I’m keeping both.
Great video
Haha the same exact thing would happen to me
I am currently in EXACTLY the same situation - I bought the XY, then made a video of the OP-1F as a final lap of victory and now I don’t think I can sell it…
Blast these bewitching devices! Looking forward to your vid tho I've enjoyed them a lot so far
@ thank you so much
I think the synths are very complimentary. There's nothing like Dimension on the OP XY, no straightforward subtractive synth. And there's nothing like the electric piano or organ on the OP1F.
Keep these videos up man! Enjoying them!
Thanks man means a lot coming from the master!
What firmware are you on? I'm having trouble with the USB interaction. OPXY isn't sending MIDI nnote off to my OP1F over USB C. I really think they thought through using them both together. The XY is a little short on effects and sound design I think there's a lot of potential for using the XY as a sequencer and then recording onto the OP1F's tape with overdubs and track effects and so forth. But my transport sync and note_off commands are buggy.
I downloaded the latest firmware for both off the TE website before doing the video, but are you sure you have all your settings configured correctly? It took me a couple tries to get it right since the OP-XY has midi settings in at least two places - the overall system settings and the midi track
@@pocketspell Yeah, updated firmware and there's still a bug. If you change the midi settings, the OP1F isn't taking note in until you change the MIDI channel on both units. Kinda strange. Anyway, minor bug and hard to imagine it won't get sorted out eventually.
They should connect nicely thru USB-C too. For both audio and MIDI. Haven’t tried to do so yet. I want so save life of some Z projects breathing fresh air on XY ❤
Nice, I guess it records each midi channel and filters them direct to the corresponding track. Hopefully this means you can instantly record 8 channels of midi to the op xy from iOS or daw or any other midi sequencer too
If the op-z build was better i would it just for the size but i have heard horror stories about double trigger and bending. I don’t want to deal with that. The op-xy is much better in almost every way but $2400 is a big investment I would have to save up for.
I agree the OP-XY is a major investment, but if you're not up for it the OP-Z is absolutely amazing. There's nothing "horrifying" about a 1mm bend or the occasional double trigger considering how much fun and functionality you get for $350 used
I would not buy it again, my op-z had the shift key double triggering, that made the device completely unusable.
@@jantuitman ahh ok, that's pretty bad
Loved this 👍✨ subscribed
Thanks so much!

OK me again, I think I have it. Let me double check. So when building a song we can do so by using one scene and muting tracks within the scene and creating new scenes with variations of what is muted or not that’s option one. Then there’s option two, which is to copy and paste Each track to create multiple scenes. Does that make sense option one is essentially creating one pattern loop and muting tracks that contribute to that loop option two is copying and pasting the scene and making variations to each of those.
Creating a scene basically boils down to two components: choosing which tracks are muted or not muted, and choosing which pattern will be playing for each track
When creating multiple patterns for a track, you can either copy/paste or create a new blank pattern. What's interesting about this function is that each pattern on a track does not necessarily need to share the same instrument or parameters
@@pocketspell Aha! I see, that makes sense. Many thanks!!
Thanks for the video! This seems essential. Cheers mate!
Thanks for the inspiration!
OP-XY is family
sweeeeeet sounds
Thanks for making decent dark wavy music with the XY... Can't hear those boring US beats any more...
@@neuzethmusic131 thanks so much glad you enjoyed! Plenty more where that came from
Love to see it! Maybe a tutorial series??? 👀
If you’ll watch it, I’ll make it!
You can put down on the white knob to quick mute the metronome.
Nice tip!
Love the sonics! I can relate to early morning, late night sessions with the kids for sure. I'm rewatching so hopefully, I figure it out. But it would be great to see a video where you distill/overview groups vs scenes. I know there are likely many workflows, and watching yours leads to more questions. I love how streamlined, but am lost with the groups v.s scenes and how they interact. Anyways, dont mean to give you homework, but if you have interest, would be super helpful. Either way, thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for watching! Now that you mention it, I think I've been using the term "group" instead of "scene" (probably got confused due to similarity to "mute groups" on the OP-Z). Sorry for the confusion and thanks for pointing it out! I'll be sure to dig more into the manual and put up another video to help clarify and maybe do a deeper dive on the arrange mode and song-building.
@@pocketspell Ha! I thought I just cracked it, which was that you meant 'tracks' for groups so i must have been wrong. I'm going to hit that bell so i can figure this out!. I appreciate the knowledge and inspiration!
@@pocketspellOk, apologies, if I’m getting a bit obsessive about this, but watched your first video, and it seems like your usuing 1 pattern on each track, and usuing shift mute to create variations, is that what 'groups' means?. Does that sound right? But can also add new scenes along the way?
@@videosarchive8058 no prob and again sorry for the confusion. There's no such thing as a "group" on the OP-XY, at least as far as I can tell from another glance at the manual. What I'm creating by muting some patterns (and in some cases creating variations on patterns) are "scenes," which I'm then laying down in play-through order in song mode. I apologize for the fact that the really quick walk-through in the video assumes a lot of prior knowledge on the OP-Z workflow, and I can see how the lack of detail could make it confusing. Now that I've done a really quick overview video I was planning to back up and make separate videos to zoom in on each step, and thanks to your interest I'll start on arrange mode!
@@pocketspell awesome my man, thank you so much, that really helps and I look forward to your videos. No apologies necessary. You’re doing us all a major favor and we are grateful to you and your time. 🤙🏽
great song. sounds like a 80s classic. all sounds from the op-xy itself? couldn’t watch the whole video….
@@patrickstocker1421 thanks so much! And yes, it’s just using a few of the internal synth engines
I witching so bad that TE had put the same colour every 4th sequencer knob to see the rhythm faster and better. 4black, 4darkgrey 4grey 4white
Yeah that would’ve been cool. I’ll bet a little round sticker would do the trick while we get used to it
The 1st, 5th and 9th note all have a "1" on the button just ahead, that's how I keep track of it
I’m guessing you can just order another full set from them and replace two in each quarter?
Thanks I enjoyed the track, can’t wait for the next vid!
Thanks so much!
Was hoping for an aluminum body op-z with microSD and undo button + new FX/Engines. Also this still has only 2 FX channels :( This isnt the 'upgrade,' I was anticipating. Also the OP-Z is my all time fav noise maker too
That would've been cool! This is something else entirely. I'm still hoping for per-track fx in a future upgrade.
Thank you for a great and inspiring video! /Muhr
Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
I wish they kept the OP1 colors. Or give you an option to customize colors. At that price. I think that would be welcomed.
I think the price comes down to materials. The experience. And The reputation the company has had on culture. They market themselves as a designer company. Not a musical one. Which, I think is what they are. And I think a lot of people miss that point. As long as it lasts a long time, and allows me to make tunes and have fun. I'd give it a shot. And probably sell it.
No one needs another OPxy video… all the dorks are making videos about it…
I may be a dork, but people literally asked me for this. And I'm gonna do it again!
@@pocketspellGood. Don’t listen to these trolls.
