Short video of my progress 12 days post op for bilateral knees. I believe my recovery is due to my hard work that I did to have the exceptional strength and stamina that I knew I would need for recovery. I have never had pain above a 4 while in the hospital and I am now working on cutting meds out. I usually take 2 oxycodene before bed and 1 tablet when needed during the day. My pain level whil...

      Watched some videos, lucky you! I wonder if he's telling his students some anecdotes from his movie American Shaolin from time to time...? In any case, seeing a former 'Shaolin Master' ending up far up north the US a few decades later, running a school and being a photgrapher, I must say: life is funny, isn't it :-)

    • @jacobudontneed2know407
      @jacobudontneed2know407 6 років тому

      Yes Indeed! As part of the introduction some clips of his films (American Shaolin, Dark Drive, Ricochet River and Superfights) are played and occasionally he'll give us tips on how to look good for show but he is certainly not just acting in martial arts he knows what he's doing! :)

    I've been going through your videos regarding the surgeries and replacements, particularly the knee replacements. I too am a lifelong martial artist (actually, we're in the same neck of the woods), and used to spend lots of time climbing the high cascades. Never gave a thought to those 75 pound packs, and the damage I was doing to my legs coming down slopes. I had been hoping to avoid knee replacements, but given the accelerating rate of deterioration, and the level of constant pain, I have to take a second look at it, and decide whether its for me. Your videos have told me more about the process, and the recovery, than any doctor or medical person I've spoken to. Thanks for that.

    idk how I didn't have pain I had the partial or hemi shoulder surgery 3 days ago and I am in agony pain I can't sleep more than a couple hours a night. It's miserable and I am in excellent shape but I let my shoulder go 4 years before I finally had the operation. But they did not give me a sling like the one you have on just basic where did you get that one and what is the name of it

  • @56Gumball
    @56Gumball 7 років тому

    You must be pumped so full of drugs to be able to walk like that just 4 days after a bilateral operation. I'm an extremely fit road cyclist and I had to use a stick for a whole 7 days after a relatively simple unicompartmental op., but I was only taking paracetamol as a pain inhibitor and it took me 15 days before I was able to ride a short journey on my bike. I think you're videos might be giving folks false hopes for a quicker than normal recovery rate when in fact the majority of post knee op. patients take many painful weeks or even months of physio to recover, not to mention the numerous sleepless nights. Just my 2c.

      You are welcome. That is why I made the video to help others know that you can have a great outcome if you prepare and stay positive. It has been almost 4.5 years since my replacements. I had my shoulder replaced March 9th and I think the recovery is much harder than the knees.

    Cliff, Thank you for taking the time to document your recovery. You inspired me to work hard on my rehab. I had bilateral total knee replacement 1/13/2017, I am almost where you were at 3 weeks post op. I am 65 and in good shape with a few extra pounds on me, (not in as great of condition as you), but a major part of my motivation is to be capable of getting back into the gym and back into my P90X routine. I am very pleased with my recovery, am driving, walking stairs and use a cane in public. Have a ways to go but am straight on my left knee 4 degrees off on my right knee and both are at 109 degrees bend. Many have indicated that bilateral knee replacement is very difficult but having a positive mental attitude and the drive to work my rehab is paying off. I have stiffness and aching/burning in my knees at night. I stopped all pain meds after one week but have gone back to taking pain meds at night which has helped me have restful sleep which is needed for my recovery. Your videos have been very influential in my recovery! Thank you again. Best Regards, Gary Zimmer.

    I appreciate your sharing of your experience. I think it best you let people know that your results are not common. You are in GREAT physical shape and have practiced martial arts, teach it etc for years. When i had this operation, as I did two weeks ago, the timeframe for recovery will likely not be like yours. After two weeks, I can walk with a cane/walker but am in a lot of pain. I think it will turn out well. Thanks for understanding

      It's great that we have joint replacements. Imagine what it would have been like 200 years ago. I was scheduled to have my shoulder replacement but I may have cancer in my right kidney. The good thing it was found early and if it is cancer my kidney will be taken out before my shoulder is replaced.
