    How would you recommend we study genki books? Learn the entire chapter, every single word, all nuances committed to memory or maybe 70% then move on? I'm never sure how much is good enough to move on. But then I worry I'll never go back for that last 30%...

    I started with listening and shadowing anime and dramas. Also just listening to Japanese podcasts without understanding what it means whenever I am walking or doing chores just to get used to cadance of the language together with learning vocabulary. I have learned Hiragana and Katakana in maybe 2 days, but Kanji is a whole other ball game 😅😅

    Can you share a more accurate timeline of your progress. For example when was that “day” that you realised you can speak fluently. How long did it take you to go through the Genki books? How much hours were you putting in a day? ie. were you working at the same time?

    Thank you for the video. As for me, I installed the Anki app and downloaded the WaniKani deck (which is also available on the website but isn't free). This really helped me as a beginner to remember kanji, as WaniKani covers the same topics as the book Remembering the Kanji, starting with radicals, i suggest everyone to at least try it once (if you're lazy as me haha).

    I feels like i am started alright then got fallen down into the duolingo route when learning n3. for context, i do have similar personality of shy perfectionist so i decided to use duolingo instead. Then few years has passed and tbh i almost learn none of the kanji's. But gotta use this method for my current Japanese learning.

    Your brain must be built different if you learned 1k kanji in 2 weeks simply because you followed radicals. Ridiculous, another youtuber just trying to nail us on his courses. Be real next time and admit it took you longer.

    Sounds like total bullshit. I studied with multiple Chinese on the same course for one year. They can pass N2 right from the beginning (4 months). But they can't pass N1 even after two years. Simple reason, N1 is not only about learning kanji, grammar and so on. You also need to have understanding in minor differences, possible multiple meanings, etc. You don't have it in two years. I don't deny your level, I just say that you spent much more time than you tell. Reason is easy, selling "something-something in two days for ¥100500". Just be honest: I spent a lot of time, I know what was useful and what was not. I can tell you, and I can teach you. Just stop bullshit.

    Thank you for this video! I started learning Japanese two years ago and am studying abroad in Japan right now. My goal is to pass N1 by summer 2026 (if not sooner), and it feels like an impossible task. I've put a lot of stress on myself, and it's become a little overwhelming to try to keep learning, but your study method of enjoying yourself so much that you end up learning a ton is so refreshing. It's really nice to know that the only way to study isn't to grind vocab and grammar flashcards late into the night. I'm so happy for you and your Japanese accomplishments!

    Thank you for this video! I'm a few months into learning Japanese and really enjoying the journey. I'm an Australian (in Australia) working for a company that employs many foreign workers, a large portion of whom are from Japan. Communication with my Japanese colleagues can be challenging since their English skills range from none to broken English. Having learned a little Japanese in primary school, I decided to build on that foundation and improve my skills. To immerse myself, I've been exploring all things Japan-trying Japanese food, reading books about Japan, learning the language through apps, and watching Japanese documentaries featuring English-speaking hosts and Japanese interviews. Every day at work, I practice new Japanese phrases with different colleagues. I always start my morning with "Ohayo" to everyone and many of them have started speaking Japanese back to me, and when I don’t understand, they kindly translate and break it down until I can repeat it correctly. It’s been such a rewarding experience! I still have a long way to go, but I’m happy with the progress I’ve made, especially in asking questions in Japanese. I read much better than I speak even though I don't understand the words I read.

    I am currently learning kanji (and other words) through anki's kaishi 1.5k Deck and I have been using "Remembering the Kanji" since three days, and I started it on your recommendation, and it's going pretty good so far. I can easily learn the kanji throught those stories, which are sometimes also funny, and I love doing it. I just want to keep lerning those kanji and reviewing the previous ones through writing the kanji and it's meaning side by side. But I put some limit to it so that one day I just don't get enough time to do the daily learning process and get completely disappointed and demotivated. What I find a bit suspicious though in your video is that you said you learned the first 1000 kanji in six months, because the speed I am easily able to go through it, I can definitely complete the whole book in a month or two.

    • @JohninJapanOFFICIAL
      @JohninJapanOFFICIAL 20 днів тому

      It's definitely possible to do it in a month or two! It took me a while to get the hang of Heisig's method, but once I did, I learned the second 1000 in about two weeks. Keep enjoying the process and try to pace yourself so you don't get burnt out.

    I`ve been learning Japanese through a one -on-one online lesson for about 4 months now and the textbook I'm using is the モナの日本語 for the reason being I'm a Hongkongese so I can read and understand Chinese. Now I've decided to get more serious about my Japanese learning and want to learn from others who can master Japanese in 1 or 2 years. Besides memorising the vocabularies from the textbook, I used Doulingo an hour a day and started to watch Japanese anime and dramas on Netflix immersing myself into it but I wonder there must be a more systematic or effective method when it comes to learning Japanese. May I ask how many hours did you devote in learning Japanese everyday? Did you come up with a timeline with target and is there any other channels (besides yours) to help learn Japanese faster? Thanks and good day!

    I started learning japanese four days ago, I learned hiragana, some katakana and about 30 kanji (not all the readings, but some of them) and it's really fun. The thing I'm having the most trouble with is learning new vocabulary, I hate using Anki because I get too distracted and feel like a zombie mindlessly tapping on the screen. I've learned roughly 15 new vocabs in these four days, now I'm watching a bunch of videos about japanese grammar and Kanji, isolating the words that I don't know and trying to form new sentences, but I still can't comprehend about 80/90% of a "normal" conversation and it's kinda frustrating cause I already knew about 100 words because of anime and "Japanenglish" UA-cam.

    I did that with English. Even though Japanese is way harder, when you like the culture and the language, find it fascinatingly beautiful and in a way easier to pick the words since they have a small set of vowels, yet use them a lot, between moras. Japanese sounds easier to pick (listen) than many other languages we deem easier than Japanese, like Russian, German and Hungarian (the hardest language in Europe).
