B'roque Cowgirl Homestead
Приєднався 16 лис 2016
Just sharing bits and pieces of my life in Southeast Texas. Chickens, Nigerian Dwarf milk goats, beef cattle, quail, gardening and home canning. We have been on this journey 35 years, on land that has been in the family since 1850, 8 generations on this land. I guess you could say we have been homesteading before homesteading was a thing. Our kids are grown and out of the house, so I am having the time of my life with my husband, my garden, and our critters.

How I Make Yogurt - So Simple
Yogurt making is so simple if you have a cabinet style dehydrator. Bring milk to 180° , with milk in your jars, in a pot of water. Take the jars out, let cool to 110° then add a heaping tablespoon of yogurt as culture. Incubate 10 to 12 hours at 110°. Then refrigerate.

Bringing the Bee Hive Home
Переглядів 3614 днів тому
In a previous video a couple days ago, we put this hive of bees in the box. They were under a cattle feeder. we left them there from Saturday morning until Sunday evening at dusk. We did go check on the Saturday evening late and all the bees had gone in the hive. So Sunday evening at dusk, close the entrance with a piece of hardware cloth, and bring them home. Early early Monday morning, set th...
Pulling the Waterwell - Installing New Pump
Переглядів 4114 днів тому
This is our daughter's well. We thought the pump was burned up. But it wasn't, it was a brand new pump that only lasted a few hours after it was installed. Probably nothing wrong with it, but we replaced it with a new pump. We will test the pump we pulled and keep for a spare if it's still good. Thankfully our Son in Law has access to the crane truck. Making the job much easier than pulling it ...
Moving A Beehive Into A Bee Box
Переглядів 3421 день тому
These bees didn't choose the best location for their hive. Our Aunt and uncle are constantly dumping cubes for the cows in the feeder. So not ideal for them or the cows. So we went early in the morning while it's relatively cool, and put their comb and brood into frames in a Bee Box Hive. Once they are settled in, we will close the entrance and move them after dark to our house. #honeybees #sav...

Gah I want a dairy cow now! I know you use goats milk, but dang this is so easy. I just mentioned you and your yogurt in the dehydrator in the live Friday! And that piggy timer I love!
@YogiHollowFarm I had made this video last week and just hadn't gotten it all edited. LOL thought it was funny you mentioned it in your live when I had it waiting to get out. I love my piggy timer too. 🥰 Every time I set it I think of you and your piggies.
Best sound ever!
Simple simple
Not enough water lol
@billyjones6626 The water was above the jars by an inch, this is after I lifted the rack up, when processing time was finished. The rack lifts and hangs on the sides of the canning pot.

Lol , I do that also , just got some purple heart plants lol . Actually dug up some on side of a road , they are already spreading. Mrs josette Montgomery County, Texas 🙏
Best sandwicchhh ever 😊😊😊😊 Missing them already .
Lol 😆 🤣 ❤️
So cute & funny lol 😊
Great content ,Mrs.Gwen 👍👍 With all the homestead channels I watch ,You are the 1st to actually talk about what you actually get from each goat 🐐, how much for the cow etc... Absolutely GREAT content 👍👍 Thats a horrible shame about what you got at auction , dang . Id be keeping them myself also for meat . Especially with the price of meat right now ! I truly enjoyed you sitting down and explaining and being honest about what it costs, how much you get daily Darn this video should have thousands of views 👍👍👍👍👍 I liked this new path you took today 😊 I love learning even at almost 59 lol. Mrs josette Texas 🙏
@jtharp9265 Thank you so much for the lovely comment. I had had this on my mind for a while to do a sit down video and just talk about it. So many people don't know. And so many people jump off into a dairy cow with no experience. That part scares me. For them, and their children and grandchildren that may be in close proximity during milking. Goats are so much more economical for a small homestead. I can feed all my goats (12 at the moment} for less than what one cow would cost to feed.
Awesome! I love the churner and the jar that she uses to do this, too. Thank you for sharing! 😊👍💗
@MtnGrandma The churn was bought all together. It belongs to a neighbor, she let her borrow it.
Oh my goodness she is the cutest!!! 😊💗
I LOVE the way you make yogurt and I'm gonna try this. Looks so much easier than how I usually do it! Thanks for sharing! 😊👍💗
@MtnGrandma And only one spoon to wash. hehe
God bless yall 🙏 Pure honey , what a great job yall did ..thank you for sharing how yall got them back home . What a blessing, being self sufficient is a must right now . Please keep us updated on yalls bee's . Thank you an have a nice weekend. Josette Montgomery County, Texas 🙏
Absolutely the best way , having family to help one another. What a big save 👍👍👍👍👍👍 God bless you all . Mrs j Texas 🙏 🙏 🙏 ❤
Sure does look simple. Thank you for sharing 🙂
@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu It is simple. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely wonderful 👍👍👍 Yall had to be so darn hot , but a great blessing to have those bee suits , You and your husband work so great today , God bless you both and your whole family 🙏🙏🙏🙏 Mrs J Texas 🙏 🙏 🙏
Gwen, you're so blessed. Wonderful, precious time you're spending with your daughter making homemade butter 🙏🙏❤❤❤ Josette Texas 🙏

I tried the link for the recipe but it's not working just wanted to let you know. I'm gonna figure it out and make some this weekend.
@@aftec2001 Thank you for letting me know, I fixed the link
@@BroqueCowgirlHomestead thank you so much I'll let you know how it turns out. As an aside my family and friends cannot get enough of the cowboy candy I make with your recipe. It is an all time keeper.
Aren't they cute 🥰
That’s great! Love it
That's funny! 😂 They're not too sure about the new kid. Rub some bacon grease on it and they'll play with it. 😂 Have a wonderfully blessed weekend! Big hugs and big love! ✌️💖🙏🙌🇺🇲🕊️🤜
@@jesusislord2457 bahahahah at bacon grease. That would do it!!!
Lol.. There adorable 🥰🥰
Oh Chevy! You’re so cute!
wow thats awesome
Now that is some rain!
👍👍
Great info Gwen! Lots of responsibility for dairy animals. Especially cows. I’ve decided this is not what we need. Sure I want cheese and some delicious raw cream, but I don’t feel good about a cow or a dairy goat on our limited space. We have decided to stick with pigs! lol
@YogiHollowFarm Can you find milk/cream locally to buy? Or barter for?
Thanks Gwen. Great info. Your girls are doing great. Yea the sales here are selling cheap too. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed night.
@HolmansHomestead Thanks for watching. Have a great night
✌️💖🙏🙌🇺🇲🕊️🤜
Hello Gwen. Great information. I have never been around any cows before. 🐄 Have a blessed day. 🐮😊
@BrokenHeartsMinistry_777 Thanks Gail 😊
You don't need one but I miss my girl I learned so much I'm blessed to have the opportunity even for a little while I do miss her she would stand pretty still :) Never kicked me She would follow me or walk beside me 💞 I miss my goats too but I never even got the chance to milk them Maybe one day I will have the chance again 💞🙏
@wildedibles819 I hope you get a chance to have a dairy animal again. I just know a vow would be too much milk for me to deal with. And alot of people.may not realize just how much it can add up to be, in bolumn of milk as well as monetary expense.
@BroqueCowgirlHomestead oh ya a cow is a huge expense and takes up a lot of room I can't have her at all in town But if rules were different in town there's enough room for a few goats and you can use the poop right in a garden no need for a huge poop pile Our cow did not have a calf at first but we soon got her one it was so much milk I made cheese to deal with the amount of milk I was getting you have to do something with it Then 9 month plus weight for her to get bred and have another calf
Very true! Lots to think about before getting animals. Doing a lot of research
Absolutely gorgeous!
That’s beautiful!
Beautiful sight! ❤
Gosh you all have had the rain this summer. We have had some downpours the past few nights with storms, but we have been pretty dry so the rain is a welcome sight. Yall have a blessed night
@HolmansHomestead this was a welcomed rain. It was starting to get dry. By this time of summer we are usually begging for rain.
Thank you for your expertise, and clear direction. I want to share a tip you may want to add in the future. I learned to add 1 tbl. of clear gel powder to cold brine. It will thicken the liquid a bit.
Nothing beats fresh cream!
@YogiHollowFarm The Churn BEATS the fresh cream into butter hehehehe
It was a Blessing to wash the Pollen and all
Did you notice this went from east to west? 💖
When I checked radar it was moving in from the gulf...south to north. But it did have a little westerly direction. Not unusual for here.
Lord I can’t recall the last time we saw it rain that hard! Love this
