1920 Parlor Rebuild Part 3
Переглядів 9084 роки тому
In this block we remove a fingerboard I screwed up and make another. Install frets and glue it back to the neck. The section on removal got messed up so the process is to heat the board with an iron to relax the glue and then slide a putty knife to separate the glue joint. Fender Clay dots are actually zinc hydrochloride and cellulose. They were analyzed long ago. They were never clay.
nahhh mr. goodson your guitars are so baddie
Excellent video, I have seen a few videos on the channel and I would like to send my guitar for a trust rod change, where can I find that information? greetings

What kind of glue and powder
It’s essentially saw dust and superglue.
I rebuilt my one with a cyanoacrylate or super quick drying glue, and sandpaper. The repair is literally invisible, and has stayed that way, eversince I repaired it in 1999.
I am into my first bajo quinto build. I was researching the saddle when I came across your video. Would you be willing to sell a couple of your bridges?
Sorry, they are proprietary and I don’t sell them to the public.
nice!👍
Thanks.
very cool 👍😎
Nice
Keep on making videos like this
You’re so good at this!❤❤
What build, that’s just a bunch of parts bro.
It’s coming in installments. Next up is the milling and cutting of the lumber.
Hi Mr Goodson it’s Gillian
Great video set. Would you happen to know how the rope binding is installed on many bajo's? Thank you.
I recall reading that the sections are glued together and a section of cloth is glued to the outside to hold it together during fitting and bending. Once it’s all dry the cloth is sanded or scraped away.
nice shot of your back
Promo*SM 🙈
A like good tenk.
I stayed
And I appreciate that so much.
Always wondered how those were done. Nice job as always!
Thanks for watching
Shouldn't the bridge be level on the bottom? I mean woodworking glue isn't really good at filling up gaps. The bridge should be mated exactly to the soundboard.
When’s the part 2 coming mr. Goodson -Joshua Rodriguez
This was about the time I changed jobs and the channel got put on a back burner. I’m trying to work out how to do more videos. Time is a commodity.
I did piano work. And I learned to wax pencil to match wood grain and spray paint to match the wood. And spray some sealer or clear coat. I would tried that if the stain couldn't match
the video quality on this one was not good at all. sorry Sir.
Wat clamp do you use, if you have clamp the body across horizontally?
I have two large Irwin style clamps. I use larger rubber bands also.
Would You be able to use the epoxy resin that gorilla glue makes
I’m not familiar enough with that product to form an opinion.
Rosewood dust and CA glue is so much easier. We wouldn't dare use epoxy on a fingerboard when building at Fender
Hi! I'm also repairing a parlor, a german one. Mine come without bridge but still has a nut and I'd like to make a new bridge, pyramid style. Which measurements should I take to have it in relation with the nut? Many thanks
Measure the distance from the fretboard side of the nut to the center of the 12th fret. Use that same measurement to get from the 12th fret to the saddle position.
The 12th fret is half way between the nut and saddle position.
If I wanted to make one of these out of pure wood, how can I find a splined socket (?) to press (or route and glue) into the center of the wood?
A forstner bit will drill a flat bottom hole. Allowing you to inlay the medallion into the knob.
Very similar to a 1930s May Bell I am restoring. But not as bad as yours. I did replace that bridge plate completely. Why did you cut it instead? I was able to flatten my top doing that.
Holy cow! I actually have a similar fix to do. I only have a few small pieces of scrap rosewood. I was considering using it to replace the side part of the fret. Is that a waste of time? Only a full replace of the affected fret would do?
Is he still alive
Yes, but so busy I don’t have much time for videos. Making them really slows me down.
Great video! I'd like to know what kind of wood clamps those are that you are using ? Can't seem to find them anywhere.
Spool clamps at Stewart McDonald
i have some fairly deep gouges in an ebony fretboard, I guess someone played the guitar with long nails. Will the same technique apply with ebony dust and epoxy/super glue? I'm talking about two or three between the A and B strings on frets 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. The even frets have abalone inlay, which may be slightly worn too but not as noticeable.
I would not use this technique on a playing surface. If it won’t devalue the instrument replace the board.
Dónde asen esos trabajos?
14:25 "a little bit of shellac" ... Shellac is water soluble If you refinish furniture with shellac and someone puts a drink down on it, it'll leave a permanent ring
Good to know
I don’t make it a habit of putting drinks on my guitars and some of the finest classical guitars in the world use the French polish method which is Shellac.
Great video! Thanks

27/32nds!!! How about talking something that makes sense like MILLIMETRES?!
Can you say the bridge mesurments please.
This was a repair. I’m unsure of the scale measurements
Seem to have taken off a lot of the binding
Can you make a left handed bass guitar or a left handed acoustic guitar
Yes
excellent! What is the approximate price of that instrument?
2800 US
Looking forward to the follow up 👍🏻
