Thinks like a consumer of reporting, I agree with most of what you said, but whether the policy is good or not is something I'll judge. If journalist want to discuss policy, then they need to report it's contents in a sophisticated way, and frankly, they are rarely qualified to do so. I was disappointed in Dan’s response to the question about police who died due to Jan 6. First, Officer Sicknick died the following day after having collapsed in the police HQ after being sprayed with bear spray. The DC Coroner ruled that he died from the affects of two strokes which were technically ruled natural causes but which he ruled that his Jan 6 injuries played a role. The other police died of suicide, but mental health injuries from trauma are no less significant than other physical injuries. Officer Smith who was beaten with a metal pole and suffered injuries struggled emotionally following the attack, he killed himself the day he was ordered to return to work. Officer Liebengood was attacked on Jan 6 but kept working long shifts through Jan 9. He killed himself when he finally got home on the 9th. Dan’s answer that saying police died was a lie does a disservice to those officers and doesn’t provide sufficient understanding of the situation. Do better.
