Beautiful work! If you wanted to add emphasis to the top, you could add tulipwood "edge banding" that's the same thickness as the pill shaped profile. Subscribed!

@@_cmyk_ it is, it’s about £170. Ive just got the Rotex sander, HKC55, and smaller domino, but you can pretty much make anything with those 3. I’m looking for a good used Festool extractor then that’s me done, drills/routers etc are good on any platform.

Just a heads up when using a roundover bit; you have to do less than 1/2 the thickness so that when you do the opposing side you have a place for the bearing to register. That's why yours are turning into crooked bullnoses, the bearing has nowhere to ride.

I've been at it for over 50 years and I think you made some wise choices. A good tracksaw and something like an MFT can do most of what a table saw can. Router table is also a great choice, I built my current model about 25 years ago (Norm Abrahams NYW clone) and never regretted it. I might argue that a good bandsaw might be ahead of a drill press. The Merka is a great machine but, too many clones at a fraction of the price and work just as well. People love to hate them but, a Domino would be a life changer for you. I did traditional joinery for many years before giving the Domino a try. They just make things so much faster and easier and if you're in this to make a living those two things matter.

I’ve never tried bent laminations, but my Dad’s gout stool runners eventually un-laminated, presumably because he used PVA glue instead of epoxy or another type of hard-drying glue. An innovative design with complex joinery, very nice.

I think I wouldn't have trimmed the dowels back to the leg like that. They would probably look good coming through the leg with maybe a bull nosed end. I think I would have tried drilling a hole through a square block to make a jig for drilling the offset holes in the legs. Nice project though. Although you seem to have a well equipped workshop for someone who's doing their first project.

When building your finish, always use high gloss even if you want the final look to be matte or satin. The coats should be fairly thin and sanded out a bit each time. The gloss will "build up" and create a lot of depth, so that your last two coats of matte or satin still have a lot of depth under them. I suggest to make yourself some sample boards with various finishes that you can show the customer the end result while in the design stage. write the steps on the back of each sample. I do this with joinery too to show things like mortise & tenon or sliding dovetails, etc. Doing veneer like that as a beginner is really tough- I have been doing this 40+ yrs and never try to use raw veneer like that. I will buy paper backed or it I cannot I will veneer super thin plywood and then use those panels as my now thicker and flatter veneered panels- you are edgebanding anyway so the extra thickness does not matter. The other way we can "fix" a bad veneer joint is by making that a "feature" and cut it out and inlay an accent strip. Stick with it, you'll get there.
