I have a complaint, STOP PLANES FROM INJECTING PARTICULATES AND AEROSOLS INTO THE SKY ! how did that become a good idea?. I do not consent to allowing idiots to make decisions involving the air I need to breathe. That's a direct threat to my survival, it needs to stop or be stopped.

Those masks will not protect you in a concentrated asbestos environment. Very foolish to rely on those little masks for protection while doing the cleanup. You need full body coverage and hose down before removal.

I know that particulate monitoring is done remotely via one of two means - the older Tapered Element Oscillating Microbalance (TEOM) method, or the newer Beta Attenuation Monitoring (BAM) method. There are also "samplers" (like Thermo Fisher Scientific's Partisol™ range) with filter cartridges that must be weighed in a laboratory to determine the average concentration. For the gaseous ones, I believe it's a bit more complicated: • ozone and sulfur-dioxide monitors use pulsed ultraviolet fluorescence monitoring, in which a specialized zinc lamp emits ultraviolet light through a filter and lens and energizes the gas molecules which then return to their ground states and release UV light at ANOTHER wavelength which is picked up by a photomultiplier tube. • totally-reduced sulfur monitors oxidize the TRS before measuring it as sulfur dioxide using the method above. • carbon monoxide is measured using infrared absorption. • nitrogen dioxide is measured by reducing it to NO and then reacting it with ozone and measuring the resulting chemiluminescence using a photomultiplier tube, with the resulting difference between the NO and NOx being the nitrogen-dioxide concentration. The cost of the regulatory instruments is extraordinary though!

As wildfires continue to worsen due to climate change, it is more important than ever that we all stop burning wood to protect the shortening good-air periods we have left. After all (as the Air District brilliantly demonstrated with their recent art graphics), wildfire smoke IS wood smoke (with a few other chemicals tucked into the mix as well)!

There are so many clean heating alternatives nowadays that it makes no sense not to switch to them!

Whether it's a good way to heat a building is one thing. Whether it harms people or not is another. Gas fireplaces are better than wood, but the best way to heat a building is electrically - either directly (via resistance heating) or indirectly (heat pumps or hydronic heating). Generating pollution to heat a building is absurd and inexcusable in the middle of the climate crisis.

The “clean cars for all” program is for low income people (less than $40k a year). Even will all the rebates and grants they still have to cough up $30k for a new electric car. Guess I keep on driving my 25 year old car, it’s just not economically feasible to buy a new car. The politicians who come up with these programs have no idea how it is to live on $40k a year.
