When it comes to adjusting your strumming you have to consciously make a shift in your muscle memory and form a positive association with the new action. What I mean is you have to practice segments with the new technique so you start recognising where it's appropriate and where it feels right. Then your mind can implement the new technique instead of worrying about where to use it for the best results.
Thank you! Yeah, it's a really weird mental block. I'm literally faster with my wrist but my whole forearm feels way safer timing-wise. Hilariously, I don't have this issue with real guitar, but I guess it's just a question of grinding out long strumming sections with my wrist. I appreciate the insight!
