Looks like a knit stitch.
I’ve recently been slipping the second stitch purlwise, then completing as usual, it helps it to sit a little flatter. Give it a try, see if you like it.
Fun tip! Yes, it can be worked in a few ways and I do like the second slip purlwise method, too! Thanks.
Thank you, very useful :> what yarn did you use for this?
Thank you! I used Yarn Snob Yarns "A Wondrous Worsted" - www.yarnsnobyarns.com/
Can you pearl into the first stitch, that is, the slipknot?
Yes, you could absolutely purl into the slipknot to work the first cast on stitch purlwise.
@@ShainaBilow thanks ever so much
Thank you so much! I may understand this yet!
Amazing! I bet you will - happy knitting!
You are very good!...
Thanks so much! Happy seaming!
This didn't work. I still have the extra stitch.
Hmmm... I wonder what went wrong. Can you double check your count before and after the join? Once the stitches are joined, you'll combine two stitches into one, thereby subtracting that extra stitch.
Thank you so much! What a nice clear explanation
I'm so glad you liked it! Happy knitting!
Oh my ghad, the 2nd one is a heaven sent technique, I'm a crocheter and have been really struggling with knitting bad badly want to learn. I've watched so many tutorial, twisted my yarns and fingers but still couldn't get the purl to do the thing. The middle finger technique (tho I used my pointer) did the trick, I'm in my 2nd row and hopefully I'd see that V stitch (so much for a beginner and I put myself through this😂) but really THANK YOU
YAY! I'm so glad that you found the video helpful and that it clicked for you! Happy knitting!
is this the same as a purl stitch? forgive me, i’m an amateur knitter who does a scarf or blanket every so often 😆
Hi - this is NOT the same as the purl stitch. The purl is the reverse of the knit stitch. The knit is worked with yarn in back, needle starting out going up the stitch. The purl is worked with yarn in front, needle starting out going down the stitch.
Thank you, thank you. So well done.
I'm so glad it helped you! Happy seaming!
Thanks so much I was wondering about the side the wool should be on ❣️😂
It's one of those things that somehow gets skipped over in a lot of beginner knitting lessons - Glad it helped you. Happy knitting!
Perfectly explained, thank you!! ❤
Thank you!! I'm so glad it helped you.
Do You have to carry the 2 colors all the time ??
That's typically the way stranded colorwork is done - since it's a repetition of colors in one row or round. Other colorwork techniques like Intarsia, striping, or mosaic knitting don't require two colors to be held at once. Happy knitting!
Thank you for such clear, direct, simple and effective instructions !!
Thank you so much! Happy seaming!!
Thank you!!!! I love that this video was so straight to the point 😅
Thanks! I try to make my videos that way - I know we watch them because we're in the middle of a project and want to get back to knitting! Enjoy and thanks again for your comment.
this is so helpful! 🙏🏼
Thank you so much! I'm glad the video helped you.
Thank you! Clear, precise and simple! 🥰
Thanks so much - I'm glad you enjoyed it. Happy knitting!
Excellent. Thank you!🎉
Enjoy! Thanks for watching.
As a crocheted in trying to knit since so long , you are the first person who explained it so nicely
I'm so glad that my video was helpful to you! Happy knitting.
so practically crocheting with knitting needles
Very similar. The yarn wraps the opposite way around the knitting needle, though, so that's an important piece to note, otherwise your stitches will be twisted.
soooo helpful - thank you! Love the easy to remember "the stitches point to the seams" and the A/V way to look at it.
Thank you! I'm so glad my video was helpful to you. Happy seaming!
You are so good at teaching knitting!
Thank you so much! That's very kind of you to say. Happy knitting!
Lovely ❤
Thank you!
Me like 🫨
Thank you for this! Very clear. Now I can start my sweater pattern that uses this cast on, which is new to me.
I'm so glad the video is helpful to you! Happy knitting!
Super duper! Thank you so much for this short informative video! It is a treasure.
Thank you so much!! Happy knitting
you're the best!
Aww, thanks! Happy knitting!
this was perfect thank you
I'm so glad it helped you! Happy knitting.
Dang wish i saw this before i completely unraveled my 12th almost acceptable attempt at a sock😅
Oh, no! I hope the sock is coming along nicely now!
@@ShainaBilow the sock is kind of coming out okay, I feel like the more I unravel because of small mistakes the better I get with each attempt.
@@miuchan107 I definitely learned a LOT ripping out projects and re-working them when I was a beginning knitter. You're on the right track!

Your teaching is so clear. Thank you so much!
Thank you! That means a lot. I'm glad this video helped you.
What size knitting needles please ?
It's dependent on the yarn. I'm using worsted weight yarn with size US 8 (5 mm) circular needles.
Oh yeah, this is like crochet! Loovveeee the cross over!
Be sure you wrap the yarn counter-clockwise around the knitting needle rather than the clockwise way for crochet. Happy knitting!
Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for! ❤
I am so glad! Happy Knitting!
Thank you! So helpful. I come back to this video every time I have to attach shoulders. Maybe some day I won't need it, but I'm not holding my breath!
I'm so glad the video is helpful for you! The more you seam, the easier it gets! Keep up the great work.
After crocheting for 5 almost 5 years I wanted to learn knitting. Thank you this helped so much!
I am so glad the video helped you. Happy knitting!
😊merci
I'm glad you liked the video!
Thank you so much for making a video with two different colors I can finally do it.
I'm so glad the video was helpful for you!
Great ! What if I only know English style knitting ? What now ?
Practice working Continental Style knitting so you can carry the yarns in both hands.
Never heard of English style referred to as American. Interesting.
It's called a LOT of things, really! I've heard it called English, American, and Throwing.
Thank you VERY much, this has really helped me to join smoothly in the round! 😊
I am so glad!! Happy knitting!
Love your video. Could I ask you to show us what it looks like underneath after you do that mattress seeming of the shoulder? Do you end up having a ridge on the wrong side that would be uncomfortable for the person wearing the sweater? Thank you for your help.Annabelle
My newer seaming videos will show the seam: ua-cam.com/video/D84gaMnoXyA/v-deo.html This video shows the inside of the sweater around 6:55 There will be a "seam" on the inside of the sweater. I personally haven't encountered a seam that was uncomfortable on my body unless the garment itself was too tight - and then that's not really the seam that's the issue. Nearly all of the store-bought sweaters and garments we purchase have seams in them, so it doesn't phase me to have seams in my knits. They add structure and strength.
I’m knitting my 3rd ever sweater project (actually a cardigan) made from Red Heart Hygge yarn. I love the idea of using different yarn for setting in the sleeves and seams. I also love how simple you make things.. how you broke down the stitches and how they’re shaped and why you’re choosing the stitch locations you choose. Thank you. Seaming has been my bane since I started to seriously knit 4 years ago. This is a huge, huge help!
I am so glad that my tutorial resonated with you and is helping you approach seaming your sweater (congrats!) with more confidence and eagerness!
Finally a great tutorial can't wait to try! I've learned the putting on part but not where to go from there!
I'm so glad the tutorial helped you! Happy knitting.
I love you
I'm glad the tutorial helped you!
