The recording was made on March 6, 2024 at the newly completed Foley Studio in Chofu, Tokyo. Several microphone preamps owned by the studio were tested. SENNHEISER MKH 416 and MKH 418 were used for the Foley recordings. All files are 24bit 48kHz and no noise reduction, filters, compressors, or limiters were used.

This recording was made on February 28, 2024 at the newly completed Foley Studio in Chofu, Tokyo. A test to create the sound of footsteps walking on snow. A large amount of salt and potato starch was used for the Foley recording. Microphones used were SENNHEISER MKH 8050, MKH 8040, and MKH 30.     8020 is all around better for these type of recording, its omnidirectional. you hear a more not loud but fuller and pristine background on everything, especially the highway noise or running water where as the 8040 is more muffled but loud. but 8040 isn't omnidirectional so it isn't recording the full surrounding, so 8020 is more fitting for this type of experiment. the nt4 left something to be desired compared to the 8020, you can hear a higher frequency of the running traffic compared to the 8040, which is worse than the 8020. and the last mic, the sanken cms-50 is just the nt4 but lower frequency tones, left a lot to be desired. 8020 is cheaper than the sanken cms-50, what a steal.

    which do you like more? and what do you think they are good at individually? 8020 for ambience and 8040 for sound recording?
