New hardanger fiddle being played for the first time

My son is testing out a new hardanger fiddle, Glede, for the first time. I typically will ask him to play a few tunes on new fiddles before they are shipped off to their new owners so I can make any final adjustments. Both fiddles played through well.

My son is testing out a new fiddle, Mary, for the first time. I usually ask him to play them through a few times before I ship them off to their new owners. This will give me a chance to make any necessary adjustments.

A customer recently brought an old fiddle into the shop that belonged to her great grandfather. The fiddle was in poor shape and hadn't been playable in many decades. There was even a mouse living in the fiddle for a period of time. This video shows the process of repairing and brining the old fiddle back to life.

A viola da gamba, isn´t it?
Most satisfying to watch craftsmanship!
Loved seeing your work. My interest in luthiery is the flamenco guitar, but I love seeing the disciplines of luthiers of the violin family or other forms like the lute family. The neck joint was of interest to me. It's probably a good neck joint to use as one learns the art, but I don't really love them on guitars, as guitars are not built to be dismantled as we do with a violin. The violin must be one of the most perfect instruments. I also think of the sitar as a perfect instrument. Thanks for the work put into the video as you brought this instrument back to life.
Never saw a fiddle with 8 strings, what do the underside strings play into the sound of the violin ? do they just vibrate ?
Woooowwwww Weltklasse!!! Saubere Arbeit, echt starke Leistung!!!💪💪💪👍👍👍 Herzliche Grüße aus Deutschland
It would be great if the camera was in front of you, like in your 12 o´clock and not in your 8 - most of your inlay work was hidden behind your hand
😄 I like the sped up sanding
Ole boy loved on at fiddle like it were his very own. Good to see a craftsman at cares bout his trade. Thanks for sharing pappy.
Magnificent! I love seeing old instruments in disrepair brought back to life.
Now I'm going to have to do a little digging to find out more about "Hardinger" fiddles. I have never heard that term or name until now. I'm assuming that the underbridge strings are just to add color and fullness to the sound of the main strings. Really cool!
Excellent, a master at work.
Very well done! I loved it!
WOW! What a scar, did you ride motorcycles too? What an amazing art. I play a Les Paul and a Martin, I didn’t say I play well. My wife gave me her first pay check back in the mid 70’s, I knew she was a keeper. Still together in retirement. I sure cherish that guitar, looks like new and has that broken in sound. Who do you think will inherit Willy Nelson’s Trigger? She’s my favorite guitar tonally.
Very nice job. Thanks for shearing.
Great ASMR video! Is there no sound post to this violin? I didn't see him put one in. And why are there 8 tuning pegs?
Thank you for sharing what type of glue and staining compound you are using please?
Craftsmanship is appreciated more than I can say! It's beautiful!
Your work is more than playing a fiddle...salute
Beautiful work!! What happened to your left forearm???
That left forearm looks like a nasty break. I didn't know violins had more than 4 strings. Those clamps look really useful I'm going to get some of those for myself. Really nice handy work. Looks like fun.
Very beautiful job
Wow another instrument saved, did you sign the interior?
It is not the same fiddle in the old picture. The peg layout is not the same. You may have gotten duped.
Beautiful job!❤
8:26 Looks like you need to sharpen ALL your chisels. Makes life so much easier. :8) 26:53 Where are the linings!
8 sting hollow neck? wow!

The thumbnail is a bit click baity
Qual é a cola que vocês usam? Podem dizer??
Achei incrível este violino,, ele é também uma obra de arte... Diferente dos violinos que tenho visto... Eu não notei no vídeo a parte onde e feira a restauração do verniz no corpo do violino... Manteve o original?
I wonder how you was sure the neck was aligned with the body when you glued it to the back, as it was glued without any jig or frame, and without real verification (at least not shown)
Thank you so much for sharing your time with me I have learned so much that I could have learned no other way and I will miss you loving passionate work. The Pleiadian Golden Harbinger Compass
This guy has the patience of a saint
This is great, but the video would be so much better if, for a lot of the shots, instead of putting the camera behind your elbow, you could put it above, or at the back wall. As it is, a lot of what you’re doing is hidden from view by your arms and hands.
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته كل عام وانتم بخير انت رائع ومتميز. شكرا جزيلا
Bad posission camera
Hard to see the other 4 strings and it would be nice to see how they are played.. wonder why for the full split of the topplate itself why not use perm wood glue. If there is humidity the whole thing will fall apart.
as a Celtic , Old time fiddler since before UA-cam existed...hardanger is just splendid.
He probably came back as a mouse to look over his masterpiece again :o) . Great job , wow , thanks you !
is a peg lubricant applied to the tuners to aid in tuning and hold the tuner ( i use a crayon lubricant on my fiddle pegs)?
amazing, thanks again😊
thanks lot. its really helps❤
where was the end resulting sound we all were waiting for ?
bro calls it the fiddle LMAOOO
Great sharing.new friend watching here
You know that cleats do absolutely nothing to strengthen the glue joint. I will use cleats to align plates. When a joint opens up a thin little cleat does not stop it.
THROW THAT VIOLIN
Bravo to the master. He picked up an instrument from the ruins. I'm curious to know if the sound has deteriorated. Привет из России!
👍👍👍!
