As a long-time fan of This Band, I walked into The Indie Room last night with high expectations-and I wasn’t disappointed. From the first note to the last, they delivered a performance that reminded me why I’ve followed them for years. Their signature blend of intricate guitar riffs, deep bass grooves, dynamic keys, and tight drum work captivated the entire crowd. The guitarist, in particular, stood out with their soaring solos and rhythm work. Every note seemed to melt into the air effortlessly, balancing technical prowess with raw emotion. The bassist laid down a rock-solid foundation, locking in with the drums to create a groove that was impossible not to move to. The interplay between the bass and drums created a rhythmic heartbeat that drove every song forward. But what really set this gig apart was the keyboardist. The textures and layers they added were both subtle and powerful, creating moments of atmosphere that swelled into huge crescendos. Whether it was a delicate piano line or an ethereal synth pad, they brought a richness to the band’s sound that elevated each track. The drummer was impeccable too-sharp, on-time, and explosive when needed, providing the energy that fueled the night. The band moved seamlessly through their setlist, featuring a mix of their newer material alongside fan favorites. Each song had its own unique identity, yet the show flowed cohesively. There were moments when the crowd was transfixed by quieter, more introspective tracks, only to explode into cheers as the band transitioned into their anthemic, high-energy numbers. While the gig was nearly flawless, there’s always room for growth. If I had to nitpick, there were a couple of moments where the vocals got slightly lost in the mix, particularly during the more instrumentally dense sections. It’s a minor detail in the grand scheme, but a little more clarity in that area could bring even more depth to the overall performance. That said, This Band continues to impress and evolve with every performance. They’ve managed to maintain their core sound while constantly pushing themselves creatively, which is exactly what has kept me coming back all these years. Last night was a testament to their talent, and I can’t wait to see where they go next.

Having been a long-time fan of This Band, I had high expectations heading into their gig at the Loft last night - and they did not disappoint. The four-piece outfit, made up of a guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, and drummer, brought an electrifying energy that had the crowd buzzing from the first chord to the final beat. The guitarist took center stage, showing off a mix of technical prowess and raw emotion. His solos were mesmerizing, particularly during their standout track, “City Lights”, where he delivered soaring leads that seemed to hang in the air before cascading over the crowd like waves. His ability to shift effortlessly between gritty riffs and soulful melodies kept the audience hooked throughout the set. On the bass, you could tell this player was the foundation that held the groove together. The smooth, deep lines in songs like “Running Through Fire” were enough to make the ground shake, but it was the subtle flourishes he added that really stood out - little moments of creativity that filled in the gaps between the other instruments. The keys, handled by an absolute wizard, took the music to another level. Whether laying down moody atmospherics or upbeat riffs, every touch added texture and depth. In tracks like “Skyline Dreams”, the combination of ethereal synth and vintage organ sounds created a magical, dreamlike backdrop. There was something undeniably infectious about his playing, especially when he switched up tones and gave songs an unexpected twist. And the drummer - what can I say? A total powerhouse. The man behind the kit brought an undeniable intensity to the performance. His tight, rhythmic patterns on songs like “Lost in Translation” got the entire crowd moving, but he also knew when to pull back, letting the other band members shine in quieter, more introspective moments. The fills were sharp and creative without ever feeling too over-the-top. The setlist was a fantastic blend of old and new, proving that This Band has grown immensely over the years. Their energy was palpable, and their chemistry as a band was clear - they play like a unit, perfectly in sync with each other. As much as I loved the show, there's always room for improvement. At times, I felt the balance between the instruments could have been better. The guitar occasionally overpowered the keys in the mix, and I would have loved to hear more from the keyboardist during some of the quieter parts. A more even sound might let every member's contributions shine equally. Additionally, while the stage presence was solid, they could work on engaging the audience a little more between songs - a bit more interaction could take their live performance to the next level. Overall, though, This Band delivered a thrilling experience. If you haven’t seen them live yet, do yourself a favor and grab a ticket to their next show. You won’t regret it!

Nothing against Terra Fermata, but I don’t understand how these guys can still be playing small venues, they kick ass and should be killing it in bigger places, that being said I also love it so I can see them in small clubs
