the Stephen King story mentioned in this podcast is WEEDS starring Stephen King as Jordy verril. but it was not a fungus he turns into, it is a plant, however King wrote another story in that same era called Grey Matter about a man who drinks moldy beer and he slowly becomes a fungus, sitting in his chair watching tv. the story can be found in King's story collection Night Shift, and was adapted in the pilot episode of the first season of the CREEPSHOW tv show on Shudder.

Good commentary, but a little too heavy on background things, and tidbits; which is good, but again, a bit too much. But then again, I'm more of person of commentating on what's going on screen that's happening, instead of behind the scene. Just my thoughts.

It's hard to believe that The secret of nimh is almost 40 years old and I have to say the story still holds up strongly to this day 2021.

Good review. In mt opinion, the real masterpieces of the BBC's 'A Ghost Story for Christmas', far surpassing even this are 'A Warning to the Curious', 'The Treasure of Abbot Thomas' and 'The Signal Man', with 'The Stalls of Barchester' not to far behind. It's at least the equal of the very best of the Karloff hosted 'Thriller' anthology show.

I really wish they had a backstory about that giant cat sofa lol! Maybe he had to say in in a previous adventure. Also he really must have wanted to be married to his daughter since that donkey was a real money maker!

This was a awesome commentary. This movie is leagues better than the 2019 movie. Also Ron Perlman is best Hellboy. Can't wait for Hellboy 2 The Golden Army commentary and you guys earned yourself a subscriber!

French here ! "Peau" is "skin" and "âne" is "donkey". This movie is very popular and it is without a doubt for kids. I don't know how well known the tale is in other countries but here it 's like cinderella, children will probably already know the story before watching. And yes, the incest is not censored, even in children's books. I have a theory about the backstory of the king and the fairy : Peau d'âne is the sequel of Cocteau's la Belle et la Bête, the king is the Beast. So the reason he is in conflict with the fairy is because she is the one who turned him into a beast. She is maybe also the same fairy who cursed the old woman in Les Fées (an other fairy tale by Perrault, the more you know). Theory #2 : the parrot is the fairy in disguise.

I first saw this film as a naive 12 year old in 1973, and it stayed in my mind for years. I understand everything you are saying, but you are talking from a 2020s POV. Back in the 70s? This film was incredible. Stanley Kubrick turned down “The Exorcist” cuz he was caught up in the controversy of this film, at the time. Just imagine what Kubrick would have done with The Exorcist?
