I never saw a dust remover on a pl-12D. I have a PL-12Dll. I would really like to put one on mine. Where can I get one? Thanks for making this video !
better if you prepared beforehand
Hi, You are right, I should be prepared better, on my defence is that I am only doing this out of love for vintage hifi and try to share a bit of what is still out there and obviously I should get out in my videos more info about the stuff I am presenting, thanks for your suggestion, I will try to get better ;)
AFC is NOT noise reduction. Is Automatic Frequency Control.
Nice turntable, looks like new. Does a great job playing vinyls.
Ahh, from an era when Dual went the way of suck. Remember when they were made of metal? Incidentally, thanks for not calling those round black things you put on the platter "vinyls"!
Hi, Just to add that as an entry model it is no so bad, it does the job and if you do not need anything that will not cost you fortune it is ok, besides if your whole setup are entry models no need to go overboard and buy something that you are not going to hear the difference anyway , step by step and upgrade by upgrade people are getting better pieces but you must to start somewhere, sometimes with that Dual ;)
Great radio. Its Sony. From Russia with Love. Thanks.
What a nice piece of kit! Thanks for sharing 😀 (so neat to see @vwestlife in the comments)
You are welcome, I try to bring some nice and forgotten little gems if I find them somewhere.
Был у меня такой аппарат, прекрасно работал!👍
Was this the setup that was for sale on ebay? ;-)
You can find it this one there.
AFC = Automatic Frequency Control, to make tuning in FM stations easier.
I have the exact set up bar speakers. Do you have any idea why the tone arm won't cue and snaps back to the locked position?
Sometimes it need the degreasing as old grease gets hard and that prevents from moving to the position, or just something is dislocated inside, if you know a bit how to take apart and look inside, clue is probably there.
@FunwithVintageHiFi thank you for the reply. I'll get round to having a look at it soon.
My first system Sansui 2000 receiver AR 2ax speakers AR turntable with stanton 500ee cartridge
That is nice set up ;)
It is Sansui, great, I listen to Katie Melua too with my Sansui G3000. Very good. Thanks for the video.
Yes Katie is great to listen on those vintage receivers :)
The disk 1 and Disk 2 inputs were designed for a moving iron vinyl record cartridge and it applies an RIAA equalisation curve to th e signal. That is why the CD was very bassy. The CD player has a "line" out put level and should have been plugged into into Tuner 1 or Tuner 2 inputs. One of tuner inputs has a slide switch on the back panel to change the sensitivity of the input, try switching to the lower sensitivity.
Thanks for the info, that is great advice, next time I will knew that. ;)
Just bought this amp, very excited to test it out with the Technics SB-C350 speakers :)
Hope you enjoy it! It is a nice amp.
I do own the smaller 470 PXS, it sounds pretty good, but i would recommend to replace the operational amplifier. The C4570 from NEC is built in, and it's OK, but some other, better OP amps are out there. Changing it to a diferent one will improve the sound. Even the pretty cheap NE5532 sounds better, especially in the highs are smoother.
You might be right but I am a fun of the originality as I think Japanese engineers were pretty clued up what are they doing but if someone is looking for some kind of improvement that it might be there why not but as I mentioned I am not recommending changing anything ;)
Hey man you sound like you know a lot about these amps. Mine has a quiet channel. The problem can sometimes be fixed by increasing volume all the way and then reducing it. But one channel is still quieter. I assume it's either the potentiometer for volume if it has two rails, but I doubt that. Probably is the internal pre amplifier... Do you have a clue?
Also, I don't think it's the volume knob because using the balancer to increase the volume of the quiet channel to the max and waiting a bit makes it work again for some time ( switch back to normal balance after it comes "online")
I have a collection of receivers and the 1000x is one of my favorites. I prefer the sound over my 661.
Ohh wow.. collection you say, that is nice, yes this one is really nice.
I’m intrested
Hi, I am sorry but not for sale, I am sure that you can find one for sale on the net.
Wow! I had one of these in 1979, beautiful rich sound. Wish I hadn't given it to my sis.
Ooo, that’s a petty but look on the bright side, because of you she has enjoyed a great sound from that receiver. You can still find those on selling platforms.
Beautiful indeed. I have a Sansui 221. It's a baby receiver but sounds beautiful too :)
221 it very nice receiver, I’m sure it sounds really good. I would love to hear it, if I come across one I will definitely check it out.👍🏻
@FunwithVintageHiFi You must add a 221 to your collection :)
Definitely 😉
I just picke 1 up atva garage sale. Its beautiful piece
Wow, that’s lucky to find one like that :)
Hey, i need the amp scematic so i can repeir ir, do u know where can i find it?
Hi, Only I can suggest is to keep checking on ebay or market websites that someone has got one for sale with manuals and maybe to ask them to scan it for you as it will be difficult to find one online, good luck and hopefully you can fix yours soon.
👍
Does not suite musical tapes but vocals in MONO
Hi, To be honest I test it on the musical tapes and it they were copied properly, stereo and all so I am not so sure that it can be only for what you are saying but who knows, those tapes were still good quality, maybe not quality that you can have from two decks but still really good.
I'm amazed you didn't mention the fact that it has a metal face plate, not a plastic one, also you didn't show the best feature of that CD player, the motorised output volume control!
Hi, To be honest with you I did not knew that, my bet, but thanks for acknowledging that, next time I came a cross one I will check this future on it.
❤
Best week to do is use rothwell 10db rca attenuators with mogami 2962 30cm cable between the pre and power amp. Attenuators go on the power amp input.
I just purchased this deck about 2 months ago and it's my 4th purchase of a vintage cassette deck. This deck is a keeper, and I'm very pleased with all aspects of its functionality. Searching eBay, this deck appears to be the model with the most decks that are functional and not just for parts, thus giving me hope for its continued reliability and longevity.
Hi, Exactly, they are very good for what they are, jut normal maintenance required and they will serve you for years.
Can i use it for normal Stereo Use...? , without the Synthesizer?
Hi, Yes, you can but they are not made for it as they are not as powerful as amps or receivers so they are made as a "support" to your hifi as a four channel amp.
I have rc-970bx mkII+rb-970bx
Beautiful. I wish I had one of these
Yes, they really nice machines for duplicating cassettes, I wish that I had one when everything was on the cassettes ;)
@@FunwithVintageHiFi i still try to have my music on tape :)
Me too!!!
Great machine. As a contribution the speeds are 7.5 and 15 ips. ❤️
Thanks for that! Is always nice that someone have some extra knowledge about vintage hifi.
Nice video! How do you play from tape deck? There is only switch for tuner/aux/phono
Thanks, On the right hand side you can see knobs for the tape “Tape monitor” you just flick it to the on position and it cuts off the rest and it does play the signal from the tape.
I used to sell these tuners in the 70's. A lovely bit of kit. I really wish I would have bought one for myself!
Yes, those are really nice, we are all admired them before but the price was probably too steep for us but now you can pick up one for reasonable prices, I managed to get few of them over the years. Hopefully you can find one and get a chance to bring back great memories.
Yes, but don't use records that are in really good condition in changer mode, if you want them to stay that way (and why wouldn't you). Notice how it slips when each record drops...you can even hear it on the video. That is going to scuff, and it will build up damage over time, along with accidental scuffing in building a stack. Thankfully at least these do not require the overarm to be placed over the records as that is another place to cause damage given most of those make full contact with the record on top (some are just in contact with the label). There were a handful of changer models made by VM that were the gentlest changers ever - they not only excluded the overarm like Technics, but they also stopped the platter from moving while the record was gradually lowered vs dropped, so there was none of the slippage which occurs with even things because the platter is stationary and the record is lowered vs dropped. You're still dealing with potentially scuffing up records in making the stack and taking it apart, along with any warps that may introduce slippage during play, but the player design and mechanism eliminated the other issues. You can watch the best model of these...the 1555...work here: ua-cam.com/video/iF5ALj2GyCE/v-deo.html ...and here (rebranded under Sherwood): ua-cam.com/video/Sk_Mrvce6vg/v-deo.html
Thanks for the comment. Of course you do not going to use your precious records on it just in case but to be honest I check this one for that exact reason and I must say that I do not see any particular damage like scuffs and stuff as when is going down is "hitting" sides of the record below if so but I agree that probably using it over and over on some records might get damaged and as you mentioned it is a full contact with record below and in the queue on the top, of course there are a lot of models from different brands that do the changers especially for singles but this one I find it fascinating that Technics did this one.
@@FunwithVintageHiFi It's certainly among the better changers.
you need to put a little sticker on the cassette to get the 4 track playback and recording. it is just a black line on sticking tape to engange the light sensor behind the cassette in the tray very nice machine! simple and functional
Ohh if I knew that before I would check it but thanks for the tip.
Very nice.
Thank you
Nice Tapedeck. I have one here too in silver. Do you know how much it costs back then in 1983/84?
Hi, I think it was around 220-250 dollars but I might be wrong to exact price. If you have one In nice condition look after it as they are lovely machines.
@@FunwithVintageHiFi Thank you for the info!
This was a very budget model. No collectability and for very cheap, MUCH better can be had. Check out the TC-K65 or TC-K75 series.
Yes, you are right but still is less and less of them still working so slowly they become affordable little gems.
@@FunwithVintageHiFi You know, you're right. I've been scooping up JVC 2-headers to add to my collection of 3-head machines. I was a BIG Sony guy growing up and all my tape decks were Sony. The problem with JVC decks is that they are no fun to work on because they don't need anything but a cleaning. They all seem to still run without any issues! lol
Nice. I've got a 1973 Akai GXC-46D similar cassette deck.
Wow, very nice deck👍🏻
Fantastic!
Completely agree, it’s really cool Reel to Reel player, with those four VU meters making a little more magic :)
Lo apprezzo bel yamaha,se fosse mio gli farei un restauro estetico,ho notato che ha dei graffi,e controlla il counter, non va
Hi, for sure nice restoration would be nice, I just don’t have a time to do stuff like this, I try to bring it to all that appreciate the vintage hifi, with a opportunity to seek those things work and maybe to see if they would like to one day to get themselves one of those things. Appreciate your input, that would be nice to have it restored.
@@FunwithVintageHiFi sono d'accordo,comunque bel video
can l get it?
Hi, You can buy those players online but you have to be quick as if good condition they are sold very quickly.
Price ?
The problem with this model was in fact those glass heads. They were great for mechanical wear BUT the composition of the heads made them very unstable at higher frequencies. I tried to have them re adjusted but no good. The higher freq's were missing. anything above say 9 K were gone. Very troubling. I had heard they some people replaced those heads with laminated heads giving much better performance. I was so upset with this model, I finally got a Technics US 1500 US 1/2 track machine to make my master tapes. The response on the US 1500 was 20 to 20K. BTW, the 7010 was heavy 70 some pounds.
Hi, You might be right about that as mine was having some problems when I was recording on it and yes they are very heavy.
Very very nice
Yes it is, I recommend to have one if you can have chance.
When working, this is a very desirable deck.
Yes you need to look after it when you got one, this one was serviced and working just fine.
Got two of these, using a pd-s703 cd, qed anniversary cable and ipl s2tlm speakers. The quality of music reproduction is amazing. Picks up the 16bit video game sample in Lana del Rey's track. An old but seriously capable unit. Recommended.
Wow that is impressive set.
I have reel to reel "TEAC X-300", end "ReVox B-77"
Wow those are nice players.
Do the rear channels sound like surround sound?
Hi, It’s hard to compare as I did not connect it to main receiver to have full experience but it does have surround option and it does sound like a proper surround, I think it’s designed with intention to give you a “space” experience like you are in the opera or concert hall, especially that Sansui design special unique units that you can connect to your record player and if record was recorded for quadrophonic lessening that would make it for you all experience. Unit is called: Sansui QC-04 CD-4 Demodulator, I think it’s first take on surrounding sound experience at home, great unit for anyone to check out. Thanks for watching🖖🏻
Are u spanish? I love old technics ❤ i bought that fm radio and a Akai also. I dont like that they are exclusive or tuner or tape. Maybe a combo tape+tuner in one could be perfect. Very good video. Best regards
Hi, No I'm not Spanish ;) I love all old vintage Hi Fi that what prompted me to show them a bit as I have a large collection of vintage hi fi stuff, I am all for Technics as that how I started to collect and then Pioneer and Akai and so on ;) There is combo from Technics: Technics SA-K6L, it is an a Receiver with cassette tape player/recorder, maybe in the future I will do the presentation as I do have one but in need a bit of restoring. Thanks for watching :)
