My background is in horticulture, medical, biology and construction.
Worked on and ran golf courses 20+ years before getting seriously injured in 2020 at work.
I fell in love with working on golf courses because of my hearing issues since 5, it caused communicate problems with people.
My injury caused me to get 2 back surgeries, along with massive damage to my left leg.
Before 2nd surgery and before my dad got sick passing away few monrhs later, he built this for me December 2021.
Was looking to try different farming ideas before getting hurt, aquaponics one of them with hopes of recovering more.
November 2024, realization crashing down. I wasn't going to be able to create a business, I am limited and constant pain.
Trying to pass on information as I learn it and discover myself
I hope this gives ideas or just listening to.

Brief breakdown of the system. I had old pool pump and liner. I bought the 2x12 boards, the cube, the pvc pipe the O2 aerator pump. The initial cost of system was under $350.00 USD. O2 Aerator pump was about $80.00 USD amd was most expensive one piece of the system. The 275 gallon cube was $60.00 USD.

Temperature is right for breeding cycle. Crawfish can bred several times a year. I am experimenting on several things. Different plants, different fish, crawfish, and eventually fresh water shrimp. I am just trying to share my little bit of knowledge and experience with this experiment. How did the aphid problem occur? Part of the appeal of aquaponics I would assume, is the separation from parts of nature, such as pests. Though maybe that can also be a downside, if one grows flowers closed off from bees for instance. Not that one 'can't. just that problems pop up, and solutions. Sorry to hear about the accident and back issues, it is frustrating when events beyond our control limit our paths in life.
I had an outside garden, before it got cold I went outside and plulled some plants. I believe i brought the aphids in with me. I am getting some of the spiders on there now. I use spiders to keep bigs under control. I have a video called The Battle. Talking about some bug issues and how I have inside house spiders.
Do you use the shell molts for anything?
I leave them innwith crawfish. They'll consume them to help with future moltings. I also will put shrimp and lobster shells in after boiling to pull salts.
