no idea if i should get it after this random nonsense video...
I'm from the north end of St. Catharines too. I worked with a few people who knew Neil. Heard a few stories. One of my co-workers who is still a close friend grew up two doors down from him in Port but was 10 years older. He can tell a few stories too. Mike, the bald, handle bar moustache guy on the cover of Moving Pictures worked at The Beer Store on Scott St. when that album came out. I remember buying a 2-4 from him and asking whether he had been on any album covers lately. He still hangs around the area and I've talked to him about Neil at Cats Caboose and a few other spots in town. Anyway I could go on. Never met Neil but worshipped his music from afar. I often joke that I had season's tickets to RUSH. It was a sad day when I heard that he had passed I felt a shadow cross my heart.
WHOOAA!!! Who's the Uncle Fester dude @2:19?
Un lujo amigo roy
Thanks for doing this comparison! Do wish you would have gone fully wet or at least removed the acoustic sound of your electric guitar's strings. But still, answers my question about the differences.
As a Canadian teenager in the 70's, Rush was in every kids record library. They became Legends and Canadian Royalty, thanks for the video, its nice to hear about the other side of great performers lives....cheers ✌️
Great stuff. Thanks!

Hi Kit , Randy from Fort Erie
issue is making label first half of the print is just fine the bottom half half print and very smeared. what do you think ??.
Am I the only person to pick up on that amazing Steve Martin reference.... my fave nom de plume.... Gurn Blanston.... language tapes... learn with Gurn. That made my day man. Rock on
Probably still pronounced it peeeeert even back then
I'm a guitar player, and a huge Rush fan. Thank you so much for this interview. Neil is my favorite musician, losing him still hurts.
Great work!
Thanks Roy
Pronounce his last name correctly!
Enjoyed your conversation Kit. Thanks for sharing. Its always interesting and insightful to hear personal stories about people of notoriety because it brings them into our reality which is exactly where Neil felt more comfortable and really wanted to be...thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The interviewer interrupts the guest so much...jeez, just let us hear your guest tell the story. You are losing a big portion of the interview as a result...
😊
Good song!
As a drummer and motorcyclist I’d always hoped our paths would cross, never did. So at least I retain my dignity, not to be lumped in with the fan(atic) that I may have been at that time:) RIP Neil ✌️
When Neil retired from drumming in 2015 he got a job as a librarian at a grade school.
Neil worked at a parts counter. Get it?
Thanks That was so so so cool.
Amazing childhood event! Thank you Kit Jarvis. We wish Neil was still here, but I had no idea he cheated the Sandman so young, WITH HELP FROM A HERO! Very cool Kit!
This is absolute GOLD but I have to say to Dan Diggins.... a good interviewer lets his subject talk and not cut him off.
Exactly.
This is really Amazing to hear Kit and Roy. I have a Neil Peart Story to report also back in 2013 before R40 came out. My Drum Tech Linus wanted to know if Neil would go back to Double Bass w/ All Analog(real) percussion on stage and grow his Hair Long again. Well 3-4 months latter Neil wrote back and told us that he liked a good challenge. He also sent us a picture of himself w/ long hair from the 70's joking us in True Neil Peart fashion. We all had a Good Laugh and enjoyed his Zeal for Life and Music. Neil was my Favorite Drummer in the World and is sadly missed. I remember when he passed on Jan.7th, 2020 because my Mom passed 9 days later on Jan.16,2020. They are both sadly missed. I remember listening to "The Garden" over and over after they Died w/ tears swelling up in eyes alone at home. It was the Most Difficult Time in my Life. GOD Bless Everyone
I'm sorry about your loss. I lost my Mom in '19. We were very close. I'll never get over it, and you're not supposed to if you actually loved them. The Mom's want us to move forward, be happy for them. So many Rush songs have saved my sanity over the years. So I also think of loved ones lost these days. But I don't show it. I still try to tell jokes and laugh as much as possible.
@@Greg-io1ip Thanks for the kind words Greg.🙏 GOD Bless You and Your Mom.
Thank you for sharing your story Jonathan, and I am sorry for your loss. I lost my mom in 2013, and hardly a day goes by that I don't think about her or find myself repeating one of her funny sayings. Although I never knew or wrote to Neil, his passing was like losing a close friend. I don't know if one ever gets over such losses; maybe we learn to tuck it away somewhere safe and make peace with it. Very cool story, thanks again.
@@christophereveritt571 Hello Chris, I Hope You are doing well. GOD Bless You, Your Mom and Your Family. 🙏
Story brings tears to my eyes😢. Neil was such an influence on me and many others around the world 🌎. A true human being and an incredible musician 😊
Interviewer talks as much as the interviewee. Next time, try stop butting in. Thanks.
Pronounced Pier-t. Duh.
Awesome video about NP. I remember reading in one of his books about his near drowning experience. What book was that in?
That was great. Thanks. Mr. Kit
Can you PLEASE pronounce his name right??
Oh shut up with that already!! Neil HIMSELF didn't care about that.
👍👍
I’m not going to break your balls about pronouncing his last name. 😆 Sorry man.
P👂🏻T
You lost me mispronouncing Neil's last name. PEERT. God dam!!
This is what life is all about. Heartwarming.
I love Kit...such a great guy
I played with Neil in two bands, was a friend and lived at Neil's family's house for a bit, while we formed a second band (rather than traveling back and forth from another town), and we kept in touch during most of his years in Rush, etc. I've often suggested that someone write a biography about Neil, not just focusing on his times with Rush, but his early days ;before' Rush. There are lots of people from St. Catharines/Port Dalhousie, etc., that knew Neil well, along with his sisters, fellow bandmates, and friends with tons of stories. Chris Irwin knows more than practically anyone about Neil. My point is that someone should contact us all someday and put together a really interesting book about Neil's early days. Some of us are in a video bio about musicians around the area called 'The Small Story of Big Potatoes' which is here on UA-cam. But that documentary is about musicians in the Niagara Peninsula, and only focuses on Neil, regarding the early bands he was in. C'mon Chris!
What bands were you in with him? I recognize your last name, but I forget the band
@@AugfordpdoggieIt was 'The Majority', then the leader gave us an ultimatum one night after a gig (after the singer played a prank on him) whereby Wayne, Neil and myself had to choose between either staying with him, or going with the singer. By the way, that singer is mentioned in 'Traveling Music'. Anyway, we quickly chose to stay with the singer, as he was a good singer and charismatic, trying to imitate a sort of Jim Morrison persona. That second band had a couple of names: 'The Silent Majority' and at one point either 'Damien' or something else. We only played two, gigs, and eventually fell apart as we had no money, transportation, van, agency, etc. On the other hand, the former leader had all that and more. While in the Majority, we had done tons of gigs.
@@JoeSzilagy ok yes.....I remember that story. I saw the Small story videos about a year ago. It was so fascinating. Are you still playing music? Neil inspired me to play the drums, and Neil saved my life :)
I am also in that Cleveland photo. Floor on Geddy's side. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
@@Augfordpdoggie Yes, still playing. I have home-made videos that feature my music on my own UA-cam channel which is 'JoeSzilagy/ aka: Joe Slant'. Actually, it was Neil who gave me the nickname of Joe Slant way back in the Majority, and somehow it stuck ever since. I don't even know how. I also remembered that the second band II mentioned evolved into a band called 'Doc Savage'. By then, Neil was in J.R. Flood, and they and Doc Savage were some of the early bands at the Brock Festival that starred the Guess Who and a bunch of other bands.
Very cool, would have loved to hear SOOOO much more!! And THANK YOU Kit, for without your actions that fateful day, us fans would not have had such a strong inspiration for what WE'VE done in our lives.
It’s nice to witness a friendship and gratitude that spans decades
At 11:30 he is talking about Nobody's Hero, "Saves a drowning child."
Nice catch!!
Yup, I was thinking that was it as well.
I can't help but wonder if the later years photographing his drum kit on a raft and being on top of his game was a metaphor.
@@jeffchabot4385 That's pretty insightful.
I’m thinking or wondering if at some point Niel had to conquer his fear of water. One of his ways of getting exercise was swimming that he seem to enjoy.
Great Interview!
RUSH is magnificent. Canadian, and magnificent.
Neil "Peert" Peart
Maybe ask him how to pronounce The fucking guys name, cause you clearly have no idea. 😂 he’s not a shampoo!
Great review!
You can do better. This is not an accurate video at all. Phew!
There is no reverb? Its dry
