Replacing Flapper Door / Mullion on French Door Fridge [Maytag Fridge]
Model #: MFB2055FRZ00
This video shows you how to replace the flapper door / mullion on your French door fridge.
Steps
1.) Test the door by opening and closing it multiple times. Try and identify where the issue is, and go slow if you need to. In my case, I noticed that the center hinge on my flapper door was cracked and not closing properly.
2.) Turn off power to the fridge. Either by turning it off at the circuit breaker or simply unplugging it. I opt to unplug it because I wanted to move the Fridge to clean behind it.
3.) Open the left side door (which is where the mullion/flapper generally is), and flip the flapper door outward. Using a Philips-head screwdriver, unscrew the middle screw and don't worry about the grey circles above and below the screw, they are not relevant.
4.) Once unscrewed, unhook the plug connecting the flapper to the fridge by simply pressing down on the plastic switch.
5.) Next, pop the flapper by tapping it from the bottom to slide it out of the grooves. There are two groves on the bottom and top of the Fridge door.
6.) Install the new flapper the exact same way as the previous steps but in reverse.
My fridge model:
Brand: Maytag
Model: MFB2055FRZ00
Warranty: Maytag fridges, come with 10- year limited parts warranty. In my case, this specific part was not covered so it didn't apply to me. Even if you do not have a Maytag fridge, always check the warranty on it, to see if you can simply get a replacement part covered.
I unfortunately had to buy a new flapper which was a costly replacement. $200+ as of February 2024. In case you need to replace your flapper as well, here is the part number for my specific fridge: WPW10624450.
