I am out here camping at Saddle Mountain.. This sky is turning orange over in the east and it's my fourth day here. I found some incredible specimens of chalcedony up on the mountain. I don't know much about fire agates but I know that I love this area it's my second time here.. from Central Texas. My main hobby is gold prospecting , I like to use a stream sluice, but geology and mineralogy is also fascinating. This is a lovely place even without the fire agate and the chalcedony. Thank you for posting this, because it gives me more of an idea of what I'm looking at here.
Hello Randle. Welcome to Arizona. It is not easy finding the good stuff. Many of the colorful pieces are small. One good thing is that I suspect all our rain this year has exposed much new material, so don’t give up. Sometimes you only get a small glimpse of what’s inside. But those Arizona desert sunrises and sunsets are worth the visit to. Keep looking and good luck my friend.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I've been here for three or four days ... I went into the store at Buckeye and restocked, because I just can't be done with this place, yet ..LOL
When he said he been there 20 years never brought a screen I stopped watching
This is the place that got me into searching for fire agate. Ended up staying in kingman for a while and got the chance to search around oatman. If you get the chance, it is definitely worth checking out. Would like to watch more of your hunting.
Great finds enjoyed the video
Hey! Thank you. Glad you watched. My buddy Finder moved away, so i haven’t been back there lately. I will return soon soon and hope you watch. Love your channel by the way, keep up the good work. Good luck out there. Cheers!
I've been looking for a place closer to phoenix to find fire agate. Most places are super far like 5hours.
WE LOST A WEDDING RING TODAY! JULY 31,2021!! After the big rapids!!! If you find it we will pay you!! It’s gold and it something fun on the inside of the ring!! It’s white & brown with a blue line!!!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU READING THIS COMMENT! (480) 567-6659 text me a picture if you find it!!
Oh, I’m so sorry you lost that ring. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, but I just spent a month in the hospital and have been recovering. Due to that I have not been able to do any detecting. It would really require you to show me where you think you lost it because I dont normally detect there during the summer, mostly in the winter when the water level is low.
Any restrictions or rules around detectors at the salt river? Do you need a permit? Can you up to the lake as well?
Hi Joseph, Not really any rules, but they do require you to buy a day pass to do anything over there. I don't know how often they check and enforce that. Day pass is $8 and any store near there carries them. There is a ton of trash there so be ready to hear alot of beeping from your detector. And if you go early be prepared to get your heart stopped by the wild horses, they sneak up on you, ;0) Despite all the trash, it is one of my favorite places to detect. GL and hope you bring home the gold.
@@haloeffect8753 oh ya. I have been fishing up there for years. Love it. Always get the day pass. One time I was up there and the horses came down to the water about 30 yards from me. Then later I saw a bald eagle fly overhead. Was an amazing day!
Been to Saddle Mountain twice .... Didn't find diddly squat! However, on the AZ/NM state line is a place called Round Mountain Rockhounding Area. Found two nice pieces, sparkling as pretty as a new penny, in the daytime Sun. Just sitting there, on the surface! Didn't even need polishing, they were naturally polished. To get there, take Hwy 70 from Lordsburg, NM. Proceed NE, until you come to the intersection with road A028, and take a left. If you reach the intersection with Hwy 92 N. you've gone too far. Turn back around and look for the intersection with A028, but on the right this time. Proceed down A028 until you come to a set of railroad tracks. Cross the tracks and continue down A028. You will eventually come to an intersection with a road that splits off to the left. There should be a sign there indicating the direction to the rockhound area, and a type of wood podium with a sign-in sheet. If you miss the sign and the podium, you will end up driving right into the middle of a ranch (House, corrals, pens, etc.). This is your indication that you've missed your turn. Turn back, but this time look for the sign/podium on the right. The fire agate can be found on both the left and right side of the road, from the sign/podium, all the way down to the end, where the road circles back onto itself. Best time to go is right after a light rain. While we were there, it drizzled for about an hour and wet down the massive amount of chalcedony in the area. The bright Sun came out afterward. This made it easy to spot the shiny fire agate. I collected two pieces, about the size of your thumbnail. One had the bubbly botryoidal agate in yellow and orange, while the other piece had yellow, orange and red colors.
Patrick Lanclos sorry to hear your trips didn’t pan out. I can’t say I’ve ever been skunked at Saddle Mountain. I hope you had fun looking anyway. Did you post any video on that other site? I would be interested in seeing it. I have heard of it before but it is a longer trip to search there. I hope you don’t completely give up on Saddle Mountain. Be sure and watch some of Mitch Belles videos. He may have a few better spots to. Take care and hope to see some of your finds.
Research mud fossils Geology that was once biology research the anatomy of elephants to see what you have Fire agate was once living tissue You’ll find eyes, toe nails, teeth, musk glands, tusks trunks etc
Jane Threes Hmmm.... That is something I have never heard before. I will look into that more. I know they are changing their stance on how old fossils are also, that they can recover tissue from inside dinosaur bones. It is all really fascinating. Thank you for the info.
I hope with time you have learned a little more since you posted this. because I do believe-no-I'm sure you are mistaken unless you're trying to be silly. In that case haha
Hi let me know when your ready to find some spots out there
Mitch Belles Hey, Ive seen your vids, good content. I am ready to go anytime. I need the exercise, lol! When are you going?
My Aunt searched for agates in this area for years before she passed away. Her polished gems were quite valuable and she produced quite a few a year. She told me there is a method to finding high grade stones in this area. If you'd like to make a trip with me after summer is over let me know and we can go get some truly great agates. 😊
Tricia Muterspaugh I pretty much have been to all compass points on Saddle Tricia, unless you know of a hidden cave somewhere.
That would be fun! Your right, its way to hot right now. Would be fun to get everyone together when it cools down. Just say the word.
@@mitchbelles8080 I just thought it would be fun. I wasn't trying to be competetive and I apologize if it sounded that way. No, no cave. But she always told me you had to find a stream bed and dig down no less than 2.5 ft and no more than 3 ft to find the best fire agates. All the videos I've seen on UA-cam appear to be surface searching only. I like to go but it would be more fun with other people to go with.
Hi I'm planning on visiting my daughter in Phoenix next week and was wondering if there's public access easily gotten to. I'm coming from Montana and would love any information or suggestions. Great video
Hi, glad your coming here to visit. Its a good time of year. From Phoenix, drive Interstate-10 west to 411th Avenue (Exit 94) in Tonopah, about 45 miles west of downtown Phoenix. Go south for 2.7 miles to Salome Road, then right (west) a little over five miles to a Y-split, with Courthouse Road on the left. Stay on Courthouse about 0.7 mile to a dirt track, BLM Road 8211, on your left (south). You'll see a kiosk/signboard nearby. Drive south on this road about a mile to its end. There is a cleared parking area with some fire rings. The ground here is a red-brown color. BLM-8211 is slightly rocky but not bad. A passenger car should be able to handle it. If not, park where convenient and walk the road. I'm thinking you won't have any problems. Good luck and have a great time. 1
Having a great time here with my granddaughter. Looks pretty picked over but finding some. Thanks for your help and information
Dave Waggoner glad you made it! It is tough but there is plenty to be found. Plus look at the boulders to, because i have friends that found some small veins of good quality in boulders near the mountain. My best to you and your family.
Loved your video and the Agates you found. I just took my first trip to saddle mountain 3 days ago and had an amazing experience. I was a bit closer to the mountain then your point of view but I still found some great pieces.
Hey, thats great! Glad you enjoyed the video and even better that you had such a great time there yourself. From what I understand the agates are all the way to the mountain. I usually just have found such great pieces where I was that I havent ventured too close to the mountain in some time now. Supposedly there are veins of agate on the mountain. Take care and enjoy those agates and the memories.
Thank you. If you don’t mind me asking gir far back are you? I’m heading back in a few days.
Eric Schmidt I was a little further than half way to the mountain. But I have found good pieces right up to the road. Its all a matter of persistence and a little luck. Hope you find some big colorful ones next time you go. Have fun and be safe.
Hiya, I enjoyed watching, your search. It's always very interesting how different agates can be around the world. Very cool drone shots too, thank you
Hello, thank you for your positive feedback. I love searching Arizona for her hidden gems and treasures. Saddle Mountain has always been a favorite of mine. I am hoping to go back and search for some indian hieroglyphs that are there, as well as some more fire agate. So keep on the lookout for my next vid, :o)
@@haloeffect8753 Heck yea that sounds very cool. I will keep an eye out for it, Saddle mountain is beautiful and looks like it has many stories to share with you yet. Have fun 🌟😁
Thanks for the ride-along with you. I at one time lived in San Diego, CA so I was all over there including parts of Mexico and Arizona. I feel like I have been there, however, I was never there at Saddle Mountain. Your fire opals we're magnificent. Love them. God Bless.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed. Try and get out there sometime, you definitely wont be disappointed. If you need any info feel free to message me. Happy hunting!

HALO EFFECT Thanks brother
HALO EFFECT Hey brother one more question lol am i able to go in car maybe park and walk ? Or do I definitely need a truck
I was detecting lower salt River just the other day. So many taps and junk. Any suggestions?
big gym yes, that is the problem. Unfortunately your going to have to dig alot of those. Dont get discouraged. Keep digging and believe that next signal could be gold. Winter is when the water run is most shallow. Try to get out where the tubers have floated through. Maybe get a good scoop to help you dig the targets in the river. I made a floating sifter to use with my scoop. The gold and coins are out there just stay positive. Maybe we will see you out there, good luck.
@@haloeffect8753 I purchased a historical book today. It's shows all the places where old towns were once standing here in Arizona. It shows Camelback mountain and all the old shacks, houses, old events that took place there around the 1800's early 1900's. I wonder if mental detecting is open there(Camelback mountain)would like to spend the day there swinging the detector.
So all those pieces at the end you found there? Very nice...Are they just lying around or in matrix?
Hi there, yes all those pieces are from Saddle Mountain. They lay right on the surface. I did show one piece in the matrix at the beginning. The photo was to show how the gems formed in pockets and then weather out of the matrix. Many, i understand are found by digging near the mountain, but many are just on the surface. Also breaking some larger rocks open will reveal gems. Hope you get out there sometime. Lots of fun.

Need someone to take a look at a couple photos see if I am getting anything good. Love collecting. Anyone make jewelry?
Id be happy to look at the photos for you. Sometimes its more about the hunt then the value. As long as you have fun. If you want really good pieces you might look into going to find some deer creek fire agate. It is fee based collecting but some of those pieces are well worth the money to find them.

So I have been looking fo places where I can just hike and pick up fire agate around saddle mountain but I know some of the land is owned and there is no directions on how to get there anywhere. Can you help?

Great video please do away with the fisheye lensed go-pro adverse effects on migraines
Hi Andre! Thanks for the comment. I was worried about getting enough of the areas I was looking at in the camera shot. I think in general walking with the camera on me in itself makes it difficult to watch without getting a headache. But I will in the future use regular lens view and hopefully that will work out better. Thanks for watching and good luck if you get out there to look for some nice gems.
Best ones come from Ray mine area. Just dont get caught.
Oh yeah? I know a couple mines that are amazing but i think for the average rock hound this area is really good because of the variety of rocks you can find here and the scenery. Be safe and GL
@@haloeffect8753 u live in the valley?
Yes, i explore many mine sites from the Bradshaw mountains to the mines just outside of Tucson. There a a mine north of Tucson i go for cubed pyrite, really cool stuff. I hear there is a amethyst mine north of Phoenix where you can mine vug amethyst i have yet to try. But i have always liked the Saddle Mountain area. There is an area near there you get bucket fulls of obsidan with the catseye effect. So many places so little time.
HALO EFFECT there is an amethyst mine up in four peaks ! But I believe you have to pay to gain entry, they do charge a huge down payment then let you pick up a five gallon bucket to sift through and what ever you find you keep 😊 also down near superior there is an old mine and back roads you can drive down to find Apache tears, found some that are near golf ball sized and mildly clear
What's up pulltab man!!
Hey, Finder! How ya been? When we gonna hit the trails again?

HALO EFFECT is its pay dig free or don’t get caught deal lol??
@@chrisjrobbins4234 Hi! This is a free dig spot. It is land set aside specifically for rock hounds.
What do you use to clean off all the hard dirt ...to get them looking so nice
Hello JK XTC. I do 2 things. Some of them I use a rock grinding wheel to remove the top layer to expose as close to the fire layers without actually grinding into the fire layers, and others that are shown are cleaned with a wire brush and water to remove the hard packed dirt in the crevices. If I like what I see, I will polish what is called a window into the rock so you can see the colors well without water on it. Makes the decision of what is worth using much easier.
Have you seen any digs out there? I'm new to prospecting, and was just out here for fire agate yesterday, found a great spot and was wondering what kind of results digging would yield.
Hey Ziggy, I have seen small areas dug out but I am not sure if they were successful. I imagine it would be worth it if you find a spot where there is good material on the surface. The fire agate weathers out after rain. I have always wanted to bring a screen with me when going there. I will try it next time I go. If you beat me to it, let me know if it is worth it. Good luck!

Just a reminder that there are several mining claims staked in this area. Taking any minerals from a mining claim is illegal. Always make sure you know that you are not on someones claim before taking stones of any kind from the property.
Thanks for the reminder Steve, never be a claim jumper. My instructions for where to go are legit and not claimed. Be safe and HH!
Steve Karolyi legal is all perspective and belief. The laws of man mean nothing to me im free to prospect wherever. Claim or not. I carry and have had very few confrontation after a short chat with the "claim owner" and im off on there claim. Its not really a problem unless your stealing gold, and only if the claim is for gold.look it up you need a separate claim for each mineral you want to prospect. Mineral rights have been done away with 5 years ago.
Party pooper. Fuck the billion dollar mexican owned mine thats our land

i hunt in your area lol, but im surprised that you didnt find more bullets.
Stupid question. Why are you using a screwdriver to probe targets if you're not in a park or something? I live here in AZ too and LOVE when I actually get to use my spade. Groundskeepers tend to flip out when they see a shovel. Even if it is a predator
Tommy Ohlrich I was using a screwdriver because I misplaced my spade. Stupid me. All I had in the truck was a big screwdriver. Lack of planning on my part.
Ah. Now THAT makes sense lol
Ok Tommy, I visit there once in awhile because I have family there. I will let you know the next time I plan a hunting trip there. Till then I wish you success in your hunts.
I have tried the Salt River. And I found a few things. The interesting thing is I met a guy with an older Goldbug detector. He showed me a string that was tied around his neck that held about 25 gold and silver rings. He actually detects full time on the river and that is how he lives after selling the jewelry. I know there is much to be found on the river and this winter when the river is not running I will be there to hunt it and see what I can find. This winter I will try again and post finds
Hey if you ever make it down to tucson give me a shout! Ill show you some good hunting places.
Everyone says go in the wash. Salt river in phx Santa Rita in Tucson. The reality is that there is waaaaay too much garbage in the rivers. Their banks were landfills before we had trash pickup. So stay up on the bank and avoid the crap that's actually IN the river
So have you tried the salt river ? I live in the phoenix valley also, maybe search there?
