We accidentally played cEDH with 'Gishath,Sun's Avatar'
Переглядів 9778 місяців тому
I randomly joined a EDH pod on MTGO and soon figured out that it was a competitive pod. Very scary. Very outmatched. However, due to stax pieces from one of our opponents we were able to keep up and win the game. Sorry there was no live commentary, the recording I did messed up and encoded poorly. Also MTGO replay messes up when trying to replay long games.

Lathrill, Blade of the Elves Commander Deck Tech!!
This feels more like a precon upgrade then a deck tech After reviewing the explore mechanic, I have realized the reason this feels more like an upgrade then a deck tech is because there aren't many synergies for the explore mechanic at this time so you chose to lean into beefy water elves.
Well done!
Deeproot Pilgrimage + Wanderwine Prophets is naaasty.
Bro you’re sleeping on the new Kozilek. You’re not supposed to manifest your own hand… People get pissed when you remove the spells they’re holding by turning them into 2/2s. Unless they’re a creature they’re never turning up
its basically discard??
With ulamog, the defiler: you mill an opponent for half, then the next spell resolves and they mill half again. So essentially would mill 75%
interesting!!
A note on putting the new Emrakul in, since it is legendary it will kill one of them because of the legend rule. The problem with that is its second-to-last ability you will have to sacrifice all of your creatures when the copy is killed by the legend rule. In general you get less value from using legendary creatures because of the legend rule, unless you want to use the shuffle your graveyard back into library ability found on some of them. But that's honestly fine, because they are so expensive it is nice that this commander doesn't incentivize buying them.
Derivi can be a good bant commander for Merfolk. But you didn't hear it from me.
its funny at 20mins you talk about having lightning greaves in your deck and it goes on Gishath then you talk about using duelist to give it double strike but you cant of course cause Shroud
why is this being recommended to me by youtube, just for me to be unable to see it? that sucks. not saying you shouldn't be making money via perks for donors, just sad that youtube is going "hey look at this cool video you can't see yet!"
Wait there's only 2 cons on your list. "1 for 1" and "Can't take out multiple threats" are the same thing.
There’s only 99 cards in the moxfield
How would you beat this deck ?
Wraths, combo, sweepers
Board wipes shut it down hard. You become immediately the hate target in the group as well
It's so hard to. I have my own version of this deck. Played with my group tonight, and 6 whole boardwipes later. I still won. It was great
I played a veyran deck with hakbal in the pod. I had krak and birgi out, mystical tutor a Jeska's will, krak bounced one of each back, I played jeskas will 4 times with some other spells, tutor Chandra's, played a cantrip, played Chandra's, targeting veyran who was 40/40 and dealt 40 damage to all opponents. Saying that, Hakbal didn't play anything to slow me down
@jessewills7441 was your Hakbal player doing "Counters Matter" or "Merfolk Matter"? I can attest to doing some shenanigans when my spells don't have to be merfolk focused. Usually with Hakbal and a few other lords, they can buff up by 5/5 per turn at least, letting me hold counters, bounce spells, etc. But that does sound like a hard thing to beat if you get off the ground early lol
Great video man I’m running this exact deck. Thank you so much and please never take this video down :-)
Thank you!
Other counterspells to consider that I didn't see covered in this video: Wash Away - Basically 1 mana to counter any commander, but there are a surprising number of things that cast from a place not from the hand (impulse draw for example, flashback, etc.). Spell Pierce - probably more of a CEDH card where mana curves are tighter. Glen Elendra Archmage - A bit mana intensive but it is 2 negates at baseline, and if you have synergies with +1/+1 counters, or flicker/reanimation, or something to remove the -1/-1 counters, you can do it over and over again. Mystic snake - similar to Glen Elendra archmage; mana intensive, but pair with instant speed flicker or something and it can be pretty cute. Foil - For very low budget. The alt cost is pretty steep (island + another card), but I think it's under $1. Counterflux - Mana intensive, but for decks that can't or don't run a lot of counters, this helps win counter wars.
I like Wash Away a lot to counter commanders and some other things. Spell pierce is very good!!!! Glen Elendra Archmage and mystic snake seem really good with flickering effects.
Making a Tegwyll deck that focuses around Phyrexian Altar to turn Faeries into cards and mana at instant speed, stopping by for ideas, thank you
Sounds like a cool idea for a deck!!
Good update: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, Voultborn Tyrant.
Dinosaurs on a spaceship is a sweet card!
Another good creature to add would be the new obeka, Obeka Splitter of Seconds, Because she gives you X more upkeeps for each point of combat damage that she does to an opponent.
Don’t forget that you should target yourself with the Go-Shintai of Lost Wisdom!!! Your Commander has a second ability, that might be good with a huge graveyard ;)
Plus sanctum of all can search your graveyard as well
That's a really good idea!!
I love Sythis I just have an issue where I roll over my pod with the deck :(
Sythis is strong!!
Surveil lands always etb tapped, theres a typo on the first bullet in the C tier. I think theyre better than c tier tho, being fetchable + surveil is huge
after playing them more, I agree. They really work well as card filtering pieces in formats with fetches. I like them with bounce lands so you can get more than one surveils. I think as one offs in modern or legacy decks they are great. I wouldn't play too many in a commander deck because they do always enter tapped (unless you have amulet or spelunking)
Love a good merfolk deck! Made a similar one! How powerful would you give yours on a power scale of 1 too 10?
In commander, Wash Away is busted. One mana to counter target commander.
Very limited, not worth it.
I think you're way off about Pathways. They're very high B tiers for me. Even if you have to choose a color, they're still untap lands and tap for whatever you need at the time. For them to ever shoot you in the foot, your deck has to have some crazy color requirements
I don't like them because they don't fix your mana and there is usually better options for two color decks
@@BaileeCakesMTG I disagree, let's look at the worst case scenario, your opening hand contains 1 basic forest and 2 GB pathways, You can have access to either G or B on turn 1. You won't need access to both. And you can have GG, GB or BB on turn 2. Unless your deck has a standard play pattern of T1 Thoughtseize into T2 Leaf-Crowned Visionary, your mana is perfect. Replacing pathways with a pain land, fast land or slow land each offer extremely marginal improvement with real downsides. And in situations where you do need 3 different pips by turn 2, you would run them instead because your mana requirements are so strict.
it's not like you didn't said it but i wanna reiterate that bounce land are good! they always draws you a card but with MDFC's and Channel Lands they actually draw you a spell! also, the Signet Lands can make your powerstones tap for actual usable mana, niche, but interesting
Bouncelands are so good in certain situations! Very interesting and versatile cards. However they do have their downsides.
always good to take a look at all available Dual Land Cycles
Would love a discussion about standard 😊
Thank you for this! Looking for exactly this video
Great video!! Quick question what’s you’re thoughts on the “first sliver” I’m suprised they didn’t appear here even as a commander alt
I use first sliver.. not as a commander. I use Sliver overlord as a the commander so I can get any sliver into my hand. First sliver I use to try and cascade into my combo pieces. Great deck
please run more lands
Tutor for Apex Altisaur with your Savage Order to get a one sided board wipe
!
Do you thing that Training Grounds would be good
Yes. It would also combo well with some other cards. Training grounds+Sliver Queen+Basal sliver makes infinite mana.
Also, Biomancer's Familiar is good to use
BTW Titan of Littjara has "Discard a card" because it was made specifically for Sliver Gravemother- so the idea was you'd discard a Sliver you want to encore with Gravemother. Fun fact and cool use for it!
I just built my Gishath deck and it’s become my favorite practically overnight. In your list I noticed a few all stars that didn’t show up and a few anti-synergies (perhaps it’s YT comment bait idk). But in the interest of helping decks play smooth let me offer an insight that Marauding Raptor isn’t a may ability, so it’ll kill any 2 or less toughness creatures you play, including the Dino tokens from Bonehoard Dracosaur. And speaking of Bonehoard Dracosaur will put big Dinos into exile instead of your hand for Ghalta’s ability or any other hand dumping effect.
That is a bit of a non-synergy but I think that the two cards are strong enough to play that the downsides can be overlooked
Hi, can you share the list?
Oh my god the false argument about card advantage...according to the people that repeat it drawing a card is like drawing 3 cards in a multiplayer game cause youre up 1 card against each opp😂
Didn’t even mention dormant sliver 😢 I think it’s slept on
It's good to draw cards but making all slivers have defender means they can't attack.
@@BaileeCakesMTG pick up deck sack or bounce it once you are happy with how many cards you want to draw lol
So i wana add vorinclex and doubling season to my sythis deck cause i wana get a win with the millennium calendar
interesting choices!!
How about you put warstorm surge instead of terror of the peaks?
I forgot about that card but it's probably a better fit for this deck because it isn't a dragon deck.
Came here to decide which to keep between Negate and Dovin's Veto and you put them in the same tier hahah
Negate is generally better but Dovin's Veto will be better if you are playing in a meta with a lot of counter magic
As a cEDH player it's quite interesting to see you react to bog standard plays of the format with question marks. using rituals for your rocks is pretty normal since it gives you a permanent mana advantage especially when your commanders will draw you a bunch of cards. remora is outside of winning one of the best turn one plays. tymna/kraum is the best deck in the format bcs it can adapt so easily to every kind of pod. I have played games were one of the decks is a more casual deck and its usually pretty frustrating for the other players. cEDH lives off of all decks being able to contribute on the stack in some way and one or two players not being able to do that can suck. That being said most midrange or stax cEDH decks lose to big stompy bois, but if you were against a single turbo deck they would just turn 1 win against regular commander decks since there is basically no chance of their win attempt being stopped.
lol saying how Kraum should be better when it’s the best deck in the game 😂😂😂😂😂
It seems to have a slightly underwhelming ability for how expensive it is. Again idk much about cEDH.
Sometimes just playing a deck you enjoy will be the best deck in the end.
The only people who “hate slivers” are just jealous they didn’t get their own sliver queen before the price spiked.
That cracks me up 😂
I wish I knew where my sliver binder went to over time, I had over 300 queens, among over 1000 slivers in all languages and foils and special reprints, including signed cards sad face
I just dropped 300 on mine. Looking gorgeous to building this deck or something similar
The link to the Moxfield website only has 97 maindeck cards. It seems to be cards that aren't in the video, so I don't know which cards you planned to be in there.
I don't go over every card in the deck in the video. Just a general outline for the deck's strategy and how it works
It's also very weak to flying, especially if you can't overwhelm the rest of the players early. Even if you can, you're still likely going to get chipped away by those flyers
That's true
Yes.
loved the video, my only question is this: In a pod experience, is it annoying to have to keep flipping and unflipping your cards?
Yes. Also annoying to have to keep track of when they flip.
As a new mtg player this video was extremely helpful in getting to know the type of werewolf cards that are out there and how they would be beneficial! Thanks 😊
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it!!!
No Ferocidon, Hulking Raptor or Trumpeting Carnosaur? Also is it OK with 1 PantLaza and 3 Gishath?
