why does wet cardboard not break down well or quickly, any advice or don't use it?
Cardboard actually works really well! But cardboard is high in Carbon, so it needs a Nitrogen source (eg. plants) to help break it down. The cardboard also needs to be shredded or cut into small pieces. Make sure there is no glossy prints or parcel tape as that won’t break down. You can also leave the cardboard outside for 24 hours to absorb some moisture before you put it in the compost pile - the moisture actually helps :)
