As a complete Smiths obsessive, this and HKIMN are the only songs that I dislike by them.

I love The Cure, Boris Williams is very good, especially in A Night Like This and Now's The Time, but to me Fascination Street seems heavily copied from Malcom McLaren's Bufalo Gals, you can listen to it and see that it is clear.

This is actually the multitracks of the vocals ? How did you get this? Crazy how it sounds auto tuned … maybe it was done to these files after the fact or my mind is playing tricks. Good old soundcraft 2400.

Don’t think this was double tracked but my guess is there was a signal going to his SVT which is the treble/ overdriven part that you hear and the other going to the board which is the low end you hear underneath. Anyways, one of my favorite bass line and it’s really the highlight of the song. Loved playing this to warm up my picking hand before a gig.

You can really hear the 50s rock n roll guitar style influence in this song.

Back in the day, one could literally hear this song pushing up through previous boundaries to bring a new level of complexity and beauty never before heard.at that time.. Like someone else here said, it "raised the bar" for all music of its day. I could literally experience that bar raising the first time I heard this song, which was on its first day of release in London.

A masterclass in percussion, engineering, and songwriting

This song drives me fucking crazy as a bass player. Did Andy ever play it the same way twice? First of all can we all decide which key its in? Here it's in A Major but other times it's in B Major. Sometimes it sounds like he tunes it down five cents just to fuck with you. He plays it one way on the self titled album and totally different on the Peel Sessions version on Hateful of Hollow. I heard him play it at one of Johnny Marrs live shows and he played it different yet again. The guys a masterful bassist but as a perfectionist that likes to play songs the way they were written he drives me absolutely crazy.

Im not a drummer(and never will be. not for lack of trying. not enough drugs? again not for lack of trying) and Im trying to learn to program/sequence 'em.. around :42-43 there is a sound a almost like bass guitar rumbling/growl, what is it? a type of drum or a technique? its subtle and quick. BTW thanks for these breakdowns. Im learning. kind of

Will Sergeant says he never really knew what he played exactly in the intro. It’s was just something he was mucking around with that the engineer picked up and looped onto the tape because he thought it sounded cool.
