At a Pop A Smoke reunion in San Diego I found the helicopter I crewed in Viet Nam with HMM 165. The bird still belonged to HMM 165. It was like a reunion with a family member! I recognized the Falstaff beer can bukllet hole patches immediately!

I love hearing these heroes stories, so awesome the Vietnam vets are getting the recognition they've always deserved. Its truly sad how long it took for them to be considered the heroes they are.

My last ride in a UH-1H was from Rhein Main to Katterbach 1994-95. It was a nice flight, but UH-60 was a smoother ride. The guys I served with were the best. 2/1 Aviation. "Fighting Eagles!"

20th SOS MACV/SOG - UH-1N twin engine Huey - door gunner - shot a GAU-2/B mini-gun 2000 & 4000 rounds per minute - two triggers. I can still hear a Huey from two clicks out.
It's unimaginable what they went through, most of them like my father never discuss it, they buried it as deep as they could to try to enjoy what they had left of life
Welcome home
