Steelpan Duo - Bill and Stephanie live at the Arizona State Fair 2024
Bill Harris and Stephanie Gudeman perform as a Steelpan drum duo live at the Arizona State Fair. ‘Fernando’ was written by Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Anderson and Stikkan originally recorded by ABBA, ‘Tico Tico no Fuba’ a Brazilian Portuguese piece written by Zequinha de Abreu in 1917, and Solamente Una Vez ( You Belong in my Heart ) written by Mexican songwriter Agustin Lara originally performed in 1941. We put our on spin on it with backing tracks recorded by Mark Larson and Richard Sellers (drums), Adrian , Frank Gonzales and Cecil McBee Jr (Bass), English horn and oboe Stephanie Gudeman, last but not least Bill Harris of Salsa Steel on all other Keyboards and sound effects.
Thank you Arizona State Fair for the opportunity to perform these great songs! You guys are the best! Not even the 113 degree temperature could stop us or our audiences from having fun! We also want to give a big shout out to our sound man Simon and our band who recorded the tracks we played to. They were all conscientious, professional and did a stellar job of helping bring out our best!

Foxhunter's Jig
Переглядів 201Рік тому
The Foxhunter's Jig is a slip jig, and popular in County Donegal as well as being popular throughout Ireland. AKA "The Irish Fox Hunt" this was published by piper O'Farrell in the Pocket Companion for the Irish or Union Pipes (c. 1806). Many of these jigs were played for decades or centuries before publication, but this is the earliest mention I could find on in. The words came along later, and...

The legend of the Pied Piper is one that has survived decades, originating as Medieval folklore, it inspired the Grimm brothers verse Der Rattenfanger and one of Robert Brownings famous poems, The Pied Piper of Hamelin. The song we sing here was based on the Medieval legend of the Pied Piper and written by contemporary of Fairport Convention and Nick Drake, Allan Taylor of Brighton England. It ...

An older popular British Isles tune first published around 1800 but likely older, performed here by Renaissance Minstrels of Goode Company, Abby Green Soprano and Irish Bouzouki, Bill Harris marimba, Bobby Triviso Tabour drum, and music director Stephanie Gudeman on alto vocals. We had too much fun playing this old tune, as we often do! We hope this makes you smile.

This song is written by Stephanie Gudeman and Bill Harris for our good friends at the New Mexico State Fair! I started writing the song while hiking in the mountains of New Mexico, and Bill of course wrote the good part, the hook. We are playing live to tracks that Bill put together to add some sparkle and keep us in line! That is a little battery operated JBL boom box cranking out those parts....

Abby Green Soprano, Bill Harris Tenor, and Stephanie Gudeman Alto sing the the Christmas song 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' backwards acapella. This version of the words came from the 1900 rendition. Generally this is accepted as an early song first written down in the late 1600, early 1700's although it could have much earlier origins. It is based on Christian theology marks the span between ...

Goode Company performs this great tune at the Rat Catcher stage during the 48th Las Cruces Renaissance Festival. Abby Green vocals and Irish bouzouki, Bill Harris vocal and marimba, Stephanie Gudeman Irish whistle and vocal.
Hunt The Rat

Goode Company takes the Traditional song Hunt the Wren, uses a shorter version of the piece and exchanges the subject Wren for a Rat, making it completely silly and fun. We do this song in honor of Richard the Rat Catcher of the Las Cruces Renaissance Festival. The original song is most likely from the Isle of Man in Europe and probably originated sometime in the late 1700's. Abby Green vocal a...

SO .. After posting this I realized two things. First, you can not edit what you already put up once it is posted without specific editing programs. Secondly, I gave information on two of the three songs .. although Tico Tico is right and actually part of this video. The first song is actually Jump in the Line by the incomparable Lord Kitchener from Trinidad (where the Steelpan was born as well) and first released in 1952. Second is Tico Tico as I have said above, the last is Sabor a Mi’ written in 1959 by Alvaro Carrillo. I blame the heat for my errors and am sticking to it.

Nice work, Stephanie! I just picked up a cor anglais about one month ago. How enjoyable it is to play! Oboe is my first love, but how beautiful and easy, in many ways, is English Horn for expressiveness? I'm hoping to spend many more hours behind the reed of this instrument!
