@@LonnaRaeDHD there are a couple of reasons, mainly it is so you don’t accidentally get all the background colour, eg, a white box, saved at the same time which would then look rubbish on your product, but also having a transparent background gives you more flexibility further down the line. Great question. So it depends where you do it. Some POD platforms will charge a membership fee once you have listed a certain amount of designs or products. (Society6 does that, but their products are high quality and there are some fun ones on there, so you kind of forgive them!) But most are free. Redbubble takes a percentage of your royalty on their most basic account, but at least with that you aren't actually paying anything out. If you decide to sell your POD via your own website, you will pay a hosting fee to the website company, such as Shopify. But, and especially if you want to sell to the UK market regardless of where in the world you are, I'm going to be sharing videos soon telling you about POD123 that has NO hosting fees whatsoever. Amazon's print on demand dept is called Merch on Demand and that is free, though you have to apply for an account. Books with Amazon KDP are free too and you can start that any time. It really is a tremendous business model.
