I lost the ability to speak tagalog growing up in Canada, but I could always understand it. When I turned 18, I went back to Philippines and decided I would try to only speak tagalog. It was surprisingly easy to learn. I was already fluent after like 2 months. It turns out if you can already understand the language, it's actually really easy to learn how to speak it. I find most people just feel embarrassed to try so they never bother.

My great grandmother (prababcia) spoke Polish and could write it ect... And she never taught my grandmother and my great aunts and so my dad doesn't speak it or understand and so some of my family only know a few words and so I want to learn Polish Because being a monolingual American that doesn't speak anybother language really besides English can suck sometimes.

Im not Filipino but I might consider learning the language cause i like philipina women I think... At least some of the ones I met are interesting to say the least

I really want to learn Tagalog for my friend. He knows English but he’s more comfortable speaking Tagalog and every time he wants to tell me something that really concerns him or something that he is passionate about I feel like he can’t tell me everything because he doesn’t know how to communicate it to me. Of course I want him to become better at English but I also don’t want him to feel pressured and so I want to learn Tagalog so that when he is struggling to tell me something to the point where he can no longer say whatever he wants to say I want him to switch to Tagalog if he likes.

i recently went to the philippines for the first time in a while since i couldn’t go last time because of covid, and i feel like i’ve learn a lot there. my parents didn’t really encourage me to speak tagalog and we can’t go to the philippines often since it’s expensive, so unfortunately the next time i’ll be going i’ll nearly be an adult! i was way too scared too speak tagalog when i went since it’s not the best even though though i could say a few phrases if i wanted to, but i really want to be be fluent next time i go because i want to be able to talk with my relatives and cousins connect with them even if there is a slight language barrier. thank you for all the tips! <3

Ako nga nasa Pilipinas na, hirap pa rin sa Tagalog. 😅 Filipinos code switch a lot because Filipino grammar is very difficult and proper Filipino is not used in conversations (like the filipinopod), pero yun yung tinuturo sa school. My kids are in elementary right now and they can't speak Filipino. Primarily because the media that they consume and their peers speak in English. Sa bahay naman, Bisaya yung lola nila, so yung Tagalog nya iba din ang pronounciation and grammar 😅

Hey, this video really inspired and motivated me alot with trying to learn tagalog. I am full-blooded filipino but for some reason I have never actually picked up the language as a kid. I always promised myself that I will start speaking tagalog today but today turned into tomorrow and then tomorrow slowly becomes to never. Im at the age where I cant always rely on my relatives to speak for me and I feel extremely socially lonely because of my lack of tagalog speaking skills, so thank you for making me realize im not alone and that I can do it. ❤❤❤

is this helpful for learning deep tagalog and not just learning how to converse with people in tagalog? Im only learning the language because of school, in every subject my grades are line of 9 but for Filipino my grades are line of 8 and it frustrates me so much because I can easily be an high honor student but Ive only been an honor student because of Filipino and the words I see on the tests and exams dont even feel like real words when I read them

My 4 year old son is also name Ethan and I am slowly teaching him Tagalog. My husband moved to US when he was 8 and the his teacher told my MIL to only speak English or he won’t move up. So now he’s 40 years old and been trying to learn since. It’s just so hard for me to switched back and forth 😅😢 now I really have to just speak Tagalog to my son.

One of the most underrated and unpopular opinions, being singled out, dismissive against/disregarded by those who were born full Filipino just because you were born as a halfie/mixed ethnicity with one filipino parent and the other being a Caucasian parent when you yourself are trying to connect with other filipinos but you're only seen as an outcast/outsider/anomaly. NOBODY speaks regarding this when it comes to "asian hate".

im 13 years old (full filipino) and im very, very bad at tagalog. because of quarantine, i spent my time inside in my bedroom watching youtube and other social media apps. i mostly- or actually not mostly; all the content I watched were english, and if you add the fact that im not in a household where people speak tagalog.. it's quite no surprise i suck hard at it. even before covid, i still did not know how to understand tagalog since my family never taught me so and spoke in a different filipino language. so it was all just a mess for me and slowed me down on my curricular activities. on the subjects that were in english such as english (duh?), math, and science i got high grades (92-97) whereas the filipino subjects i mostly got average scores (90-92) which my parents did not like.. it made me really frustrated everytime i got my report card and saw that my grades in filipino subjects were lower than the others, as usual. so i decided to finally get my lazy ass up and learn it once again. pro tip: use facebook and follow pages. it can be anything, poetry pages, meme pages, ect ect it just has to be tagalog. it can help you adjust and learn how to speak in a more casual, everyday way as supposed to speaking like you're jose rizal infront of your classmates in school. plus, it can help you learn slang aswell (wink wonk) sorry for the massive yappuccino here i know noone gafs IM JUST A GIRL IN THE WORLD

You know what's sad? I've been in the Philippines, my WHOLE. LIFE.. I'm a Filipino, but somehow, up until now i cant speak a single thing related to tagalog. (And i feel so ashamed) It was probably because i was surrounded by many things that weren't related to my culture at all, and because of that, I was labeled as the englishera on my class. People won't take me seriously, and lessons (ESPECIALLY filipino) are more harder than before... I want to learn this language so that i wont feel different.
