I am a PNW native, can you tell me which highway your on? 26, 6, or 18? Thank you!
@@MeganWarrington yes! 26 and 6 both have lobsters above 1500’ elevation. They are out now. Good luck.
Ha, just realized you're left handed. Lol Getting ready to share with salmon fishing buddy on the Mt.
Thanks Don. Actually, I'm right handed but reel with my left hand. It's pretty common. Better control of the rod with my dominant hand.
Beautiful!
Thank you. It is a magical place.
Take what you need not what you can
Good advice. I preserve and process everything I take.
Are you doing any group forays this year? I missed it last time.
@@christinalives Yes. I have hunts starting on September 28th and going through October. Send me an email at DADventurerNW@gmail.com and I can send you a link. I have openings on October 5th and 13th. Thanks for your interest.
Never forget your sidearm while foraging. Those lobster mushroom are unpredictable. That’s how my old man went.
This guy is doing the right thing. The Oregon coast can be wild when you’re way out back in the woods and that’s a firearm for a self defense mostly against bears and cats.
Not trolling but when is the last time you ran into a black bear or brown bear? If you were charged what weapon did you use to defend yourself? Again this is a honest question and I would also like to hear anyone else's story. Cougar stories also if they were 45 plus.
What does the Oregon ‘s the poison oak look like?
@@SherryXShi it has sets of three leaves and grows along the ground. Pretty easy to identify, but it’s not common here.
How do you cook it? I just found few when I passed by one of the trail in OR.
Awesome tips! I found my first lobster this year and I'm hooked!
Thanks for watching and your comment. Congratulations on your lobster find! Welcome to the mushroom hunting addiction!
Absolutely awesome! Thanks for putting out another cool vid. How was it for table fair?
Thank you so much. The sea bass was awesome. Looked and tasted like Alaskan Halibut.
Very cool!!
Nice fish!😳 that thing was huge and looked like tacos.🤣🤣
Thank you. It would make great tacos for sure. Great eating fish.
Great find!! There's lots to be found on Mt.Hood too🍄
Those are some happy little water weasels. (to be fair: im also happy munching on crawdads)
I never go in the woods in the summer but i'm thinking about changing my mind. I heard those mushrooms were freaking awesome. I'm in the Piedmont of North Carolina though. I think the mushrooms in this state will make your babies be born naked.
Great to see a family of men doing men things
Thank you so much. You made my day!
Amazing captaining and amazing gaff shot by the deckhand
Exactly.
I can feel it in my arms just watching.
Yes! it was an awesome fight for sure.
Damn. They became an activist organization and removed all their maps. Typical Oregon, can’t have nice things.
@@doppelganger8252 apparently that’s what I’m hearing too. They were supposed to host those files again, but not yet. Give the OnX Hunt app a try. It has all of the tree overlays built in.
Was this near swan island?
Beautiful fish
Me and a friend went up past foster to look for these lobster mushrooms and we got swarmed and stung by wasps 😂 I'm gona try the coastal range, any tips on some locations by newport?
I find these up in cascadia, im considering trying the coastal range, it seems like you would get more moisture from the ocean there, i never even thought about checking under the moss that looks raised, thats a great tip, i appreciate the videos you make!
@@josephcrust7013 thanks for watching and your comment. The coast range, closer to the beach would be great right now. Give it a try.
How deep is the water for the snorkeling area?
@@Readersrock2 we took a boat to the snorkeling area but it was 15’ maximum depth around the reef. Great snorkeling.
Tank
@@adamsbikingadventure3581 yes sir! It was a beast!
Thanks again for your awesome videos! I would love to see a video about finding foraging locations at the coastal area. I feel like the mountain forest are so large and a bit easier to know where to head, where coast seems so scattered/such few forest areas. This time of year I am thinking closer to the coast and then in the true fall toward the cascade range, but I am really just not sure.
Thank you for watching and your comments. I do have some videos from hunting very close to the coast, and I can make some more. You are correct that this time of year, closer to the coast and at lower elevations are the go to spots until we get rain. You can also send me an email at DADventurernw@gmail.com. I can point you in the right direction. Happy Hunting.
@@DADventurerNW Thanks! I really appreciate your responsiveness to all your comments and educational videos.
@@MsEmberg You bet. Thanks for your support.
What gps do you use? Can anyone help me out
@@jordancollings2889 great question. I have OnX Hunt app on my phone as my primary gps app. It’s awesome and affordable. I have a back up Garmin 64St, also great but expensive. In my opinion, OnX Hunt is the way to go.
@@DADventurerNW Thank you! I did some researching last night about the garmin 22x. It is basic enough for me that it could work. Id rather use an app though.
@@jordancollings2889 I'd give the OnX Hunt app a try. They have a free 7 day trial.
@@DADventurerNW Will do, thank you! Season has already been great here in Northern California, no doubt you will have a great season as well!
@@jordancollings2889 that’s awesome! Someday I’ll hunt in Northern California again! You have some great areas down there. Good luck.
What are your tips for storing or processing them after finding a haul like that? Whenever I find a good amount, I feel bad that some go to waste because I just can't eat that much.
@@coryg7051 thanks for watching and your great questions. Lobsters dehydrate very well. I clean them and slice them in quarter inch strips, then dehydrate them on 115 degrees until they are brittle. Store them in vacuum sealed bags or mason jars. You can also slice and sauté them to about 75% doneness, then let them cool, vacuum seal and freeze.
They refrigerate for months if you want - they will produce spores during that time (not to be confused with mild)
*mold
@@joeythemorgue I'm not sure what you are referring to. Could by the mycelium spores on the older mushrooms.
Fresh forest lobster
@@tristinbulko6786 yes they are! Thanks for watching!

Anyone else see the four leaf clover? 🍀
@@PhilF86 wow! I missed that one!
Nope. Those are 3 lobed leaves of the SHAMROCK often confused in pop culture as the "lucky" 4 leaf clover.
A nice find. Were bouts are u and what is the species?
Portland, Oregon area, in the Coast Mountain Range. These are lobster mushrooms. Thanks for watching and your question.
Have you ever found lobsters on the east side of Tillamook Forest and not the coastal side?
@@crystalrobbins5219 yes! Lots of lobsters on the east side of the coast range! After a good rain, the lobsters will be out there!

Gee...Cannon Beach, OR ?
@@racheltestchannel227 Bingo! Cannon Beach Indeed!
Every time I go to Cannon Beach, I go find the herd and say hi! They like this one yard, on the right, heading up to Ecola State Park. So if you can't find them on the beach or in town, head up to Ecola. I fell in love with them back in March when we took a vacation to Cannon Beach. I also fell in love with Cannon Beach. I'd never stayed there. Just quick walk to Haystack, take a couple of pictures, and then leave. By far my favorite coastal town now!
@@crystalrobbins5219 I love that place too. Great beach, cool restaurants!
@@DADventurerNW for sure! We kept finding our way eating on 2nd Street. Lol! Cannon Beach Smokehouse was my favorite!
Kapow!
Would this fit the 16.5 inch barrel 223 American ranch? It’s a Rugar American action right? Should it should fit is my guess? Just wanted second option before I buy, my only concern is if the mag well will fit an 30rd at mag
Good questions. I purchased my chassis from Optics Planet. Their customer service is great and they would be able to give you all of the details on if it would fit your rifle. They can also connect you to Trybe Defense for additional questions. (I'm not sponsored by either company, but a big fan of their great service)
This will not work. The .223 versions of the Ruger American use either a rotary mag or AR-15 mag. This uses AICS magazines and using .223 AICS mags with the Ruger American is a pain in the butt. The Magpul Hunter STANAG stock uses regular AR-15 magazines
@@TheApostateTapir well, these chassis are rifle and caliber specific. You may be able to find another manufacturer who makes a chassis for your rifle. I hope you find one.
@@DADventurerNW Oh yeah, there are a few. MDT makes the LSS XL that's AR compatible. Sharps Bros makes the Heatseeker in AR compatible as well.
@@TheApostateTapir that’s cool. I like those chassis but they are a lot more expensive.
I planted some Juane de Flamme tomatoes this year. Can't wait to see how they taste. Nice video
@@swannoir7949 thank you! They are my new favorite. A very unique and deep flavor. You will enjoy them.
I found someone for the first time today. I own 35 acres of property and almost all of it is wooded so I'm starting my mushroom collecting today. I got almost exactly 5lbs in an hour and I only looked over a quarter of the property.
@@alsinakiria WOW! That’s amazing. Thats a lot of property! How great is it to hunt mushrooms on your own private property! Congrats!
@@DADventurerNW I do have to worry about sustainability but I don't have to worry about other people at all which is nice. I know how much there is and I know how many I picked so I don't have to worry about over harvesting. I just pick enough for my friends and family and that's it.
@@alsinakiria that’s is a great attitude and sustainability plan. As long as you don’t rip up the soil or remove the trees, the mushrooms will come back every year. If you find any old lobsters that are past prime, consider spreading them in other areas around your property as new lobsters may come in those areas next year.
@@DADventurerNW I found some that I thought were fine but definitely were not when I got them home. I'll take them out with me tomorrow and spread them around.
@@alsinakiria that’s a great plan. I do that often when I’m in the forest, especially with lobsters and chicken of the woods. It works.
