🪷 Orchids are gorgeous, but sometimes they need a little help to pollinate. So, let’s jump into it and I’ll show you how it's done!
🪷 Orchids are different from other flowers because they don’t always get pollinated by bees or the wind. If we help them out, they can create seeds and grow into new plants.
• Here's the steps on how to pollinate orchids by hand:
🌱 Look for the right parts - Orchids have a special part called the column where the pollen is stored. We need to transfer that pollen to the stigma, which is the part where the pollen should go.
🌱Get your tool ready - I’m using my finger, (you can also use a small brush) and I’m going to gently collect the pollen from one flower.
🌱Transfer the pollen - Now, we move the pollen to the stigma of another flower. You want to be gentle and careful not to damage the flowers. It’s a slow process, but it’s totally worth it!
🌱 Once the pollination happens, the orchid will start to form a seed pod. In time, that pod will grow into a new plant!
🌱 What you're going to notice now in the next day or two this flower is going to shrivel up, and start to die and then you'll notice the little stem, what the flowers connected to will start swelling and it'll slowly keep swelling until it turns to a lovely big fat plump seed pod as u see on our other orchids.
