New hardanger fiddle being played for the first time

My son is testing out a new hardanger fiddle, Glede, for the first time. I typically will ask him to play a few tunes on new fiddles before they are shipped off to their new owners so I can make any final adjustments. Both fiddles played through well.

Loved seeing your work. My interest in luthiery is the flamenco guitar, but I love seeing the disciplines of luthiers of the violin family or other forms like the lute family. The neck joint was of interest to me. It's probably a good neck joint to use as one learns the art, but I don't really love them on guitars, as guitars are not built to be dismantled as we do with a violin. The violin must be one of the most perfect instruments. I also think of the sitar as a perfect instrument. Thanks for the work put into the video as you brought this instrument back to life.

Never saw a fiddle with 8 strings, what do the underside strings play into the sound of the violin ? do they just vibrate ?

It would be great if the camera was in front of you, like in your 12 o´clock and not in your 8 - most of your inlay work was hidden behind your hand

Now I'm going to have to do a little digging to find out more about "Hardinger" fiddles. I have never heard that term or name until now. I'm assuming that the underbridge strings are just to add color and fullness to the sound of the main strings. Really cool!

WOW! What a scar, did you ride motorcycles too? What an amazing art. I play a Les Paul and a Martin, I didn’t say I play well. My wife gave me her first pay check back in the mid 70’s, I knew she was a keeper. Still together in retirement. I sure cherish that guitar, looks like new and has that broken in sound. Who do you think will inherit Willy Nelson’s Trigger? She’s my favorite guitar tonally.

Great ASMR video! Is there no sound post to this violin? I didn't see him put one in. And why are there 8 tuning pegs?

That left forearm looks like a nasty break. I didn't know violins had more than 4 strings. Those clamps look really useful I'm going to get some of those for myself. Really nice handy work. Looks like fun.

Achei incrível este violino,, ele é também uma obra de arte... Diferente dos violinos que tenho visto... Eu não notei no vídeo a parte onde e feira a restauração do verniz no corpo do violino... Manteve o original?

I wonder how you was sure the neck was aligned with the body when you glued it to the back, as it was glued without any jig or frame, and without real verification (at least not shown)

This is great, but the video would be so much better if, for a lot of the shots, instead of putting the camera behind your elbow, you could put it above, or at the back wall. As it is, a lot of what you’re doing is hidden from view by your arms and hands.

Hard to see the other 4 strings and it would be nice to see how they are played.. wonder why for the full split of the topplate itself why not use perm wood glue. If there is humidity the whole thing will fall apart.

You know that cleats do absolutely nothing to strengthen the glue joint. I will use cleats to align plates. When a joint opens up a thin little cleat does not stop it.
