Tim Wheeler's Memorial Trip - Rubicon Trail
This video is dedicated to the friends and family of Tim Wheeler. We lost Tim in May of this year after an 11 year battle with cancer. If you are on the Rubicon please stop by the beer tree and raise a toast for our friend. At the end of this video (around the 18 minute mark) I've inserted some clips of Tim wheeling with us.

How did the Fox shocks compare to the factory shocks?
Very cool music and very cool vid. Wish I knew this dude
This was recommended. But I'll watch for the wheeler dude
Woh nice video Nick!!
Thanks!
Keep those flags flying! Great vid!
Great video 👍 Hope to make it next year for our first time , from San Antonio Texas...
Thank you, I hope you’re able to make it. Have a great time !
nice, so I saw lake Tahoe once in my life,.....Greetings from Germany, I am a jeep devoty since I was at the age of 4 years.....
Looks like a hard landing.
Going through the water must be fun.
Very interesting!
thanks for the video, so I can see and taking part at the Jamboree, greetings from Germany......
Thanks for watching! We meet people there from all over the world perhaps you’ll get the chance to attend sometime.
Looks exciting!😃
Greetings from Pontassieve, province of Florence, Italy. I own a Suzuki Jimmy 4x4 with a 1.3 LT m13a petrol engine from 2001, all original, which I use to travel through the countryside, forests and mountains along agricultural and forest roads used by logging companies.
Hello! I just checked out some of your videos, looks like some nice driving. Thanks for sharing !
This was a great event. Fun trail and great people. I have to make time to attend those events.
Yes it’s definitely worth it. I went once to see what it was about and that was 12 trips ago now.
Made it look easy. That green GI Joe truck is rad! Marc needs more gear off the back. Did that Bronco get beat up?
The one you see in the video kept loosing the bead on his tire (is what we were told) it seemed to have some damage to the passenger front fender the camera didn’t pick up. There was another bronco with a matching dent on the slabs, must have been a bad line somewhere on the trail for them.
It’s always nice having him on the camera. Great footage and great camera work. That’s funny he got the part when Paul drove through town. Btw who the heck let a Toyota on a jeep trip.
Considering it’s an Jeep Jamboree I was wondering 🤔 the same thing
Was the wind equal both in speed and direction when you did both tests? Was the fuel tank relatively filled the same? Were there more riders in the first trip? Was this the same stretch of highway with the same weather conditions? And lastly, were you riding behind any other cars on either/both trips?
Same weather for both trips on the same stretch of road and no change in riders. Not riding behind any cars and fuel would be within a gallon of the same.
20:05, what the point of that rear window bar? I just installed mine without it. Been doing fine for like a week now
It keeps the rear window a little tighter to the tailgate for a better fit. It also makes it easier to roll up to put in the clips but I wouldn’t say you have to have it - as you are already experiencing.
does anyone know if you can buy just the harness to connect to the factory harness
Thank you!
Do you get water inside?
I have on rare occasion gotten a small amount of water inside near the bottom of the tailgate after driving in heavy rain but I don’t think that’s related to the topper. It did come with some sealant like for a tent to waterproof it and I actually didn’t use it.
I put on a 2" Bilstein lift and 32" Michelins. Went from 23 to 21 mpg. Mostly highway driving. The air dam is getting removed for looks.
How long does it take to run this trail? Looks like a fun one.
It’s certainly a fun trail. We took our time on the way in and I think it was around 6 hours. Part of our group hurried out and did it around an hour (with some damage) so it’s really how fast do you want to go.
Did you get the stock size shock?
No these shocks are for a 2-3.5” lift. I have the level kit on the front which I recall was supposed to be about 2.5” taller over stock height.
Whats the stock size of shock for 4th gen cummins??
I’m having trouble finding the dimensions of the oem shock but Bilstein calls for their shock with a 21.77” extension and 17.6” for a 4th gen with no lift.
Wow how do u get 29mpg i barely pass 22
I just want to know how you were getting 29 MPG with or without the air dam!!!
It wasn’t a tank average just the average I got over the same mile or so on the freeway reset at speed to remove any variables of traffic and acceleration. Wanted to test just the air dams effect at highway speed which seemed to be none. My tank average is much lower.
yeah, let the kids drive next time. i used to drive the old man's dkw german army jeep when i was a kid. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DKW_Munga i was bit early.
Good idea, That looks like a fun rig.
IN THE 80S THIS WAS A REALLY POPULAR EVENT IN PETERSENS 4 WHEEL AND OFF ROAD MAGAZINE. I AM GLAD TO SEE THAT IT IS STILL GOING STRONMG TODAY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
i do believe him. i used to have the trd sport with stock tires. i drove speed limits and put premium gas .it is passible.
Love it!
is this the 5ft bed?
Yes it is.
thank you!!! @@nickjeeps
I can’t believe that you’re getting 29mpg. You must have the 4cyl engine because my 3.5 V6 could only dream about that kind of mileage
It’s the 3.5 v6. I’m not averaging that, that’s just the mpg when I reset the computer when already at speed. I wanted to remove all variables such as how fast I accelerated I got onto the freeway, red lights, traffic and all that to compare how much the air dam affected mpg. I’m generally in the 20-23 range if it’s mostly highway or 17 if it’s mostly in town.
To the point!!❤
Great video series. How many kids were there? My 9y/o is interested in going too, but wanted to hang with other kids on the rest day.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed them. There were quite a few kids and there seems to be a growing number every year. They generally have some kid related activity on Saturday for them too.
Lol, he put the bar in backward.
You’re right! First person to mention it haha. I realized it after the video was posted but didn’t think it was worth an update.
@@nickjeeps I only knew because I did the same thing LMFAO
😂
It’d be real nice if he told us the size of the ratchet and ranch and socket and everything
4:24 - Here’s the list.
I’m an idiot my apologies, got it done thanks
No worries! Glad it worked out.
Thanks for video. How did you break that lower shock nut? Mine was not that easy.
Thankfully mine wasn’t bad I just used the wrench you see in the video. That was me breaking it loose I hadn’t pre-loosened it or anything. Hopefully yours is all wrapped up now, thanks for the comment!
Anyone know how to adjust the time these lights stay on?
I’ve been looking into that and found a few things about shortening the duration by going through the settings on your dash/steering wheel. If you wanted to make them stay on longer I think the option would be to leave your door open or hit the cab light button to keep them on while you’re back there. Not a lot of options 😬
@@nickjeeps I'm trying to shorten the time they're on. I've dug through the settings on the dash and couldn't find anything
@fightingback7185 got it… To reduce the time it’s actually through your radio. Hit the button on the side that says menu, then click setup, scroll down on left side to vehicle, vehicle customization and then lights settings. From there you can turn the interior light timer to 7.5 seconds or off assuming your defaults to 15 seconds like mine. Hope that works !
@@nickjeeps oh heck yeah! Thank you!
Thank you this is great to see someone do this for the first time just like the rest of us. Did lowering the hing pins reduce the effort required to mate the snaps on the sides? I have been struggling with mine. I have a space heater inside the truck bed to soften the canvas so I can stretch it and still havn't got them all snapped yet.
Thanks for watching I hope it was helpful. Yes lowering the pins made it a lot easier. I would say easy…but easier. Now that it’s been on I’ve taken it down several times for various reasons and it snaps back much easier then the first time.
Hey guys great video just wondering what size tires that blue 2 dr Jeep is on
Thanks! The blue Jeep is running 37x12.50-17s.
I have found my Taco's MPG computer is for more liberal than if I do the math at the pump, when filling up. I don't put too much trust in what the truck's computer tells me regarding MPG's.
Thanks for the info
Great video !
Thanks!
Kinda crazy they don't include this in some packages... these lights cost like 30$, it's embarrassing not to include it in all trims
Agreed…the wiring is already there and they install covers anyway so making the connection with the lights from factory instead of a cover seems like it’d be minimal.
Dealership charges $375-$475, installed, PRE TAX! where I’m from😭
😳
I regret starting a project to replace my control arms. This is a friggin miserable job.
Yes this ended up taking a lot longer and being a bigger pain then I thought it’d be. Now that I’ve done it I can think of some ways to speed it up but hopefully I don’t need to do it for a while.
Next time bring a jeep. 😂😂 great video.
😂
Like the ending! Show them all the videos .
Beautiful trail
