Piano Improvisation │ 01 │ Well-Tuned Piano Scale

Piano improvisation in La Monte Young's 7-limit Just Intonation scale. It is first time I am trying to use it, probably feels more random. I am using Radical Piano from Reason as vst in Bitwig. To me it is a nice sounding piano with lot of control over character and decent expressivity, but it does not support mpe / mts-esp / or proper pitch bend setup (no way to set the range… it is fixed to /...

I recently bought some GRP modules: VCOs, 24DB Filter, 12DB SVF FIlter and Fixed Filter Bank. Not sure why they are not more visible in the eurorack comunity...those modules are just gems. The VCOs are analog full featured vcos in small HP size (by functionality I would compare them to E300 with some additional feature set), with octave switch, continuous frequency tuning over -1 octave and fin...

I am trying to make a perfect small case for myself. I was looking for a dedicated noise source, This little Verbos fixed filter comes as a scaled down Bark filter (3 bands of bark in 1 band and no vc), really amazing as a noise source but also as a filter. Another great modul creator is GRP, well known for desktop full featured synthesizers, but they have an awesome line of eurorack modules th...

Wow, that's sounds great. Love everything about it.
@@Myuzak Thank you for the feedback and listening ☺️
underrated!
orgazmic :)
That's really really good. Ps I love the hydrasynth as well! Still a fairly new owner, making evolving patches is the best :)
Thnak you for feedback and checking it :). Yep hydra is great for semi generative patches and also for creating all sort of sounds, it is packed with possibilities! I still enjoy it, have not used it for some time now, but it is a keeper
The beat seem very off the melodic sequence, this is a bit disturbing ! But very nice sound from the prophet tho !! :)
Thank you for the feedback! I will try to focus on this next time I do something similar
so underated! really hope you get some followers!
Thank you, it is great to get feedback and know it is worth checking/listening to my creations, that actually someone likes it. It is definitely not my main goal to have big audience, I do what I do as I enjoy it, but knowing if it is good or bad or any kind of feedback is always great and welcome for having the opportunity to move forward. Probably to get more followers I would need to be more active, be more present on internet or even do some live jams outside and maybe also create a type of content from which people can learn something useful. Time to time I am thinking about these things, maybe one day I will try :)
Great work. What mode/settings are you using on the E352?
never mind, looked on computer and can see display better--morph/detune. Nice.
Very reminiscent of TD's 'Zeit'.
Thank you for the listen and feedback. I know Tangerine Dreams, but I heard the Zeit album yesterday for the first time thanks to your comment and very much enjoyed the listen, thank you for mentioning it :)
mindblowing demo
Thank! Glad you enjoyed the listen
Wow!!! Awesome!!! 😄
Thanks! :)
Overall thoughts on the Hydrasynth? (quality, features, price, etc.)
Hi John I summarised it in commet to rickhopkinson under this video, will copy paste it here :). But the quick answer quality - feels solid, firm, heavy, not plasticy or wobly... features - more than usually needed ( depends on your specific needs, best to check manual or videos that go over the features in details ), price - for what you get it is right from my point of view. One big benefit to me is it is basicly little to no menu dive, very clever and performance oriented system. What would make it even better would be possibility to add own/custom wavetables. If you have any specific question do not hasitate to ask I will try to give you my thoughts. copy paste from my other reply: It is a great synth, with immediate UI, basically no menu dive, performance oriented with extensive modulation possibilities. Useful for any type of sounds or semi generative patches. Supports microtonality. Also build quality is great, I hesitated at first a bit as I've red some people had issues ( software and/or hardware ), but it was probably just bad luck, so I can overall recommend it. It is my first keyboard synth and keeper. For the price you get a lot of sound variety. It feels very digital / clean at times, but there are ways to compensate for it + 2.0 firmware adds nice functionality to replicate analog imperfections further and to me it adds nice touch / possibility of how to do patches.
This is one of the best demos I've heard of the E352. Normally when people play it, it has a digital timbre that sounds like it's being played through a metal tube. I don't hear that here. Is that tubey sound only on certain settings or does the reverb smear it out?
Thank you for your feedback! I think it is due to use of low frequencies (where the digital feel is less noticable) + E440 filters help + combined with the reverb. In general it can feel pretty digital/clean when used "raw", but I think it depends most on the used wavetable, settings, modulation and filtering.
I love this 🙏🏻👌 dark and sounds ace! I’ve subbed…
Thanks Rick! Checking your work, also great explorations and soundscapes! Subbed :)
@@trymarud Hi mate 🙂 Thank you very much!! Very much appreciated... lets keep in touch if you want 🙂
Hi again 👍 this sounds great. I love it.
Ace! Hydra synth is on my want list!

@@trymarud Thank you very much for the great reply and info on it … I appreciate it 👍 I think you’ve now made me even more determined to save for one 👌… it’ll take some patience but will be worth it. I make ambient and dark ambient music for my channel so I think it will complement my existing synths really well… it’ll probably become my flagship 😋💪. Currently got the Korg Wavestate, Opsix and Minilogue XD. And recently the Behringer 2600. I came from a place where I didn’t have much gear, so I’m very grateful for what I have… but this synth will be an ace addition, with the wave folding/wave shaping stuff. I think I’ll love having 5 LFOs too as I want to make forever evolving sounds. Patience be the virtue. I’m off to check your channel for more Hydrasynth videos 👌
cool bubbling, hypnotic 👍
Damn these are amazing!
Awesome sounds! I love the soundscape you created!
Thank you for the feedback, glad you like it :)
Amazing performance! Do you sell patches at all? This patch sounds incredible.
Thank you for the feedback :). I have not thought about creating patches for sell. The reason is, there is lot of great free and payed patch banks out there and also I do not have enough of patches to create reasonably sized packs / banks. If I will have enough patches in future I might just give it for free
Clear, interesting textures. Nice evolution. Reverb/delay, which are often a modular trap, are handled with care. Bravo.
Thank you for the feedback :), I use lot of reverb most of the time, but trying to use less lately, it is definitely for the best in most situations
Wow; dramatic or what... 😊
Must say I have lot of fun with these two :), the knob per function and routing limitations are actually rather "more" than "less"
@@trymarud 😉
Absolutely love this. Getting in to modular via VCV rack, and this vibe is just perfect.
Thank you for checking it :). When I patched it I got Half-LIfe vibe, from there the Xen name, I hope it is close / fitting. For me everything started basically with VCV Rack and Omri Cohen, helped me a lot and pretty fast with basics. Omri does a great job with his free learning material and music. And it is the best way to find out if you enjoy modular and find your direction / type of modules you want in your possible future first rack build. Before that I used Reason in a kind of modular way...but it was...well...not ideal and Reason itself is kind of not going forward for a long time... For Modular check also Bitwig Poly Grid if you did not already.
Grungy as heck😎🤘
love it~ you uploaded interesting drone. have agreat day-
Thank you for listening and feedback, have a great day too!
Very nice with a well balanced structure !!! 👏
Thank you for checking it and feedback!
Excellent! Love that reverb.. 😍 What's on Reverb duty?
Thank you! It is FX Aid with Transmitter (Earthquaker inspired) algorithm. But I am adding just touch of Valhalla Super Massive in DAW on top of everything in here. There is also variable/modulated speed of delay ( 4MS DLD) on some of the sounds panned left and right to make it more randomised/echoing.
@@trymarud Wow! Thanks m'friend 👍
you are welcome :)@@Probbie
Wow, that's a journey.. 👌
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Omg ya man, brilliant. Did you just upload a vocal sample in wave edit? So compelling, this is awesome
Hi, thanks for stopping by! Yes it is just vocal sample loaded in wave edit. There is lot of possibilities with E352!
Great, thanks. I have to try this!@@trymarud
@@wilshire1200 You are welcome! I really like the versatility as aside from being one of the best wavetable vco it can be a sample player, sort of granular...Wanted it since I first started my modular journey. So sad there will be no more Paul's creations in future. He created quality oriented and creative modules.
I feel similarly. I got it early on, and it's the only Synth Tech module I have, and feel like I not only chose a great one but have a little piece of history. Also there's something nice about feeling like you have room to grow with a module, particularly one that goes well beyond it's stock potential by the addition of things, wavetables, etc. Your video added another layer to that. I'd tried the sample import early on but didn't 'get it'. I'm motivated to give another go no though, haha. Cheers! @@trymarud
@@wilshire1200 Precisely said :). For the sample use, I am rather loading it directly to wavetable bank instead of native "sample" playback functionality and running envelope or lfo to modulate position of wavetable "sample", gives that possibility of variable "sample" play speed, direction and "granularity" effect when mixed with some "erratic" voltages". It is also great that you can load up any sound to wavetable bank and then edit it manualy on top of it. Infinite possibilities! I actualy got also his E300 vcos and e440 filter as my first voices/filter and after he closed the shop I found the dual morphing LFO seccond hand. One day I wanted to build his MOTM system, but this will now never happen I suppose :(. Another great modules I stumbled upon now is GRP Synthesizer, they have rather "basic" analog line of modules, but very good one, VCOs feels to me like same quality, almost identical functionality as Synth Tech, less hp and octave switch. Have a great time with further E352 exploring! I need to put in to it also more time! Cheers!
Love a drone... Nice one m'friend 😊
Thanks Probbie, glad you like it! :)
Dark and deep! 👌
Nice, they really leveled up the deluge with all the new functionality it's becoming a formidable groove box
It is a great device with many use cases. But I would like to see custom scales, in this area it is very basic sadly, it is limited to 12TET western system without possibility to save custom scale :(...Using internal synth and cv/midi outs with custom tuning out of 12TET scales + saving custom scales + maybe loading scala files would be awesome...Maybe now with open source someone will create this functionality. You can "hack it" by creating a sample of the sound for every note (128 or those you want to use) and load it as a multisample...it works, but then there are limits to shape the sound with internal tools available only for samples.
@@trymarud must be possible I would like to have envelopes and LFO to to patch with the effects that go over the entire kit doesn't seem to be on the agenda just if you use the slice function you can't use modulation over the whole beat instead it's just individual parts but looks like they are making real progress
@@dzaxys4643 this would be also realy nice! But definitely as you say the progress is there and looking forward to anything new around Deluge!
Alien sounding O_o
Next time I will try to create more harmonic scale with less alien feel :). All steps are just in same tiny ration, but must say I am probably drawn to alien sounds
Voice demo of Quadrax?😮
Aside great modulation module...It is actualy very powerfull sound source :). just littlebit "sensitive" when you try to set specific frequency. But for some droning or even "bell" like sounds it is great!
Love that squelchy bass! Subscribed..😊
Thank you! Returning the follow :), you have very nice sounding patches!
@@trymarud Thank you.. much appreciated 🙌
Sounds so great. What TET System are you using for this jam?
it is Harry Partch's 43 :). It is included in the factory microtonal scales on hydrasynth, nice selection of scales out there
performance deluxe !
Thank you Robert!
Gorgeous work! Was this just using the onboard effects, or were you using internal effects too?
Hi Craig, thank you! I see on the mixer in background flickering return from Eventide Space, I am pretty sure I used it to add bit more reverb.
Beautiful tones & soundscapes ✨️🌟🌄🍻
Thank you Brian :)
Nice one!
Thanks Carlos for stopping by :)
Wonderful. 🙂
Awesome patch and performance! I've been loving my Joranalogue modules. What do you think of Orbit 3? What kind of caps are you using on the Contour sliders?
Hi and thank you! Joranalogue is great. Joran puts lot of functionality and patch possibilities in small, nicely structured, playable and decently priced modules. I like the Orbit as a sound source, lot of timbres, but it is also very good source for slow modulations, lot of complexities possible when you start to mix it also with other modulation sources. The caps are Sifam Slider Caps bought from Thonk - www.thonk.co.uk/shop/sifam-slider-caps
Crazy stuff, I dig it. It'd be cool to see the evolution of something like this as you build the patch up
Thanks :), it is usually lot of modulation, attenuation, randomness to modulate frequency, resonance...or even modulating modulation, random gates, modulated shape and time on envelopes is fun...E352 is a big help overall. I might try to do some patch from scratch video, but not sure if it will be that interesting to watch. Sometimes takes hour or so, sometimes 4+ hours to patch by testing and trying stuff around and that would be probably too long / boring. Maybe I will try to create some just for me as a test and if it will look okish I will post :)
Amazing sound this is, any chance sharing this with us?
Sorry for super late reply, If still interested, I could upload / send you the patch somewhere, just to note, there was Eventide Space used for bit more additional reverb.
~ greetings from germany ~
greetings and thanks for stopping by :)
Superbe !
Thanks Olivier, glad you find it enjoyable
Man this is excellent. Real pressure.
Thank you Brian for checking it out!
Please stop over and help me make my E352 sound like yours! These are the sort of drones I aspire to. Cheers!
Thank you William, glad you find it enjoyable :). It is nothing too fancy, a bunch of modulated modulation, random + random "semi controlled" v/oct quantization (step 8, Harmonaig, Stages...) for all sound sources, mostly "random" gates / triggers. Modulated filters frequency and modulated E352 x,y,z parameters. E352 is in Cloud+Morph mode and I am switching the wavetables manually throughout the piece to create bit of more progression / evolving, tried to do from darker to brighter one...I downloaded some waves created by other artists from WaveEdit, so it is not stock or my own wavetables. I think I am using also original wavetables found in Kermit, If you are Interested I can try to look what specific wavetables I downloaded, but almost any wavetables can be utilised to sound very good, E352 is just stellar module, so glad I was able to still get it (wanted it since my euro beginning) and same time sad Paul closed the shop, wanted one day build his MOTM system, but looks like it will never happen
... a fine treat for mind ... you took me to another world ...totally captivating and gripping 🙏🌹
Thank you Therese for your kind words. I Appreciate your time, feedback and that you enjoyed the listen, always nice to hear if someone finds my creations captivating.🤍
