Shower valve & handle replacement. Easy beginners guide
Omg thank you!! My house has this exact shut-off valve. You are the only video that I've seen showing this type of old valve.
Thanks, I’m glad it help you out
Thanks! After doing lil research of my own I’ve found the pull out and turn handles are the 1225s and this confirmed! I’d mention to some people who looking to change cartridge but isn’t this model may have service valves and not need to shut entire house off.
Glad you enjoyed it, I wish more valves would have individual shut off’s on them, it’s very convenient
My cartridge did not come out at all so all the pipes had to be cut. What a headache
Sorry to hear that. I’ve run into projects like that myself, and they definitely are a headache.
Nice work, friend. I was a little anxious about this diy, because it's plumbing, and I don't want my family to get angry with me because we don't have water for a day or two until a plumber can get here. But it was pretty straight-forward. Mine is push / pull, picked up the 1225 Moen cartridge from Lowes, which comes with the little white cap tool for rotating the old cartridge to make it easier to pull out. Another video claimed the piece is worthless, but it worked fine to loosen it, and the old cartridge pulled right out. Honestly, the hardest part was getting the face plate back in place (because of what some knuckle head did before) and caulked. One-finger operation now- no more worry that the pipe in the wall will give when I pull it out. Thank you.
You’re welcome, I’m glad you were able to do it, save money and be the hero
Pro Tip #1 should have been to close the drain or put a towel down over it so that the screws or that pin don't fall down the drain. You're welcome.
Yes, I have come close to loosing screws down the drain, that’s why I carry a magnet in my truck.
U could have been working at my shower. Same tile and everything
This is great !! Wish I saw this before I tackled it myself.:) My hot/cold seem to be reversed now and I can't get my new locking pin in smh
Glad you enjoyed it. Here is a link that will guide you through the process to reverse the hot and cold solutions.moen.com/Article_Library/How_to_Reverse_Hot_and_Cold_for_a_1225_Cartridge_in__Shower
Why make a useless video that actually doesn’t work when the cartridge won’t come out but in fact breaks inside. This is not straight forward what so ever
Sorry you’re having trouble with yours,
Don’t be an ass. It’s not a useless video just because yours didn’t work that way..
Thanks
I was a very informative video, thank you. Next time I would encourage you to clean off all the mold from underneath though because some of us are a little bit meticulous, and I couldn't get the residual mold under that faceplate out of my head!😅
Glad you enjoyed most of it
I'm just doing this and got hung up on getting the clip to fit back in at 2:10. The question is "how far do I push the new cartridge in? I had to take some measurements. From front end of the brass valve housing that the cartridge slides into, it is .250" (1/4") back to the clip slot. It is only about .125" (1/8") from where you want the clip to the front of the plastic ears. That means you have to push the ears in past the brass about "125" (1/8") to have it seated to the right depth. And it must be seated absolutely vertically for the clip to slide down over the plastic ears.
Typically the cartridge will only go in far enough for the clip to be installed, if you’re having issues, double check you have correct replacement cartridge by doing a side by side comparison. Make sure nothing is preventing it from being properly seated, and yes the cartridge must be in the right position for the clip to be installed
Tip #5 make sure the old cartridge didn’t break. If the cartridge won’t go back in, look in the hole it goes in. Mine had a bunch of bits still inside. What a bear but it’s all done.
Yes, I have not had that happen to me, so thanks for the tip
My hot water pressure is very low only in 1 tub. Rest of house is fine. Could it be cartridge? Its moen as well.
It’s possible, and the cheapest place to start. but it’s more likely to be another issue causing low pressure. I’d first ask if the cold is also low on that fixture? Or any where else in that bathroom? What kind of pipe is it plumbed with? Is that room an addition to the original house? It could be corrosion inside the pipe making the diameter, smaller and causing low pressure. But it’s hard to say without being there to troubleshoot.
Thank you for the video! One time I changed the same cartridge in my bath tap, and it was successful. But I couldn't take out the old cartridge in my hubby's bath tap today. I took off the pin, but the cartridge was stuck halfway when I tried to pull it out. I was able to push the cartridge back, but not pull out. I checked for more locking pins and found no one. Fortunately, after all of these operations, when I assembled a faucet back, the tap with the old cartridge stopped leaking :-)) Do you have an idea, what was wrong? I'm afraid to apply too much strength in the plumbing works to avoid more damage. I was pulling the cartridge out pretty firmly
Great question, sorry you’re having trouble getting it out. Try soaking the cartridge with some WD-40 or a silicone spray, and thy using this puller tool: amzn.to/4cUNz27 Hope this helps, good luck
Thank you for the response! Yes, I thought about WD-40 lube, but after I assembled back the faucet. Thank you once again for the video!
@@veragurskaya637 The cartridge puller is definitely the trick! Mine was stuck too so I ordered the puller from Amazon for $15 bucks and it was exactly what I needed
If it still dripping what can it be the problem?
If the new valve doesn’t stop the dripping, there may be damage to the housing where the cartridge seals are, if that’s the case, replacing it may be the only option, I’d inspect it carefully for damage
Best video on youtube! thank you
Thank you. I’m glad you liked it
Жаль, что не показали как удалять отработанный картридж.
I’m not sure what the translation here is, but I hope it means you liked it
Bought one and it broke on the very first use
That’s a real bummer. I’ve heard a few people say that, thankfully the one I have had for awhile now has worked great in tight spots, perhaps you’ll find another one on sale and decide to give it another shot…
Yeah orienting the clip........
I haven't been able to insert "the clip" after inserting the new MOEN cartridge... Any idea how to get it in?
@Tao-ji2sb assuming you have the correct cartridge, and there is no debris in the way and you lubed the o-rings. I’d guess perhaps it’s not in all the way or it’s in to far and needs to be pulled out just a tiny bit. Hope this helps
"making sure the holes in the cartridge line up with the holes in the valve" your sticking a valve into a straight pipe. what frickin holes are we lining up pray tell?
In the back of the brass valve housing that you put the cartridge into, there is a hole on the left and a hole on the right. This particular cartridge doesn’t have an alignment notch
thanks for your reply. new one leaks like old one. must be some hard water buildup in there. @@scorpionbuilds
If there is some buildup inside the brass housing, you can try using some 120 grit sandpaper wrapped around a dowel rod, but be careful
finally got a real plummer.thank you for the advice@@scorpionbuilds
You’re welcome
I've ordered this shit and had to try it yesterday, it's horrible! There is to less power to bring out the silicone properly. Throw your money out of your window is a better invest
Bummer yours didn’t work out. I haven’t had any problems with mine, but generally I don’t use silicone, mine has worked well with high grade caulking for exterior doors, windows and around toilets.
You didn't mention the "notch" on the stem and which way it should be oriented, or testing the valve in the proper orientation to ensure cold water and hot water is working properly. Has something to do with the stem notch.
I have 2 for 6 months working with them every day
It’s nice for those tight spots
Great video.. Can I change the o ring itself? Thank you have a blessed day and be blessed
The whole assembly is pretty cheap, but you could contact the manufacturer to see if they’ll sell just the o rings
@@scorpionbuilds They do. It's a kit of all of the rubber parts including the ones that go over the hot and cold openings. But if it were me and I took the time to take all this apart, I'd absolutely just replace the whole cartridge. Hey good work man, thanks for the tip
I agree, the cartridges too cheap to wanna just replace the O-rings. Glad you enjoyed the video.
It’s not wood it’s laminate
It’s not hardwood, but it does have a wooden core.
that looks like a poorly installed floor, propably also a laminate floor
A lot of flooring manufacturers had problems with the locking designs, that tended had problems in high traffic areas. I see it all the time. Often it can be attributed to improper floor prep. In this case someone moved the flooring from a different room, and broke off the lock. And it is a laminate floor with a wooden core
Yes the works but hope is only one piece an is at the beginning of the row or and other wise you gonna have a party going on 😅 an be using a lot of tape better of removing the baseboard an puting a spacer at the and
It is more difficult in the middle, but typically you can move more then one board in a single row at a time
Use a rubber mallet, its faster
That and the shoe didn’t work
I just kicked them back in place.
Tried that first, but it didn’t work on this floor
This isn't a harwood floor. It's floating laminate. This process works well, but often, you will have to repeat the process several times because you are just moving the gap to another location. If you can hide it under a baseboard, then you are fortunate.
Correct
That's not a wood floor. It's a cheap laminate floor!
It not a hardwood floor, but it does have a wooden core
Creating a gap on the other end of the plank you moved. Idoit
I just use the sole of my shoe
Ya, I tried that but it wouldn’t move at all
Now you have another gap in next piece😅
It’s actually hidden underneath the baseboard
And now there's a gap on the other side.
It’s actually hidden under the baseboards
"if you have a gap in your wood floors" That's not wood floor....
It’s not hardwood floors… but it does have a wooden core
Wood?
Not hardwood, but it does have a wooden core.
Repeat on the Crack created in the board behind you
Wash rinse and repeat
@@scorpionbuilds yep, lol
Hey Buy a Roomba
Yessir, this is how it’s done!!
Jesus christ, these idiots.... use a fucking rubber head mallet or hit the face of the board in the direction you want it to move. Or better yet, rubber soled shoes and kick at the face of the board, itll slide just fine.
Jst kick it
I’m wondering how many people saw this video, and then tried this on their real hardwood floors….
Promo sm 🎊
What they need is long right angle nozzles that can go on any gun for getting behind tight spaces. Maybe they exist no idea?
Never seen one, but a good idea
no links for the speical tool....😢😢😢
amzn.to/3CYZewb Sorry, I thought I had put it in the description,
@@scorpionbuildsyou did lol
Thanks for the tip. We just installed 2000 sq ft so I’m sure we will have some come loose.
You are star, now tell me how would I fix the gap that is in the middle of 8m and 6m wide floor 😂😂😂
Try this with alien tape
This is why u acclimatize the flooring in the building u are installing it in so the product can get used to the temperature and the humidity. Open the boxes and leave them sitting there for at least 24 hours prior to installation and you won't have that problem
Flooring definitely needs to acclimate to the home that it will be installed in. I find a lot of times the floor has not been properly leveled and causes too much stress on the joints.
That doesnt work on wood floors. Works on laminate or click vinyl planks.
