One year of ACES EFI Killshot - Rotary - Was it worth it?
Hey all, welcome back! I just threw a simple video together to go over the ACES unit on a rotary engine. I've been getting so many questions on here and on Instagram, which is so cool. Thank you for all the kind words! I figure I'll just start making these quick videos whenever someone asked me a question I haven't answered yet to hopefully help someone else in the future. Keep the questions, comments and kind words coming! Thank you. Also, shout out to my Patreon member. Thank you for your continued support homie. It means a lot.

I have so much exciting news to share! I've been hired as an actual mechanic, I'm starting the turbo build on my ACES EFI Killshot powered rotary and I'm excited to take you along with me. This is a chill video with a lot of talking so maybe skip ahead if you don't care about that lol. The next video will be the manifold welding and then hopefully the tuning and starting procedure. I've been seeing alot of Aces products lately. Been debating on trying them or just stick with Holley. Good info
I don't think you can go wrong with either tbh. The quality on the aces seems nicer in my opinion though.
I'll take one for free 😂
😂 how do you think I got that purple one
2 questions was the vehicle turbo installed prior to EFI and if so how much HP ?
No, this car didn't run when I got it. I rebuilt the full car from bare chassis up. It was carburetored with a standard nikki carb and I built all my lines with ptfe 8AN feed and a 6AN return. Upgraded to an EFI fuel pressure regulator and upgraded to a surge tank and triple fuel pump setup. A fully bridgeport rotary with full exhaust porting, performance intake and full 2.5inch non- catted exhaust probably made from 185 to 205hp. I'm looking for 250 to 275 on 8psi of boost. Hopefully that helps? Lol
Does their system save the tune even if the battery was disconnected, or do you have to re-learn again? I'm not sure if Fitech has fixed that issue with their system.
The tune is saved. You can set it to delete the learn data everytime you key off ignition if you wanted to
Congrats on the new job! Sick build man, good luck with it.
Hell yeah thank you!
U get yojr tack signal from the trailing coil on a waist spark rotary they did this from 78 up to 92 as the trailing is not waist it reads correctly will fix your issue with timing
The aces unit reads half rpm regardless of where you get your tach signal from. There's an issue with the aces unit only being able to read V8 pulses. The jackpot system doesn't suffer from this. And I was running the leading tach signal off the msd square wave output to the unit. I need a tach signal converter to double the rpm and have an attenuation circuit to convert it to a 12 volt square wave off the trailing. I've been on the phone and emailed the engineers at aces multiple times. It's an issue with their tach algorithm not my build
@ ah. Normally the leading off the coil would be firing as much as a 2 cly with waist spark but if it wont do any thing but 8 u can get a converter from Dakota digital to convert it we had to do that with the 20b for the stock cluster to work with the fd rx7 i did not say it was your build but its a common issue when people hook to the leading coil and not trailing.
I do the best I can with pushing everything forward. There will be more coverage on rotory applications when I finish the current projects. Big focus on install and education videos for setup and some troubleshooting.
I appreciate everything that you do. Hopefully that came across lol @@actionvulture5251
Does it really work? I need help?! I want to do this conversion but don’t know anyone that went through it. How can we get in contact?
It works great!
Good work bro I have also opened the carburetor of Mazda Rx7
Thanks! It's a tricky bastard
Where is the idle screw?
Kinda hard to explain over text lol it's near the throttle linkage underneath it. Kinda to the right of the silver cap looking thing
How can I contact you I install aces killshot on my rotary 86 corolla and turns on but shuts right off won't stay running

I would almost hate to trash the package .
It is very nice. I can't lie about that lmao. I'll be doing an update video very soon. I have about 700miles on the unit and it's been very good to me.

I love you so much sister!!! I do feel like I’ve fallen into a fairytale 🥹 so grateful to have you both in our lives, your love radiates and so thankful I get to witness us both get our happy endings ❤️✨
You're so kind thank you! ❤
Hey man! Sweet stuff. At 19:30 you say, don't put the gasket between the manifold and the carb. Is that still stands? Can you please elaborate it a bit? You mean you should have put it right onto the intake and between that black manifold panel instead? Thanks & Lovely BrapPs! <3
Im curious im working on practically the same project 12a on aces did you ever get the rpms to read correctly on the killshot? Ive been have trouble reading at half the actual rpms
It will never read properly until aces allows a cylinder select function. You can tune it just fine though. Halve your rpm like for example in the fuel table. Use 500rpm for tuning at 1000rpm of engine speed. 2500rpm in the table for 5000rpm on the engine, etc. It runs great besides that. Fires up first try every single time
@@wheresmy10mm sweet thank you keep up build it's coming along great!
I've been running one of these for a year, 81 Chevy Malibu w/a 454 BBC. It's running good, but it has never had that EFI reach in the window and start the car ability. But it runs good once it's started. My beef has always been the size of the throttle body. They designed this for something with a ton of hood clearance. Try to fit a low profile air cleaner over that throttle body, it's huge. They designed their own air cleaner but it's flat based, won't fit my Malibu.
What issue are you running into on start up? Mine fires right up every time I use first start. I had to adjust my start up air amount, kinda like pumping the gas to open the throttle blades. I also ran into the issue with it sitting too high. I took a hammer to my hood to fix that issue.... lol
how are the lines holding up?
Great! I havent had any leaks at all yet. I burned the gslse alternator out though. Waiting to get a new one lmao guess it doesn't like the 120amp draw....

I’m looking into the Holley sniper kit and heard about aces. Only thing I don’t like about aces is no fuel pump kit like the Holley includes
They offer the master kit with a full ptfe e85 safe fuel system I think

@@jacobgonzalez1756 hell yah, I got you
I'm late to this video, but hell yeah man. Wicked video. Nice to know I'm not the only one who's shredded bearings, when I was reading through forums people made it sound like bearings almost never need replacing, I'm starting to think that might be BS lol. Noticed you're running without a few of the dizzy wires, are you running only leading plugs or something?
The forums are great and have helped so much. But I get the feeling there's a lot of BS on there lmao I gutted the leading igniter and soldered the insides so that its just a magnetic pickup and I'm using an MSD 6al digital to fire both leading at the same time. I plan on running this engine very high in the rpm range pretty often and I've read that the old school coil doesn't do very well about like 7500rpm sustained or something. I'll see if I can find the forum post about how to do it if you'd like to see! I'm happy both our cars are running strong now. I cant wait to see dyno numbers 😈
@gilesVessey you probably dont need this since you're running a 13b right? www.smbaker.com/sand-rail/mazda-rotary-conversion/msd-6a-direct-fire-ignition-for-mazda-rx-7-rotary-engine
@@wheresmy10mm very cool! I definitely gotta get mine on a dyno at some point, wish there was one in my province. Once I'm done of break in #2 I think I'm gonna time some 0-60s and hopefully not break anything lol. Me too man! I think it's safe to say we've put in enough sweat to deserve a few years worth of healthy braps
@GilesVessey Hell yes we do!
@@wheresmy10mm Just saw this now, we do have the same stock coil and distributor setup I think - I kept the stock dizzy setup alone apart from cleaning and greasing everything good and upgrading the coils to MSD blaster 2s just because it seemed like a good idea. Our engines are essentially exactly the same engine apart from my rotors and housings being 80mm thick versus the 12a ones being 70mm, we have the exact same irons, front housing, etc. Series 2/3 is where it's at
Thanks for the video! Was difficult to understand the process just by reading the manual, since I'm new to differentials.
Hell yeah you're welcome! Glad it could help. We're gonna be turboing the 5m soon so stick around if you'd like!
@@wheresmy10mm oh very cool! Yeah you make good videos, well done. I'd like to see the 5M turbo. I thought about it myself, but decided to go 1UZ hopefully this winter

@@wheresmy10mm dude I grew up on that show, heck yeah
Nice car
Never let a cat drive
She has her seatbelt, though
My advice is to avoid any system that has the ECU attached to the throttle body. I’ve already burnt one and now its replacement is shutting down when it gets hot.
That's exactly one of the reasons I switched. It's seems stupid to have it attached to one of the hottest areas in the whole car
So I suggest using a phenolic spacer this helps keep my sniper from being exposed to heat. Had same sniper going on 6 years
@@cfmechanicI’m glad you’re having better results. My Fitech preformed well right up to the point the fuel pump cutoff. Had the same issue two years after the factory update from the original. I did install spacer under Killshot. They also improved the throttle bearings, no more hard pedal to get off idle.
Carburetor? And by any chance how did you change the cluster?
Aces EFI fuel injection. Kinda like the holley sniper. I have a bunch of videos on my channel about running it and tuning it!

That's so nice. Thank you so much! 😁 My next one is gonna be even bigger in scope! 😈 I've just been calling her Goldie and Goldilocks lol
@@wheresmy10mm Old Gold baby ... Goldie... great name...
In the end I would say if they both had the same amount into their product the Holley is probably higher quality where as ace put way more into their cardboard box that’s gonna get thrown away 🤷🏻♂️ probably cheaper made
I've had a substantial amount of time to mess with the Aces unit now. Hands down the software lets you get far more out of the product than the Holley software did. That being said the forums for Holley have been around for many many years. Aces is still new and has a long way to go into terms of support for the tuning side of things. As far as quality of the product, and I had the sniper 2, the Aces is easily far better quality. The Holley sniper and sniper 2 are cheap and built like they were the only choice for people, which kinda was the case. And having dealt with both Holley and Aces customer service for months, Aces is just better. Holley has the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. I'll be doing an update soon with my thoughts on this unit after having run it for awhile now. Aces certainly isn't all rainbows and butterflies.
Engine looks dialed
I'm hoping so! Finally going to test drive it this weekend on the highway street legal and everything too. I'll throw up a longer video about all the quirks and stuff I ran into getting the aces unit to work. How's your build comin?
@@wheresmy10mmSweet, and going good so far. I still got to wire in the wideband, connect throttle cable and a accouple misc. fuel lines and it should be ready to fire.
@@mario4817 ohhh baby. Getting close!
How has it been working for you?
Good so far! The only issue I've really run into is getting the rpm signal to read correctly. There's no option to select 4 cylinder so it reads basically half the actual rpm so tuning is a little odd. But other than it runs great
Sounds much better. Finishing the wiring on my build now, cant wait to have that moment where you find out what it sounds like
It's definitely one of the best parts of working on cars, finally getting to hear it come to life. Good luck!!
Drop a comment if you post it on any socials. I'd like to hear it run
New to the channel, great stuff! Where did you get that dash mount setup? Looking to do something similar
