (double stripeless) easily spotted by the pink cheeks.
Marbles have a lot more melanin give the higher contrast of black pigment most domestic angel share the same genes as they all derived from the silver wild types to simplify things koi generally carry more red and white with a little black and marbles carry a lot of black with little white or red
@@Angelfishkeeper98 Thanks. When I was breeding Angels I did a fair amount of study into the genetics. If you like I can point you toward the scientific sources I've used in the past.
@@TheTaipan genetics isn’t really something that interests me to be honest I been breeding angels almost 12 years now
@@Angelfishkeeper98 Yeah, each to their own. I didn't really get into it myself for the first decade or so. Wasn't until I got requests from some local shops to supply them specifically that I wanted to understand what made a koi a koi.
@@TheTaipan to me genetics are to easy to complicate and you can’t say they’re genuine traits of a line until is consistent down 4-5 generations koi it’s in the name they look like tancho koi striking high red and white with a little accent of black and marbles because that high black with silver or white gives the marble effect it’s really that simple but yeah it’s a bit of a rabbit hole tbh to the average keeper doesn’t matter which is why I didn’t mention it
