Nowadays, modern life and conveniences has made it extremely easy for people to be solitary. There is no pragmatic reason for relationships, unlike the past, where marriage and relationships had practical conveniences outside of the emotional bond, ie political, business reasons or financial reasons. As a result, the only reason to date now is purely emotional. The person has to add value to your life beyond what you would otherwise have alone. I think that's why it's become more and more scarce.
