Although I like Q*Bert and it inspired me to make a future video game, the main character is pretty much the only thing that would loosely resemble Q*Bert. I have a name picked out, a prototype name of Q*Bert, which Warren Davis himself approved. Gameplay would be fairly different, some enemies would be clearly inspired, but not directly copied.

They were all still better than the Atari 2600 Pac man release. 40+ years later, I am still pissed about the game we got. I knew none of the 2600 games would look as good as the arcade. But Defender was good, so was Missile Command. When my mom got it for me, I ran home ready to play it. I tore the box open, plugged it in and the game loaded then I felt this wave of disappointment. Not so much a wave, as it was a f'n tsunami. I remained bitter and pessimistic for the rest of my life.

Piranha had another version that played very similarly to Pacman. The differences being that there were areas without walls and further levels the walls were invisible. There is a video on youtube that goes into detail.

i actually played this game as a kid on an emulator back in the day.. so weird seeing it actually being real. thought this game was part of my dream or something. anyways, great video! haven't seen all of the gameplay until now so its so cool seeing it!

Is it preferable to have a second player to rear-gun for you and keep you in the game longer? Or is it better to just go solo?

The ghosts have names, you know. And, I’m pretty sure they don’t randomly pick a method of chasing pac-man, as their individual methods are supposed to be tied to each of them specifically. At least, they don’t do that in the original arcade version.
