Wine Barrel Disassembly
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
How to disassemble a wine barrel to make wine barrel furniture. Understanding how to take a wine barrel apart requires knowing how it is put together. This video will show you how barrels are constructed and how to easily take one apart. Topic: Wine barrel disassembly Created by: Huibert Mees
This video is actually about calibration and not motor tuning.
Awesome build. Where can I find the flexible ruler you use. I like how it conforms to the curvature of the wine staves.
These videos are really well done Hubert. I just created my first wine barrel Adirondack chair for my sons birthday. I am contemplating putting a brace in the back, between the back of the leg and the armrest to give a bit more stability for larger people. Not sure it is necessary. Any comments good or bad on this andded strut are welcome.
I like the design. Is your water cooled Spindle and VFD working out well? I've burned out two makita palm routers, a 3hp porter cable over heats and is quite loud. My original PC crashed and have had to perform the necessary breakout board upgrad. I purchased the same one. Great video
Great video, thank you so much for your knowledge and help.
So how is your drawing supposed to help people that don’t have it. Why not give measurements up the board. Not from the ground??
Man you are awesome
Amazing Huibert!
thanks for making this vid it sure cuts to the chase makes it simple XYA is what i use also but i also use a z axis can you use this method for a ball screw movment as well? thank very much Bill from Nevada
Use this on my milling for start
I'm glad to see a really informative video. I'm currently learning woodworking in Korea, and this video gave me new inspiration. Thank you.
This is perfect….. I have some whiskey barrel staves and now I have a future project………. Thank you
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Precise and easy and to follow. I completed my side table this morning.
thanks for this sir please you can help mach3 setting i need some help
Well, I'm no expert but I can try. What's the problem?
Great video...especially at the beginning when you described what type of barrel head should be used. One question--I am just getting into CNCing and have Vectric software... could this have been done in Vectric, Adobe Illustrator (I have licenses for both of these), or some other program? Also, curious what type of screws you used to hold the bands...regular big box store, or did you find a source of cool, old-school screws? Thanks.
I am not familiar with the details of either Vectric or Illustrator but I suspect any graphic package could be used to generate the design. You will need something like Fusion 360 or V-Carve or Carveco to turn the graphics into G-Code however.
I need to make a sign like this for a friend. Thanks for the video! I haven't found anything else explaining the process.
Ok, so that last one with the side staves is exactly what I'm wanting to make. I want to cut the logo through the barrel top and use colored plexiglass with LEDs inside to light up the logo. And the whole sign would be 2-sided, with 2 of the parts like the one you showed at the end hinged together so the wiring will be secured inside and it can be hung on an angle iron bracket from above. Where would be a good source for a barrel? The ones I'm finding are old and weathered with rusted rings.
Some wineries will sell their old barrels but I found the bets source to be Craigslist. If you are located in California then you can also try www.winebusiness.com/classifieds/
Clear, concise, perfect. Thank you for the demo and possible pitfalls. I'm planning on purchasing some used barrels from nearby wine country but need to disassemble them to bring them home!
Follow up: I ended up borrowing my sister's car so I could take my time disassembling the barrel at home. It took longer than I expected (approx. 1 hr), but definitely doable. I recommend using a pry bar, such as the Wonder Bar. Made the job go much faster.
I guess I have not choice but to go tackle the barrel in my garage, now!
I like the video and the clock!
I really want toknow how you make this chair and I am interested in what you have to say. The music prevents me to watch this video unmuted. The mudic is to loud in comparison to the talking, so if the volume is set so the music is tolerable, I can not hear what you have to say. Could you please reupload this video series without the music? I think these series will do a lot better on youtube.
Just what I needed
Nice work.
Whats an alternate method to get the flat surface on the legs for those without a plannar , thank you
Well done, subscribed and bell! Hope to see more content from you, you have a natural talent to explain and entertain at the same time, keep it flowing!
Welcome Back Huibert. Looks like a great project, a bit beyond my skills to date. I've watched your other videos repeatedly and am so excited to build my own versions of your creations.
professional and good
Hi, can you share your hardware materials list? I have the barrels already I just want to make sure I buy the same bolts, screws, etc you used. Thank you!
The bolts are all 5/16" carriage bolts varying in length from 1 1/4" to 2 1/2" depending on the thickness of the staves being connected. The nuts are 5/16" low profile nylon insert lock nuts that I get at Fastenal. The screws are PowerPro Exterior torx drive screws (from Lowe's) varying in length from 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" again, depending on the thickness of the staves being connected. Any good exterior grade deck screw will work just as well, though. The only other hardware are the brackets which, as you see in the video, I make from the barrel hoops. Good luck building your own. They are super comfortable when finished.
Love this build. Thank you!
Absolutely love your videos! Thank you Huibert!
Fun to watch it all fall apart when the final band was removed. Thanks for the video
Excellent Job
I have watched all 3 videos and like your approach and of course the final product. I really appreciate that you shared this build and everything that goes into making something at a professional level. I was curious if you have any feedback on how the finish held up after a season outside, and if it was under cover etc. Thanks again.
The finish has held up fairly well, but I would always prefer something better. No finish will really stand the test of time so keeping the chairs covered as much as possible, especially in the rain, is always a good idea.
In the step where you are drilling the second hole on the first armrest, did you mean to drill a hole at "29-7/8? I'm hearing you say "21-7/8.
Hi Jonathan. Yes, the dimension should be 29 7/8". Thank you for pointing that out.
Is one barrel usually enough to make an Adirondack chair?
Do you have blueprint of the chair?
Inocencio, Unfortunately I don't. I just used measurements that felt about right to me.
Just found your channel. You’re doing a fantastic job! We really enjoy your content.
Thank you Denver. I appreciate the feedback.
Hello I enjoyed your video. I watched the end table build as well, would enjoy more wine barrel videos there is not many videos out there. Thanks Mike
As an engineer and a woodworker, very interesting. I have staves coming for a couple of woodworking ideas I'm going to build.
Thank you very much for your in depth explanation on making your clock. Thank you as well for sharing your suppliers! One question I notice in the background you have a metal cutting Throatless Shear is that what you use to cut the bands that go around the wine barrel. Thank you
Yes it is. I got it from Eastwood. www.eastwood.com/8-in-bench-shear.html
great ideas i am making chairs plan on making all you come up with
I actually have used a simple string with markings - that works very well, but I love your jig! I must say I will be making one. Brilliant.
Hello Hubert, i have really enjoyed your videos. such simplicity and quality. I'll be watching them repeatedly and look forward to any additional videos you add.
What an exquisite chair. your process was so clean and simple. I really appreciated your presentation and look forward to trying to build a set for my home. Thank you so much!
Thanks for putting your designs on here Huibert. I have made 2 of the chairs and the table; they are rock solid and much admired by the family. On the second chair I pushed the backrest back by an inch so that it feels slightly less upright.
Love the video keep up the great work and look forward to upcoming videos. Thanks!!!’n
I’m interested in the tool you used to cut the barrel band with. Can you tell me what it is called and where I might find one? Thank you!
Kris, I use a metal shear from Eastwood Company. Here is a link: www.eastwood.com/8-in-bench-shear.html. Good luck with your projects!
@@huibertmees3891 thanks so much!

Wow excellent video. Can't wait to watch part 2 and 3
Great videos? You said you had a pattern to lay out the first assembly steps. Is that pattern available? Thanks
DO NO LAY FLAT! :)
