Eddieville Spring Opener 2024 1st Place Vet B Finish on my 2022 TM en300fi
Eddieville Spring Opener was Round 2 of the NMA Off-road Series hosted by the Over The Bars Gang on March 10th, 2024.
I was battling with the guy in 1st for 3 laps, until he hit some whoops wrong, went over the bars and crashed pretty bad. Ended up taking 1st even though my rear tire went flat with 2 laps to go. Luckily the Tubliss inner bladder held on and I was able to finish strong.

The 2023 Rimrock Grand Prix was a great race, with a lot of open space and rocks. This is the full Vet B race, raced on my 2022 TM Racing En300fi with TBI fuel injection. The bike ran amazing and felt good. The Gopro didn't capture any audio, so I added some music instead. I ended up taking 5th in Vet B, not super happy with the results, but I will work on improving for next year.

This is the test sections of the 2023 Webfoot Enduro which is part of the NMA Enduro Series of races. It was an ISDE style of enduro with transit sections and test sections. The transit sections are not timed, but made up the majority of the riding. This video is only the test sections. I ended up taking 3rd in the Vet B group.

Why did I buy a TM? 2022 TM Racing en300fi review

People were asking for another video, so I decided to explain why I bought a TM Racing dirt bike, especially the en300fi. Long story short, I got sick of hearing that KTMs (Husk, and GasGas too) are the best bikes. This is a quick update and review on a must have mod for any TM owner that has a TM with an electronic power valve. This Mod is called the "Arming Switch" by many and allows you to keep the ECU powered when the bike is stalled, so your power valve never goes through a reset during your ride. The days of your TM having low power and not running perfect after a stall are over! In order to do this...

Neat vid and hell of a start! I'm not a racer so it was cool to watch and track looks fun!
Thanks! Wish I had the free time to put some more time into editing, though. Maybe on future videos
@@dtr_downtoride yea I chop most of mine up into 10-20 sec clips and try t keep the duration less than 15 min. I'm a geek and find the editing process relaxing. I do have a monthly series called "Seven Minutes of Single Track" which is pretty much raw footage of one or two long clips. Easy to make and they give a true look at the trail. I like em but they honestly are not my most popular. ua-cam.com/video/EOoZBsWErF4/v-deo.htmlsi=zZZNMcXmYKkvQpNv
What tiers u use
Depends on what I'm riding. Trails I like the VE33S Gekkoda rear and M59 or X31 front. The VE33S does not last at all racing, though. The soft lugs are prone to ripping off. I've been using the X31 rear for Hare Scrambles lately.
the fuse, what capacity do you recommend?
5 amp should be plenty
@@dtr_downtoride thanks
Really impressive skills on the track sir! Made me tired just watching you. TM's are good machines. I have a 2021 TM 250 FI 2 T. It's a ripper!
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it! Was a little disheartened when my main bearing seized at 50 hrs, but fell back in love with the bike after installing roller main bearings.
50 hrs? that's too bad. Was that under warranty?
Weird challenge 😐
Great clutch control practice
Do you know if the 2024 model still has this issue? 🤔
I've heard it's been addressed in the 2024 models, but I haven't ridden one personally to know for sure.
Looks like my stomping ground at Walker. Sick bike.
Good eye, but I can neither confirm nor deny 😆
Where are these trails? Great video!
It's in the PNW, WA.
I went from a 2002 tm 125 to a 23 beta 200re. Dealer couldnt tell me when they were getting any tm's because they just bought the euro importers dealer.
I have a Beta 390RR-S and really love that bike. I've heard great things about the 200re too.
How is progress on the Roamer?
Unfortunately not, wife and I had our first child, which slowed everything down, and recently had our second. Camper is now sitting and waiting for me to have free time...
How awesome is that!!! Congratulations!!! If you ever decide to go a different direction from the Roamer, I would be interested. I have a dream retirement prese.nt for my wife in three years. Alaska with a pickup camper...👍🏼
@scotthop5161 we actually bought a 31ft toy hualer and my wife has been asking me to sell/get rid of it, so if you are interested in it, we can probably work something out.
I'm very interested. How could we connect?
@@scotthop5161 reach out to me on Instagram messenger @DTR_DOWNTORIDE
Is it wide ratio like tm racing 300 mx
No, the Enduros have a shorter gear ratio. Aren't the MXs 5 speeds? The Enduros are 6 speed.
Hi I am interested in the NMA Enduro series. I ran the Offroad Series last year and like the more woods single track. How long are these course? How long are you out on the track for?
They are all between 60 and 80 miles, it seems. I really enjoy both series but agree with you that single track is better. The Harescrambles have forced me to get better at fast open terrain, which is good.
nice riding and the gopro footage looks fantastic! that extra section for the long course looks like a ton of fun and I'm sad we didn't get to do it too.... but I was so tired by the last lap I would've been falling all over the place in the rocks 😂
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the lens Mod 2.0. The external mic just wasn't clicked in all the way. I really liked the extra section. I think you would have done fine in it. I was expecting to see people backed up, but there wasn't really.
Enjoyed the video. What did TM end up doing about the bearings that locked up? RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Thanks a lot! TM supposedly turned down my claim "supposedly". I think it was more due to the dealer I bought from not caring too much about pushing TM to warranty it. I replaced the ball bearings with roller bearings and have put another 50hrs on it with no issues. Pretty happy with it lately. Would love to test ride a 2024, as it sounds like they've made some improvements.
Could you post the whole lap? Nice send!
I have the whole race, but no audio. Gopro for the win 😆 I will post the whole race without audio.
Well done for getting a podium position
Thanks a lot. It seems my biggest hold back is my cardio/leg strength. Guess sitting at a desk all day isn't helping, lol. 3rd place has been a great motivator to get my cardio up for the last two races of the season. I am currently in 2nd for the Enduro series and 3rd for the off-road series. Got to finish strong, but I'm #DTR_DowntoRide !
you sure did cruise through and make it look smooth (even the tagging the tree)! After watching your starts I realize how much I need to improve mine 😁
My first test start was not smooth, I didn't realize it was a :30 start, so I probably lost a second or two while they said " go, go" lol`
How was the motor rebuild?
Rebuild went well, thanks for asking. The bike has been running good. I've put 50 hrs on the rebuilt motor so far. There are two more races this season, so fingers crossed 🤞
Perfect audio dont know why more cant iron this out how you can hear the bike in ((background )) And not muffle out your audio. 👊🏽👍🏽
Thanks a lot for this comment. I really appreciate it! 🙏
I love TM Racing, I have 2 of them a 2010 TM 250 Enduro, and a 2012 TM 300 MX of course both carbed models, never have a problem with either one of them, my opinion TM Racing build the best dirt bikes on the planet, they are just amazing machines!
I've had a couple issues with mine, buy I've seemed to have ironed them out. Bike ran great for my last enduro race and it looks like TM made some updates to the 2024 bikes that address the main bearing issue 👍
I'm no mech eng but using sealed bearings for this application does not make sense to me.
Yeah, I'm not sure what they were thinking. Looks like they made a change in the 2024 bikes to address this issue. That is one thing TM does well is make updates/improvements quickly on their new models.
@dtr_downtoride Hello, I'm sorry about what happened, I hope TM reimburses you for the cost of the materials for the reconstruction. A week ago I bought a 2022 TM 300 with 14 hours and I'm very happy with how it works, but when I saw your video of the engine breaking I went into panic mode. My previous 2021 Husky 300 enduro has 850 hours and in the engine I only had to change the piston three times. Could you tell us the brand and reference of the crankshaft bearings. I take this opportunity to thank you for the work involved in creating the content and sharing it. Greetings David
Thanks for the comment. The bearing was an SKF Explorer 6206-2RS1/C4GJN. I replaced mine with a beefier NJ206 roller bearing and at 90hrs with now further issues. If you are state side, Powerchicken Offroad and Dave Turner at Get Dirty Dirt Bikes our great resources. I need to make a follow up video going over everything, but have been very busy with work and a 1 year old. I have plenty for footage, just not the free time to edit.
I ride a 21 gas gas 300tpi & I have never had to fight with a bike this much in my life. Not much low end grunt I'm looking at TM, Beta, Sherco
yeah, the TPIs don't have the same low end. I wish I could get my hands on a new Beta and Sherco to have a direct comparison with and ride them back to back. Unfortunately, all my buddies seem to be riding TPI KTMs or Huskies lol.
to make youtube vids about it
correction, mediocre videos about it!
You said main bearing, where is it located? Clutch site or crankshaft site? Thanks!
thanks for the question, it was the crankshaft side
It looks like you are in the north west area? Good video
Yup, up in the Pacific NorthWet lol
Sweet me too!! Keep both wheels up right 👍
What front rotor guard is that
It's a Bullet Proof front rotor guard 👍
would like to see update video on bike after rebuild and thoughts. thats the bike i want the most, im sure they all have there problems time to time.
Hey, thanks for the comment! Sorry I haven't posted a recent video. Did 2 Harescrambles and an Enduro after the rebuild. The bike has been running good 👍 my gopros audio cut out during the last 2 races, so I didn't post them. I really do need to make some time to do an update video, though.
I know that TM is not well known outside Italy. That doesn't surprise me. TM as a small business have a very unconventional attitude to everything they do (marketing, business, technology, the materials they use, how they build components, etc ...). They don't follow the pack (e.g. KTM, Beta, etc ....). They don't care about following the pack. They make a certain number of bikes per year. They sell all of them. That's it. They don't compromise their ways just because they want to be well known like KTM or because they need to achieve target sales, etc... Anyway, for us having a TM is something special. Having ... eg. a KTM is stuff from a "chain restaurant", having a TM is stuff from a "local family run restaurant".
I really like this comment. It is probably one of the best explanations of TM that I've heard.
Well its pretty well known in Finland... considering you can get a license for 125cc bike at 16. I mean technically there is 11kw limit but in practice nobody cares. Husqvarna, KTM, Gas Gas, TM etc. enduros all have been popular since early 2000s or so. Way before the first three became essentially the same brand.
2022 and up Shercos are counterbalanced. I had a 2017 300 and now a 2022 300. It must work because I lost fasters left and right off the 2017, yet to loose anything off the 2022. The TM sure looks and sounds nice.
That makes a lot of sense, especially since their popularity here in my area has gone way up in the last 2 year's.
Since 1977
Thanks for the exact date! I'm surprised how many people in the US have never heard of them since they've been around for so long.
such a bummer, to say the least. I feel for you man, I really do. On that note, it will be really helpful if you would share your rebuild video. Also, do you know if they continue to use the same sealed bearings on the 2023 models? Thanks and looking forward to future videos.
I really appreciate the comment! I have 2 days of rebuild videos. I'm just not sure how much to include in the video, or if I should upload all of it and just split it up into chunks/ separate vids. As for the bearings, it sounds like TM may have stopped using the sealed bears somewhere in the 2023 production. I talked to someone that opened their 2023 motor and the bearing was not sealed 👍 it makes me wonder if they used the sealed because they couldn't get the other bearing during covid with all the supply chain issues. Let me know if you have anything specific you want to see in regards to the rebuild👍
@@dtr_downtoride First and foremost, thank you for the detailed reply, this is much appreciated. With regards to the build footage: I have zero authority on UA-cam content creation and can only share my own subjective thoughts - It will be really helpful to see the entire build process, step by step, end to end. Some brands a step in the process that require extra attention and care, and that is what I will be looking for in particular. I would assume that cutting the process into chunks according to topics would make sense. For example part A - disassembly, part B - assembly, part C - lessons learned and recommendations?
@Ariel Toron sounds good and thank you for your feedback! There is probably 18+ hours of footage on the rebuild, so it will probably take me a bit of time to edit it down to something people would actually want to watch 👍
I'm jealous you were able to push through the soreness/open wounds to race again Sunday. Congrats on the killer performance and finish... on a bike you built in ~10 days. An astonishing accomplishment all around!!
Thanks a lot! I don't think you'd be jealous of how pissed my wife was with me being in the garage all night for over a week 😅
Congrats on the strong ride and finish.
Thanks a lot! I might not be the fastest, but I can keep my pace, and it pays off in the long Harescrambles 👍
where his this country ??
The Pacific Northwest in the US
cool course!
Yeah, I really enjoyed this venue. Had a bit of everything and was a higher speed Harescramble compared to others.
Where are you riding? It looks awesome!
Pacific Northwest or Northwet depending on who you ask 😆
I have a 2016-2018 TM EN 300 with a carburator, this is absolutely the best bike i have ever owned. :) I like Carb because you can repair it on your own, fuel injection i didnt know how to do it. ^^ on the 2016-2018 model there is no e start, just kicker and i love that. :D
People overall see to like the carb version more. After my fueling issues, having a carb would have been easier to adjust. Learning to use the software was much more difficult 😆
@@dtr_downtoride I would love to try an TM EN300 FI Bike, to compare the fuel injection against the Carburator. I was astonished of the Power in the Middle RPM by the Carb edition, after Buying the J.D. Jetting Kit with new Needle etc. The big plus of the FI is when you do a lot of evalation. I do about 1000m/3280ft peak hight per ride and you can feel the Power changing, but you have two Maps on the Bike which do it. You learn to use software is also a good thing. ;)
@0n3h1td0wn This is a reason why I wanted FI where I live has many different elevation changes, and I didn't want to worry about jetting every time I rode somewhere.
@@dtr_downtoride Make absolut sense. :) The main goal is to have fun. have a good day. :)
how many hours does the engine have, Will there be a video showing the bearings and discussing the problem?
Bike has 50 hours, parts should be here tomorrow, and I'll start splitting the engine. I'll see about making a video and discussing the failure and what might help prevent it in the future 👍
@@dtr_downtoride making a video of the rebuild would be fantastic, keen to hear your opinion! Have a 2022 TM EN carb model with only 6 hours on it. So far so good and absolutely loving it so fingers crossed! Thanks for all your good videos!
@Damien Morales have some pics of the rebuild on Instagram. I filmed the whole thing, probably 8 plus hours of footage, so it will probably take some time to edit down. Had some setbacks that added a bunch more time to the rebuild, most were on me having never worked on a TM before, some were due to a lack of clarity in TMs manual, and others were just luck I suppose 😆
Damn, rough go :/ You were riping a good pace though👍🏻👍🏻
First lap I was definitely feeling out the mud and seeing how hard my front end would let me push it. 2nd laps I started feeling really good, then bam! No more fun 😅
@@dtr_downtoride Shoot! Well I'm looking forward to seeing any vids from the D100 on the proper beast👍🏻
@Damon Stangherlin didn't make D100 this year, was healing up from back to back races in Odessa the weekend before D100. Will have a video for the Sunday race soon 👍
I hope they have addressed this and fixed this issue. I am picking my brand new one up in under a month...this will be my first brand new bike, every other bike I bought broken and fixed myself. I want to be able to just ride this year.
Which model did you pick up 2023 en 300 fi 2T? sounds like TM was using both an open bearing and a sealed bearing in the EN models, so its hard to say. This was my first ever brand new bike as well... pretty frustrating. Was sick of working on bikes and just wanted to ride. Hopefully this is the last of the issues.
@DTR DOWN TO RIDE I have the 2023 en 300 fi 2t pink edition on order. Expecting to pick it up at the end of this month. I rebuilt my 01 ktm 300 2 times in 2 years, and had a bearing in the case let go late last season. (2nd top end was caused by the carb slipping out of the boot intake boot 4th pinned)
@Nate11 nice choice 👌 those limited editions are very cool bikes. Hopefully, they went with the higher quality roller bearings on the limited edition bikes. I'll probably do a video on the motor rebuild, since their really isn't much for videos on TMs. I'm not a professional mechanic though. Just a guy that knows enough to get by 😆
@DTR DOWN TO RIDE I spoke with the dealership I am getting the bike from. They let me know that they reached out to TM and from what I was advised they can tell from the VIN # which bearing is in it. I was also told they have stopped using the sealed bearings.
@Nate11 I was talking to someone with a 23 and it sounds like his main bearing were open ball bearings as well. I hope the main bearing issues are a thing of the past now 🤞
Know it's disappointing having faith in your equipment to take a beating and be there at the end. Then a failure in a part such as a crank bearing. KEEP ON TRUCKING!
Yes it is, Parts are on their way, though! I ended up building a KDX220R in just over a week to use for the next race. It was a blast to ride but didn't have the power or suspension of the TM. Hopefully, this will be the last of the major issues with the TM. Otherwise, I'll just keep racing the KDX220R 😅 working on the next video 👍
@DTR DOWN TO RIDE are the bearings going to be the same sealed bearings or like the ones in the MX bike?
@Henry Hawk great question! I asked Get Dirty Dirt Bikes to send me the MX roller bearings. They are about twice the cost, but I will get a credit back if and when TM accepts my warranty claim. I didn't want to wait for the warranty to be accepted and parts shipped from Italy, so I had Dave ship me the parts in advance. Roller bearings are $40-50 each vs about $20 each.
Hi nice video, can you please explain in detail what is that switch on the righ for resetting the power valve? Thanks.
Hello, I also have a video on how to install the "Arming Switch". The TMs have an electronic power valve, if you stall the bike, quickly restart it, and start to ride, it can sometimes confuse the computer, so the power valve setting will be incorrect for the gear/speed. You can tell when this happens as the bike will act like its "rich", less low end power. If you rev the bike to 8k rpm, the computer will automatically reset the power valve. for most riding the switch is not needed. But, when riding steep technical trails, having the switch is useful, as you need all the low end power you can get, and reving the engine is not practical when trying to keep the bike from falling of a ledge. The "arming Switch" allows the computer to say powered on even when the bike is stalled, so it always knows what gear it is in. This means the power valve is always set correctly. please let me know if this answers your question. It is not required, it is only for convenience.
@@dtr_downtoride Thanks for the explanation, now everything is clear, now i'll take a look at that other video. Cheers!
@@ogmK4rl just let me know if you have any other questions. I'll probably also have a video on how to change the main bears and tip end too 😆 don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already 👍
Sorry to hear about that. Disappointing to say the least. I hope TM will cover those bearings for you.
Me too! the bike was just at 1 yr when this happened. hopefully they stop using sealed main bearings on the en (Fi) models... also sounds like the bearing itself partially blocks the oil port for the LH main bearing. seems like a pretty simple design change.
Any update on your engine getting fix? Were you able to get those bearings replaced under warranty?
@Shopper531 yup, got the engine back together just in time for last weekend's race. Filmed the entire rebuild, but not sure whether to post, because it would be extremely long, suppose I can break it up into sections or steps. The bikes mapping was still rich, but Collin from Powerchicken Offroad was able help me with the maps 1 hr before the race started. The bike ran great both Saturday and Sunday. Gopro turned off for Saturday's race. It filmed the entire race on Sunday, but didn't get any audio... I just finished editing the prior race video today, it should be up tomorrow. The motor rebuild and most recent race will be started soon.
@@dtr_downtoride Awesome to hear it’s fixed. You should edit a short video of your rebuild. I look forward to seeing your latest race video.
That is so disappointing. It's really difficult to have any confidence in TM with freaking crank bearing failures happening on EN models. This is like the BETA fiasco some years ago. I got the MX model so hopefully that saved me some trouble. I'm at about 28 hours with 4 races on it so far. I will absolutely be tearing down the engine to inspect and replace crank bearings when my racing season is over.
Yeah, I really hope they warranty it too. In the mean time, Dave at Get Dirty Dirt Bikes is sending me the needed parts while I wait for the warranty response. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
TBI is better than TPI. That being said I love my decked out 21 Huskie te300. Would you ever by a ktm/husq 300 after riding this TM? KBY AND TBI ARE HARD TO BEAT IN A PACKAGE!
I think it would definitely be a possibility, the new 300 XCs are TBI. I'm interested to see if they will install TBI in their other models.
Killer vid brother
Much appreciated and thank you taking the time to leave a comment!
TM Racing pimp shit
They are pretty sweet bikes, the 21 and 22 seem to be having numerous main bearing failures. Which seems to probably be related to them using a seal bearing and possibly because the main bearings are partially blocking the oil ports.
Everett Power sports is gunna start selling Beta and TM racing.
Yeah, I've heard. I really hope they stock a decent amount for spare parts for TM. Will definitely purchase from them if they do. Maybe they can sponsor me to be their TM rep lol
What sag do you have in your bike?
Good question, I had my suspension done by EVO and they recommend 100 to 105mm, while TM's manual says 90-105. after this race I realized my sag was incorrect. It was at 114mm with all my gear on, I had set it without my Backpack and waist band on. Will be putting it to between 100-105 again.
